Pluses: Great location, fun top floor outdoor space, attentive hosts.. Minuses: very complex, over the top requirements for authorization of reservation (I've rented all over the world and never had this level of scrutiny as part of reservation - you all must get a ton of bad actors/AI bots who spam your system), outdated keypad system (i use the August app all the time via phone and this system was via August but manual - thus battery issue prevented access from front door)I'm giving you 5 stars bc both negative issues are fixable but would be noticed also by experienced travelers.

Paradise found

We love the North Shore and the house was beautiful and in a great location. Renting bikes is definitely helpful to get to the beaches. Lonnie was so easy to talk to and even checked in on us during the Tsunsmi warning. Thank you for your hospitality, we had a great trip!

Beautiful house. Felt like we were staying at somebody’s nice home, not a short-term rental. Very nicely and tastefully decorated, with furniture that was in good shape, nice appliances and everything you might need. Very clean. In a residential neighborhood. 10-12 minute drive t Hanalei. We will return!!

We had a wonderful stay - the property is very well maintained and located in a quiet area within walking distance from the beach. The house was well stocked with everything you need - paper towels, toilet paper, soap, beach towels, snorkeling gear, extra blankets, good quality pots & pans, kitchen tools and utensils, outdoor grill, outdoor spigot for rinsing after the beach, etc. With windows open and ceiling fans - not having AC wasn't an issue, it was very comfortable. As other reviewers have noted, there is a flight of stairs to access the house (with sturdy handrails)... and the interior is decorated with many porcelain vases and statues - we needed to temporarily move items to be able to use the dining table, kitchen countertop, and coffee table. Not a huge deal, but we had to take photos to remember how to replace the decor items before leaving.Lonnie was lovely to work with, and helpful with info. We had a very relaxing stay. Thank you, Lonnie!

Beautiful Hula Hale vacation spot

We had a lovely visit to Kauai and really enjoyed the Hula Hale house. We loved being able to walk to the beach from the house and everything we needed was provided. The house is a bit of a drive even to Hanalei Bay, but once we got used to that, it wasn't a problem. It's a lovely spot and one we hope to visit again!

Beautiful house near the end of the road in north Kauai

Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean house. It is a great location if you want to be far from the bustle of the airport. The north shore beaches are beautiful - the movie South Pacific was filmed a walking distance from here. Do not miss tunnels beach (3/4 mile walk west)

Hula Hale Tranquility

It was an amazing place to chill and enjoy our small family reunion. It had everything we needed in order to live there happily for a week. On top of that, it was beautiful. I particularly loved the white noise of wind in the trees and the ocean at night. It made for great sleeping. 😊

Amazing home…amazing location!

This home is decorated with such detail…the pictures cannot show it all! It was also very comfortable and filled with anything you needed during your stay. Communication was so easy and quick. This end of the island is the only place to stay and be able to take in all the beauty of this island. We will be back…over and over!

Great house & location w/ gorgeous mountain view

Our stay was near perfect! We especially want to mention that the master bedroom bed is *extremely* comfortable with very nice sheets/pillows, and the kitchen is very well-equipped for any/all cooking needs. Our only notes for possible improvement are that the master bedroom sliding glass door and windows could use drapes or blackout curtains (for guests who like sleeping in) — and guests who come/go after sundown might appreciate an automatic light in the yard/parking area.

Kauai North Shore retreat

Very nice house for a small group. We had the best sleep in comfortable beds, waking up the sounds of birds and surf. The Location was perfect for north shore beaches & hiking. The kitchen (& house) had everything needed, far superior to most rentals. Our only concern was that there was too much decorative stuff, limiting usable space for cooking, computer use (outlets) and gathering. It’s really a lovely house and we enjoyed our stay, just too much decorative stuff.

Perfect holiday

We just spent a week in this beautiful home. We found almost everything about it to be comfortable and relaxing. It is perfectly set up for two couples to enjoy without ever being in each others way. Cocktails on the deck in the evening with the sun setting behind the mountains were lovely. Being up on stilts made for a nice breeze, and the wind in the trees at night lulled us to sleep. The only down points would be that the coffee maker did not work, and there were so many ceramic pieces on every surface, lovely as they were, it was hard to find a clear space to use. Less clutter would be good. None the less we will defiantly try to return again soon. It was the best vacation we have ever had.

North shore getaway

We had a wonderful weeklong stay here. A comfortable, beautifully located home, equipped with virtually everything you might need during your stay. Walking distance to at least a couple of uncrowded beaches, a big gift since the popular beaches can be hard to access due to limited parking. A couple of cautions for some folks: As advertised, the stairs are daunting — more than a full flight up. We’re in our mid-70s, in good though not athletic shape, and for us the stairs were manageable, though getting the luggage up and down was *not* easy. Also, no AC: The up side is that having the house open really brings the outside in, and the Kauai air is glorious. Down side: We were hot at moments. All in all, well worth the trade-off for us but perhaps not for everyone. The road from Hanalei is narrow, with several one-lane bridges, and there’s a good deal of traffic headed to Tunnels Beach and Haena State Park, but everyone was responsible and courteous. If you’re good with the stairs and no AC, this is a perfect getaway.

