Whether you come to relax, browse through quaint shops, or explore the natural beauty of Mentone, Chestnut Oaks is the perfect getaway for you. Our cottage, nestled on the west brow of Lookout Mountain between the historic town of Mentone and Desoto State Park, has a wrap-a-round porch with rockers to enjoy the breathtaking view. Even though our cottage is equipped with satellite TV which means you won't miss your favorite ball game in the fall, most of you will leave it off to enjoy your restful surroundings. The large porch is the perfect place to enjoy the cool shade of the trees in the summer and colorful fall. The winter months reveal the beauty of the valley below and the ridges in the distance. Family, friends, or just the two of you can enjoy the rustic pine paneled 'gathering room' where you can read books, play cards or board games, watch TV, or cook up something is the fully equipped kitchen. On a chilly day enjoy a fire in the gas log stove on the stone hearth. There is a small stone patio with a charcoal grill for your cookouts. The two bedrooms each have a queen sized bed with linens and warm comforts. Each room has storage space in chest of drawers and good closet space. The sofa opens to sleep two if needed. The two bathrooms are equipped with towels and tissue. The cottage is located 4.6 miles from downtown Mentone and 2 miles from Desoto State Park. Some of the many activities available for you include incredible water falls, hiking, horseback riding at the Dude Ranch and golf at Lil Mole Run. Go to Desoto State park or the Canyon Center for more information on events provided. If you don't want to cook at the cottage, try some of the wonderful restaurants in Mentone, The Wildflower Cafe, Elevation, Mentone Market and our two new food trucks one at the Mentone Inn and one at Moon Lake Trading Company. And don't miss the Saturday Farmers Market next to the Mentone Inn, open year round.

Fantastic cabin in a beautiful location. Booking, check-in, and check-out processes were the smoothest I've ever experienced for this kind of accommodation. Communication with the host was easy and responses were received quickly. Highly recommend!
This cabin was perfect for a spur of the moment wedding anniversary trip! Everything was very clean and cozy. The sunsets were amazing! Everythin was exactly as described! We look forward to staying here again!
Our stay was beautiful. We enjoyed the view and amazing sunsets. The beds were comfortable and everything was so clean. The only TV was dish network, but we played cards and enjoyed ourselves. The internet is spotty and we had to go on the porch to make phone calls. That was fine with us!
Always clean and welcoming! Kitchen is well stocked and the beds are still very comfy. A/C and heat work great and the location is quiet. Loved the sunsets from the deck, hikes at Little River, and food in town!
Lovely place! A few notes.-Beds are very nice--definitely not just old beds that they threw in there -Bring your own laundry detergent-The view makes the whole place worth it-The area is a bit remote, so we decided not to go out after dark (just so that we didn't have to worry about finding our way back)-Air conditioner works great, we had good cell signal, it's away from civilization so the wifi is understandably slow-If there's any special kitchen tools you like, bring them. They have basics. -Tap water tastes okay and the ice machine works well. -We liked that it had plenty of towels. -Very clean, you don't need to worry about this. Thanks for a great stay!
This was the second time we stayed at this property and it was better than the first time as we knew exactly what to expect. The house is situated in the State Park such that it's easy to get to many of the park nature sites. It has become our go to property when we want to go to the mountains.
It was a beautiful stay. Nicely located close to everything. My only caveats are the lack of door locks and bad, bad shower heads. A large glass pane covers the top half of the door. It did not make us feel entirely safe at night. There was only one dead-bolt on the door. No other means of securing the doors from inside for the night. The showers would be so nice with hand-held spray heads installed.
The cabin/cottage was cozy and comfortable with an awesome view on the back porch! The well equipped kitchen and gas fireplace made for outstanding family time on Thanksgiving weekend!

About the host
Hosted by Susan Collins
My husband and I love the Mentone area, and in the past we enjoyed staying in rented cabins and the state park. We live 2 hours away, and in 2005 we purchased a cabin of our own on the west brow. We enjoy the area so much, we purchased land and built another cottage for renters and 'spill over' room for our family gatherings. Our cottage is managed by Susan Collins with Mentone Properties, LLC
Why they chose this property
Several years ago my husband and I fell in love with Mentone and this area of Lookout Mountain. We love the West brow view with its beautiful sunsets and distant sounds of the trains traveling in the valley to Chattanooga. In 2006, we purchased land directly across from Comer Boy Scout Camp on Desoto Parkway (County Road 89) and built our Chestnut Oaks in the quaint Mentone style on the edge of the west brow.
