About the host
Hosted by Dorothy Palmer
I grew up in Jacksonville and moved away after college. After raising a family of four boys and a husband, I bought a house close to home but miles away. I wanted to be near my parents but immerse myself in the beach life. Atlantic Beach could be anywhere on the east coast, but it happens to be only 30 minutes from downtown Jacksonville, where you can go to enjoy opera, the symphony, road shows from New York and everything a big city has to offer, then go home to the wind, water and sun.
Why they chose this property
Having grown up in Jacksonville, I remember the beaches when they were more remote, quaint and simple. I liked this house because it reminded me of the clapboard beach cottages of old, with porches, wood floors and simple white trim work. By updating the kitchen with Quartzite countertop and full size farm sink, a dual fuel range and French style refrigerator, it is cottage chic, luxurious without being fancy. Master bath renovated, too, with all new fixtures. Updated colors inside the entire house swing the look into the 21st century without sacrificing the feel of historic Atlantic beach.
What makes this property unique
Atlantic Beach is mostly residential so it is quiet with good neighbors. But the greatest advantage to the location is that you can walk to the beach without needing a stoplight. Pedestrian traffic rules in Atlantic Beach, with bikes coming in second. A front porch to drink coffee on in the morning and a patio in the backyard for evening dinners outside, what more could you want?