At home so quickly!

The Hula Hale is a beautiful house that immediately feels like home. My husband and 2 daughters stayed for 6 days and could not have been more comfortable. The huge lanai was a big treat for morning coffee and to listen to the birds. The beds were very comfortable for all of us. Our girls loved their spacious bedroom with a full size bed each. The location of the house is very quiet with a very minimal amount of outside traffic that is not heard from inside the house. You are more likely to hear the birds than cars and that is ok with me. The kitchen had everything we could need after groceries. We got use from the washer and dryer to take care of our stinky hiking clothes. We were a quick 10 minute drive to Hanalei for dinner trips and loved the winding road that lead us there and back. The Hula Hale is at the top of our list for a return trip and we would consider it a home away from home and a happy place in the meantime. Acacia was fantastic at communicating before and after and the property was so perfect, there was no need to reach out to her during but she made herself available, if so. Mahalo Acacia!

AMAZING place!

Acacia & Keith's property was immaculate and pictures dont do the place justice...from inside out! Check in and check out process was seamless. We reached out to Acacia several different times and she was super responsive. Location is unbeatable - about a 5 minute walk to a local private beach which had great snorkeling. There was also an area sectioned off for a resting pregnant Monk Seal who was soon joined by her pup. We spent a full day relaxing there and enjoyed the interaction between the two while they rested on the beach. Tunnels and Haena State Park/beach are a short drive down the road as are the shops and restaurants in town. There is an option to rent bikes but we decided not to. However i do think it would be a fun way to get around. As fitness enthusiasts there is just so much to see and do on the north shore. If you scuba dive, Fathom Five offers a great shore dive at Tunnels. If you want to workout at a great gym id strongly suggest Kilauea Phys Ed in Kilauea about a 30 minute drive (very nice facility). Princeville is close and we finally made it to Queens Bath after 3 trips to the island...its a must! I could go on and on but our trip.up north was nothing short.of amazing and it wouldnt have been possible without our stay at Hula Hale. Mahalo!

Seriously this was one of the best vacations of my life!!! Bucket list checked off!

Best friends and spouses had the most amazing stay at Hula Hale in early February!! The pictures don’t do it justice. The property is fantastic from every little detail described in other reviews they are on point. The house was so comfortable from the moment we woke up to the amazing views of the mountain behind us to the sound of the ocean through the open windows. We had sunny, 80° days and cool 60° nights. In the evenings we either ate out or cooked our own meals. Everything in the kitchen was accessible and the bbq grill was great. Local farmers market in Haena on Tuesday is perfect place to get produce and even organic chicken. The local market has great things if you are a cook and need some extra condiments or spices. Neighborhood coolers provide fresh avocado using the honor system. The host and property manager were extremely responsive and left everything clearly marked for instructions. Everything from feeding the little fish in the morning in the evening to being kind and respectful to the neighbors it was great advice. This is truly Island living in Haena. We loved the proximity to tunnels Beach, the state park and Hanalei. The beach chairs towels and cooler were a big hit. We rented a jeep and toured the island or just stayed close by at the many beautiful beaches. Ke’e Tunnel, Annini and Black Pot just to name a few If you’re looking for a very quiet, peaceful spot on the most beautiful garden island, consider Hula Hale.

Pure Oasis!

I have to say from the moment the property managers reached out to us to the time we checked out this was by far the best VRBO rental we have ever stayed in. The homeowners were personable and had great communication with us throughout our stay. It was such a delight speaking with them. There is so much attention to detail put into this home. It's a private oasis in a small neighborhood of beach houses. The landscaping is outstanding and well maintained. Feels like you’re living in a jungle with all the green vegetation; not to mention the cattle and horses across the street that graze throughout the day. The wrap around deck has plenty of seating and has sun and shade to cater to your needs. I absolutely loved the A-frame/vaulted ceiling, the lombard/hurricane window shutters, the wooden surfboards and how bright and airy the property is. The house was almost an escape from our vacation- as we had a hard time leaving the place to venture out each day. The house is situated in an ideal location- close to many picturesque beaches; as well as just a few minutes’ walk down a small path to Kepuhi beach which is clean, quiet and beautiful. The house and amenities are convenient and maintained well. If you were going to cook, the kitchen is well stocked with every implement you could need - just bring your main groceries. The house has tons of sitting and lounging space in many rooms, so you can all be together or find peace and quiet alone if you like. For people coming from afar, there are beach chairs, mats, beach towels, coolers, and umbrellas all stored and ready for you. The bathrooms are all stocked with Malie Organics hand and body soap- very luxurious! I ended up purchasing the Koke’e scent online upon departure from the island. Bath towels are also readily available, and they have a commercial sized washer and dryer. There's a BBQ grill and outdoor firepit available for use if desired. The only items we needed to bring were our clothes, food, and sunscreen. Overall - everything was amazing and comfortable, I can't say enough great things about the location, property, management and owners. I would stay here again without question!
