We stayed at this lakeside home during the winter, and it was a cozy and memorable getaway. The snowy setting made the views especially beautiful, and the lake looked peaceful and picturesque surrounded by fresh snow. Once inside, the house felt warm, comfortable, and welcoming—perfect for escaping the cold. The home was clean and well laid out, with comfortable beds and a kitchen that had almost everything we needed. It was a great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy time together while staying cozy indoors.Access to the property was a bit challenging due to winter conditions, and navigating the driveway and entry took some extra care. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but something future guests may want to be prepared for when visiting during snowy weather.Overall, this is a lovely lakeside home and a great option for a peaceful winter retreat. The host was very communicative and friendly.

Negatives:Upon arrival, there was an infestation of fruit flies. we had to hang 12 fly traps around the house to help with the issue. Reported the issue right away. Pest control couldn't come out until Monday at 10am. They didn't show until almost 2pm, we wasted most of the day waiting for pest control on our vacation. Floors in the home are uneven and in the hallway there is a hump that we continuously tripped over. Bedroom with bunk beds is very small and tight. 2nd bedroom with queen bed is very small, 1 side of the bed is right up against the wall/window unit. House A/C has been broken for over a year, based off of reviews. Window units still in use and as previously mentioned, one bed is right up against it. Dishes were put away that were filthy. Turns out, the dishwasher fills with water but doesnt run/clean. whoever came in between renters did NOT look at dishes to see they were dirty before putting away. When reported, we were asked what times worked for us to sit and wait for a new one to be installed so we could be there to let them in. Hot water runs out very quickly, not enough water to last more than 2 showers in a row, yet the house sleeps 8-10 people.basement flooded, reported it and no response. mouse droppings all over the basement. kitchen trash can kept cutting the bags from opening closing drawer its in. hot tub went green and smelled within 2-3 days and no one ever came out to treat it. house smelled musty/wet. hallway bathroom smelled like urine.

House subfloor significantly unlevel and severely soft and too flexible. All members of family experienced dizziness at some point due. contractor stated he knew about it and recommended it be addressed to owner, but they refused.Mice: pictures included of 2 caught plus mouse droppings. Mouse droppings found everywhere. . HVAC Air handler never worked: arrived Friday, 25 Jul, and temp was already in mid 70s in house with thermostat set to 68 when we arrived. Never got cooler. Lost all day Saturday trying to keep our dogs from overheating by staying in shade OUTSIDE, since it was cooler outside. HVAC tech and mgr stated to my wife and I that the air handler was not operational at all.Hot water heater: only 42 gallons. Nowhere big enough for a rental place that markets it sleeps 10 people. Ran out of hot water multiple times after only 2 showers. Contractor stated he recommended to owner to replace hot water heater, but owner refused and only replaced heating elements in 50 year old hot water heater.Safety hazard….kitchen island not safely secured: Safety hazard….hot tub extremely green, cloudy, and smelled like fish: see picture. Safety hazard….glass showers doors hit each other easily: Safety hazard: deck has large 6" gap between house and inner edge of deck. Owner stated this was due to snow removal. This is flat out wrong and MD code does not require this large gap. Lack of trash storage: had to take offsite 20 min away

Response from VrboOwner on 7 Oct 2025
We received these complaints during and post Keith’s stay. We were able explained and share photos of our space with VRBO. We suggest you read our multiple 5 star reviews across all STR websites. We hope this one bad review does not hinder your stay at our property. We responded to every guests concerns that was doable in the timeframe of their stay. We are a new STR and laid brand new flooring and subflooring. We have NEVR had mice and not had mice since this renters stay. We were contacted Saturday July 28th at 2:19pm concerning the HVAC We had our HVAC company there at 3:30pm. Once the HVAC realized they could not fix it that day we ordered 4 window units, one for each bedroom and one large one for the living room. They arrived at 5:43. They were then installed by 8:30pm. as noted in the screenshot guest Keith acknowledge " We do appreciate you doing everything you can and totally understand. This is just unlucky and not your fault." We have had our 10 guest limit. Prior to renting our home we had the hot water heater inspected and passed for our size home. We have NEVER had any complaints. The kitchen island is on wheels and remains locked. We added a note in our welcome guide to make guests aware. Our home has been inspected by Garrett County. A portion of our home is manufactured and part is stick built. In Garrett County they do not allow decks to be attached. Our home is located in bear country and we provide guests with 2 cans, excess must be removed.
