About this property
Private, Cozy, Quiet on double lot near Beautiful Higgins and Houghton Lakes
Higgins Lake was recently voted MSN Real Estate's Top 10 Locations for Boat Owners!
Enjoy this cozy cottage, just a short one mile drive to crystal clear Higgins Lake boat launch.
Our cozy cottage is nestled in a lush, green forest setting, and is one mile from the sixth most beautiful lake in the world, Higgins Lake and just a few miles north of the largest inland lake in Michigan, Houghton Lake. We have local trails to explore for snowmobiles, quads, dirt bikes, ATV's and side by sides just around the corner. Only 4 miles from the 6/7 trail head at the US-127 exit 201 that you can ride to from the driveway. We have a front deck with a gas grill and furniture out back to help you relax and soak up the summer sun! There's a large outdoor table with chairs as well as a picnic table. We have a large double lot with wooded lots on both sides (no close neighbors!) that provide a peaceful private up north setting along with a stone bonfire pit out back for roasting s'mores under the stars. For those rainy days enjoy a game of cards under the cathedral ceiling covered porch out back with a ceiling fan and dimmable LED lights!
Gerrish Twp. park is a local boat launch that is one mile away. It provides docking, boat launch, fishing, picnic area, and much more as you enjoy our Northern Michigan summers. Perch, pike, and trout are among the fish that can be caught in Higgins Lake plus public restrooms and a rinsing station. All is accessible by car.
South State Park and Campground is just 2 miles away which also offers a public beach and boat launch as well as camping.
Local pizza and ice cream from Polar Parlar is less than a mile away as well as Nibbles Ice cream and a fully stocked party store. For more needs theres also a Dollar General.
The cottage sleeps 6 comfortably with option of 8 if double up on the two full beds. We prefer no more than 6 adults, so the 8 would be with a few kids. We've had 3 10 yr old girls sleep in one full bed a few times while there were spare beds available (don't ask me why). A cozy family cottage interior, and offers many amenities to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
With the cottage being located on the south end of Higgins Lake and conveniently located between US-127 & I-75 trips to Traverse City, Petoskey, Cheboygan and even Mackinaw Island are recommended day trips (each within 1.5 hours drive).

Nice place for spontaneous cross country ski mini-vacation
Clean, warm (propane fire place was nice touch), overall very comfortable cabin in close proximity to great cross country skiing (North Higgins, South Higgins, Ogemaw).

Thank you for the review, we’re glad you enjoyed your stay!
We were happy to find availability here for July 4-7.
Very affordable and plenty of property to enjoy. Nice secluded neighborhood.
We brought a trailer with a side-by-side & dirt bike and there was plenty of room to park it.
We will definitely be back. Communication was clear, environment was clean, beautifully decorated, and homey feeling. My family and I had a great getaway. Thank you so much!💓

Had a fantastic time staying here, loved Higgins Lake and the beach, didn’t even have time to use all the amenities the property has to offer! Can’t wait to come back and make a campfire and s’mores. Perfect for our young family of 5!

My sister and I had a great time staying two nights! It was close to where we needed to be, and the neighborhood was quiet. We even saw some deer wandering around on our way in. Highly recommended.

This cabin was very clean and comfortable, the neighborhood was really quiet. Mike was very quick to respond when we texted with a question. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and would highly recommend this property. Restaurant recommendation: Cut River Grille; the food was excellent as was the wait staff.

Great little house with some nice recent additions like a covered back patio with adjustable LED lighting, newer HVAC, good WiFi. Very nice little neighborhood close to the lakes and APV/ snow machine trails.

Thank your for your detailed review! We’d love to host you again sometime.
This cozy cabin was perfect for my husband and me to get away from the city for the weekend. It had everything we needed. We really liked that it was on a double lot with lots of trees, so we felt more secluded from the other houses, especially when we had campfires each night. But it's in a great neighborhood, conveniently located between both lakes.

Our group enjoyed a very relaxing weekend away from our husbands and kids. :) The home was clean, secluded, and just right for our group of 4! The beds were very comfortable and the house was well stocked with everything we needed. Check in/out was a breeze. We will definitely be back!

Mike is quick to respond to all messages. cute 'cabin' - nice to have a comfy chair as well as couch in TV area.
extra spices were a nice touch, (but we brought our own).
small for as many as it can sleep, if you plan to be inside.
Property as advertised. Very clean and well maintained. In a neighborhood, but a very private setting. Nice back yard with covered patio with great lighting. Property owner was very accommodating answering any questions.

Thank you for your detailed and kind response Tom! We appreciate you staying with us.
The location is perfect. It was a struggle keeping the house warm, which we know was due in part to below zero temperatures each night of our stay. The second bedroom is snug with the extra bunks, as noted in the listing but it was still a bit of a shock.
Mike's communications at every step of our rental experience was thorough, which is always appreciated.

David I’m sorry to hear you struggled keeping it warm. I wish I had known you had this issue. We have 3 sources of heat with the propane fireplace, wall heat pump units and the electric baseboard heating. We’ve never had an issue keeping it toasty warm on the coldest nights. Good feedback though so I know to mention to other guests who may not realize there’s plenty of heating options.
About the host
Hosted by Mike Christian
We are a family of 4. Wife, Husband, 10yr old Daughter and 21yr old son (that doesn't come up much, go figure). We are a non smoking family that enjoys a clean home, watching movies, snowmobiling, boating and bonfires out back. This is our paradise.
Why they chose this property
We bought this property as our second home to get away and its been a dream come true for us. In the last year our jobs changed which forced Mike to work Saturdays and severely limiting our weekends we could visit the cabin. For this reason we decided to share the cabin with others. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with this cabin as soon as we pulled in the driveway. The windows in the front going up to the peak, the landscaping outside, the woods on either side of the cabin that provide more privacy and the quiet neighborhood all added to our love for this property. Being able to snowmobile and ride four wheelers at the local trails plus being so close to two of Michigan's greatest lakes makes this property all the more enjoyable. If you have never been on Higgins Lake which was voted the 6th best lake in the world then you're missing out! The water is crystal clear and reminds us of our numerous trips to the Caribbean. You won't be disappointed!
