This delightful 1-bedroom cottage is perfect for your escape to the Little Deschutes River near La Pine. Nestled in a tranquil setting, this fantastic property offers a cozy retreat for guests. The bedroom up stairs features a comfortable queen bed, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathroom down stairs is equipped with a shower and a hair dryer for your convenience. In the additional living room space, you'll find a sofa bed for extra sleeping arrangements, games, smart Tv, and wood stove. With amenities like heating, AC, a washer and dryer, and WiFi, you'll have everything you need for a delightful stay. The river frontage offers beautiful views and river access to the popular Little Deschutes River for float, kayaking, wildlife viewing and fishing. This spring will have a good runoff and stimulate the germination of 20 to 30 native flowering plant species on the property. The spring also invites two to three does and their fawns, beaver, porcupine, squirrels, and many species of waterfowls and song birds to enjoy the trees, river and grass just outside the windows of the living room! The lack of city lights allow for incredible views of the milky way at night. We think our place will help you experience everything out in the country has to offer.

Unfortunately, we were not able to come over and stay at Russell's house but he was gracious enough to understand our last minute family emergency. We hope to come and stay at a later time as his home is inviting and at a perfect location right across the river from our friends.
It was a nice quiet getaway from the city life for my husband and I. Definitely bring bug spray due to all the mosquitoes but the setting is beautiful.
The size of the place was great, it just needed some refreshing. Russell the owner was very kind, listened to our suggestions and has already begun to make changes. He was also there on the property, which was great. The setting is absolutely breathtaking, with the Little Deschutes flowing through the property. We took lots of photos!
I really enjoyed staying here. It isnt as fancy as many places, but we found the bed comfortable and the surrounds serene and dog friendly. Yes there are some water pressure issues, but they didn't bother me. I'll choose this place every time i come to visit my daughter if its available.
What an awesome little house! We were only there for one night, and wish we'd had more time. Our host Russell was lovely as well. The area is rural but easy to reach, and the surrounding land (and creek!) were great.
Russell’s cottage was super cozy and has a great remote feeling with hardly a neighbor in sight, while only being a short drive to countless outdoor activities and the restaurants, bars and shopping at Sun River and Bend. The cottage was adequately stocked for cooking and WiFi was fast for streaming movies and had no issues the one day I had to do some remote work. Bedding was clean and very comfortable. Also we had no issues with the water as other guests mentioned. Russell was very communicative throughout my stay. He even had the wood burning stove fired up so when we arrived the place was warm and toasty. Can’t wait to go back in the summer months to enjoy more hiking and biking.
Russell was so friendly and helpful. The home is just as described and located right on the Deschutes River. The home had everything my family and I needed for our stay in La Pine.
Very cute little place. It was clean and cozy. The water pressure issue really wasn’t that bad and the only downside at all, if you feel it’s a downside is the bathroom and bedroom are on separate floors. But, it had everything we needed, was right on the river - so the view was fantastic and the host who has a tiny home on the property (treehouse, really) was friendly and communicative when needed, otherwise kept to themself. Will definitely come again if/when in the area.

Host was very nice. Very nice setting near River. Watched wildlife on property. Told to take 5 minute showers very hard to do when water pressure is not good. Wasn’t as clean as we like but it was adequate.

Very nice and cozy place to stay! The property was well kept, quiet and a fairly private location along the Little Deschutes River just a few minutes away from La Pine and La Pine State Park. The house is stocked with all the necessities for a comfortable stay including kayaks for an additional fee you can use along the river. Ran into the owner who was super friendly and pleasant to talk to. Found my place to stay again next summer...you won't be disappointed.

Pass on this
The listing should have explained the water issues at this house. No pressure, can’t shower for more than 5 minutes, the list goes on. The dishwasher is broken. The bathroom and bedroom are on separate floors. There are no pots or pans for cooking and no kitchen towels. I could go on, but you get the point.

Sorry I did not see your review till now. You should read up on property before you stay and make false claims in reviews. The water problem is mentioned on the Vrbo site. There is a full kitchen. To bad you did not make the effort to look in the stove drawer or at the pictures on this web site. Yes the bedroom is on the upper floor. Again you did into look at the pictures, and if that was a problem for you could have slept on the sofa down stairs.
Russell was very accommodating. We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the River House

About the host
Hosted by Russell Johnson
I grew up in the Central Oregon area and it continues to draw me back here after several years overseas. I love to have others come to enjoy this area as much as I do and thought that by hosting our property on the river, people may experience that.
Why they chose this property
I enjoy the outdoors. Central Oregon is often called "Sunny Central Oregon" and there is a reason for that, the sun shines most of the late spring, summer and early fall. This little property is a gem of having it all....as I see it; I can get wet in the river, kayak, fish, listen to the insects, birds, the frogs, and yes even the deer and other mammals; I can just stare at the sky at night in be overwhelmed by the incredible number of stars and once in a while falling stars as I called them growing up. I study fisheries and biology in college and it really enhanced my enjoyment of even the little things in nature that can be found all over this property included many species of flowering plant birds, insects, mammals, fish, amphibians, and reptiles.
What makes this property unique
River access and close proximately to many outdoor adventure and activities are the most significant assets to the property. The Little Deschutes River has approximately 20 miles floatable river before it joins the Deschutes River in Sunriver. The Deschutes River is also very popular for floating and access is within 10 miles of the property. Winter sports including Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and just plain-o plunking around in the snow are within 5 to 30 miles. We get up two feet of snow accumulate at one point or other every winter on the property making for awesome views and fun cross country skiing just off out the door to the house. Very few people actually live closer than this property to Newberry Crater and it's two lakes and hundreds of cider cones and, many lave caves with, hiking and biking trails, boating a fishing, lave field expiration, caving, camping, interpretive kiosks, etc. World famous Crater Lake is jast a 90 minute drive south. The high Cascade lakes mountains and trails are within a day’s adventures as well as trips to the high desert features of Fort Rock, Fossil Lake, Lost Forest and the Crack in the ground. Excellent Dinning may be found in nearby Sunriver, La Pine, and Bend.
