About this property
The Maine Idea - Close to the village, 4 bedroom, 2 bath, A/C, 45 min to Acadia
This lovely cape sits just outside of the village of Blue Hill and is comfortable for up to eight guests. With four bedrooms (king on the main level, queen, double, and two twins on the second floor) and two full baths (downstairs with shower, upstairs with shower and tub), the house is cozy and roomy at the same time. A dedicated workspace on the porch offers privacy. Air conditioning. This is a great home base for day trips exploring the Blue Hill peninsula and surrounding towns, Deer Isle/Stonington, Bucksport, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. A fenced-in area is convenient for dogs and children (at guests' discretion). Rents Friday to Friday from May through October. Dogs are welcomed but we prefer non-shedding.
Review from the first guests who stayed June 2024:
Great House Great Location
Our family spent a great week at Maine Idea. The pictures accurately display the property. The house was clean, well decorated and had everything a group could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Blue Hill is a great centrally located home base for day trips to many of Maine’s best locations. The “Mail Boat” from Stonington to Isle Au Haut” is a great way to spend a day and there are a number of beautiful hiking trials in the area.

Why they chose this property
As described by the Blue Hill Chamber of Commerce: The Blue Hill Peninsula encompasses the towns of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, Sedgwick, and Surry and serves as the gateway to Little Deer Isle, Deer Isle, and Stonington. Blue Hill is the largest town and is the region’s service center. The landscape here is marked by sweeping views of the blueberry barrens and the sea. Tucked in among the ridges, valleys, and jagged coastline, you’ll find adventure of all kinds, from a day on the water and an evening of live music to a solitary morning walk and an afternoon of gallery tours and shopping.
You’ll find our communities to be diverse, independent yet interconnected. In all of these places, you may strike up a conversation with a lobsterman, boatbuilder, or sailor who knows these waters like the back of their hand. In all of these places, you will find locally sourced food and highly skilled craftspeople and artists. In all of these places, you will find evidence of the resourcefulness, dry wit, and creativity that has defined our region’s culture for centuries.
This region was settled in the mid-1700s, and its early economy centered around shipbuilding and quarrying. Lumbering, lobstering, fishing, and farming have played an important role in our economy and culture since the earliest days. By the late 1800’s the region had become a summer destination. Today, many of these industries coexist with a thriving art, music, and food scene to create this unique place called The Blue Hill Peninsula.
