About this space
Ulysses Suites has just been completed inside the historic J. G. Schmohl building in the heart of downtown Galena, located at 213 to 217 S. Main Street. The location is walking distance to all the best restaurants and shops. We have 7 suites and a beautiful lobby that are modern and luxurious, with lots of historical character and texture as a nod to its previous existence as the Grant Hotel from 1895 to 1933. Suite 203 is almost 1400 square feet and is located on the 2nd floor.
The space
The J. G. Schmohl building was built around 1850. From 1895 to 1932, Mr. Schmohl ran the Grant Hotel in this building. We have loving renovated this well-deserved building with a nod to the Grant Hotel from the turn of the century. We have 3 two bedroom/2 bath suites, 2 one bedroom/1 bath suites and 2 studios. Having a special family/friend gathering? You can rent the entire 7 suites that will accommodate 21 people. Ulysses Suites main entrance is at 214 S. Bench Street and is also accessible between 213 and 215 S. Main Street. Ulysses Suites has been awarded the Galena Excellence in Historic Preservation Designation in 2020. Because of Covid-19, we are taking the CDC & WHO guidelines very seriously & are constantly evolving our best practices for how to open & operate safely. Based off the guidelines from our national & local health leaders we have reviewed our cleaning standards & operating policies.

Everything was perfect! Location was right where we wanted to be smack dab in the main drag of the beautiful uptown Galena. Everything with the stay was wonderful and just as pictures and description stated. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!!

This was possibly the nicest VRBO I have ever stayed at. The apartment itself was immaculately clean and everything was in pristine condition. We were blow away by all the small details that show this property owner is thinking how to make the best stay possible for her guests. There were so many amenities, like locally sourced hand soaps and toiletries, fully stocked kitchen with anything you would need to cook a delicious meal, complimentary bath salts for the soaker tub. I could go on and on. Joan was also very responsive to any questions I had, which was very much appreciated. The Ulysses Suites were exactly what we were looking for in a weekend get away to Galena. If you are looking for something close to downtown with all splendor of a trendy, luxury apartment, you really must book this space!

Absolutely perfect!

This place is absolutely perfect! Stayed in suite 203. The place is staged like a model apartment fully equipped with the most quality products and decor. This remodel is stunning and location could NOT be any better…center of Main Street strip. Most importantly (for me at least) this space was immaculate! Super clean and comfortable! We will be back soon!
