This cabin is fantastic!! Beautiful views, beautiful kitchen and a beautiful setting make this cabin a real gem. In addition, the host is extremely responsive and very committed to ensuring that guests have a wonderful stay.

Our family of 5 enjoyed every aspect of this beautifully maintained and well stocked cabin. It was peaceful and comfortable. We were so relaxed that we found ourselves staying in and around the cabin almost the majority of our 8 night stay with little need to go anywhere else. We did visit a few of our favorite outdoor spots and eateries but overall our favorite place was by the fire pit together roasting marshmallows, chatting and playing games! This is a perfect place for adventure but also for quiet family time! We hope to return in Autumn to enjoy the colorful leaves! We all loved it!

From the moment we arrived the cabin was warm, welcoming, and made you feel at home. Beautiful and peaceful setting. Space to relax and enjoy both indoors and outside. Didn’t get to hike as much as we hoped due to rainy weather but still managed to get out and explore nearby attractions. Host was easy to work with and ensured our visit was a good experience. Cabin was clean, comfy, and would stay there again.

I found the Rusty Lantern is a beautiful home in the mountains. The rear porch is large with an awesome view. The large kitchen makes preparing meals simple. There is a large table in the kitchen and a huge picnic table on the back porch. The house and porches were perfectly clean, not a spider web in sight. If you want quiet, and I mean really quiet, the Rusty Lantern is for you.

Weekend getaway

Absolutely amazing property. Just a perfect cabin and view, everything we could have asked for. One of the best stays we have ever had, will definitely be returning to explore more of the area.

Beautiful location for a beautiful cabin to truly enjoy nature and its beauty. The kitchen was stocked well that we could make a wonderful breakfast before leaving in the morning and out doing our adventures. Also was lovely coming back there in the evenings after our adventures for the day and just relaxing by the fire pit enjoying a fire and all the wildlife!

Sylvia’s cabin is incredible. Such a lovely view of the mountains & sunrise. Fantastic interior that was clean & had all the amenities you’d need. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful secluded retreat

We visited family in WV and it was the perfect place to stay. Not too far from town (Petersburg), but felt remote and peaceful. It was very clean and had everything we could need. We made two dinners in the well-equipped kitchen. Sylvia was very responsive and helpful with questions.

Beautiful property

If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the spot. Deep in the woods, at the top of the neighborhood with no traffic. Very clean, communication was great, and so restorative. Fantastic view & very well stocked cabin.

The Rusty Lantern is a spacious cabin with all the amenities and a wonderful view of the mountains of West Virginia. Everything is spotless and nothing has been overlooked. The appliances look brand new and the furnishings and decorative touches tell a story as well as being lovely to regard. The hosts are super responsive and helpful. Highly recommended.

Best cabin rental so far

The cabin was tucked in the mountains with trees all around. The cabin was so good that we stayed indoors all the 4 days and never felt the need to go outside. Modern amenities but at the same time a rustic decor. Very spacious. Super clean bedding and bathrooms. Highly recommend.

What a great cabin. We stayed with friends and kids and everyone fell in love with the cabin, the location, and the view!!! We did spend a good bit outdoors, arounf the cabin, on the porch, relaxing, kids loved exploring, they found fossils, forged for wood/kindling, rode bikes, went fishing, and visited Triangle Rock (pretty cool). Miss Sylvia was amazing and very accommodating. Loved communicating with her very easy to reach and quick in responding to any and all question and inquiries we had. Overall, we LOVED everything abd had an amazing time! We're hiping we would return soon :).

My husband and I are frequent flyers of VRBO, but this couple that owns this home are the sweetest, most kindest and understanding people (now friends) we have ever met. This is by far the best home that we have stayed at, it was so beautiful, quiet, peaceful, it was Heaven on the mountain. It was the first time in West VA and it was so beautiful there, we are now planning to move within this year. Norman and Sylvia are by far the sweetest people ever. You will not be not be sorry. I promise you won’t be sorry that you stayed here. Looking at dates to book again. Go to Smokehole Canyon. This is what you will see.

The outside mountain views were amazing. There were deer in the area. The cabin was extremely clean and nice. It was decorated just right and made us feel at home. The kitchen had everything necessary plus extras if needed. The coffee maker was ready as well as a nice grinder. Amenities were numerous and appreciated. The gas fireplace was delightful. The large deck was nice and there was an outdoor fire pit. The property is all to itself with plenty of privacy to enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountain outdoors. There are great hikes nearby, including Seneca Rocks, Chimney Top, and Dolly Sods. Cheetah B's restaurant in Petersburg is great. I would highly recommend this property for a lovely getaway in the mountains. It snowed a bit on the last two days of our stay, which made the views even better. The host was very good and communicated well. I will definitely keep The Rusty Lantern in mind for future West Virginia trips. Excellent
