The host was thoughtful by reaching out to make sure our needs were met. The home was large enough, comfortable, and the layout was perfect for our group!
This property was as described, a lovely, well-kept home in a historic area of Winston-Salem. The kitchen was perfect for preparing meals, formal dining room where we could eat together, comfortable beds, bathrooms to accommodate us all. We highly recommend this property.
Our extended stay on Hawthorne Rd. was wonderful. We loved the beautiful home, the backyard, and the park across the street. It was perfect for our family of four, and the property managers were great.
Stayed here with family for our daughters Wake Forest graduation weekend. Charming house as described with plenty of room for our group of 7. Nice amenities, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms & kitchen and nice outdoor areas. Perfect location to campus and downtown.
Great location. Parks close by within walking distance. Great location for great food all around. The house was clean and as depicted. This is an older house and has just the right amount of charm between the way houses were built in the first half of the 20th century and now. We would book again if our travels take us back to Winston-Salem.
We have stayed here multiple times. It’s a great location, and a spacious home with everything you need for a family. Eric and his team do a great job communicating and preparing the house for a comfortable stay.
Thank you.
The property was just as described. We were there for a girls weekend and slept 8 comfortably. Everything was clean and plenty of supplies. Would definitely recommend!
The property was very nice and everything you could possibly need was available. When we arrived found smoke detector battery going bad, they sent a maintenance person to take care of it . Had a very wonderful stay enjoyes by all. Would definitely stay again when in the area.
We rented Eric's place for three nights while we were in Winston-Salem to move our son into college and it was perfect. The location was great, everything was clean and functioning, and it was well equipped. The only thing that was a little tricky was the parking as the house is located on a busy street and we had to back out of the driveway.
We stayed for our daughter's wedding and had a few family members with us. The house was spacious, clean and well stocked with everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. It was also conveniently located to all our events downtown, which was very helpful. There is some street noise as the house is on a main street, so if that bothers you, bring earplugs or a sound machine. It's not bad, just something to be aware of for the two bedrooms that face the street mainly. Overall it was a great place to stay.
The property worked well for 9 adults and 1 toddler. The house was well equipped for a toddler as it provided a crib, changing mat and highchair. The yard was fenced in so it was easy for the toddler to play. Overall nice property and good communication with owner.
We had some challenges, but the property managers were great. We had a power outage because the next-door neighbors tree fell and took out the powerlines, but the property managers refunded our money for one of the nights.
Our family of eight adults + two bridesmaids had a fantastic stay at Alspaugh Manor for our daughter’s wedding. Lots of space, huge back yard, lighted wisteria pergola, comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen… LOTS to like. Management team attentive and provided information and support.
Truly Historic Beauty That Is Great For Girls Weekend
Seven family members from four different states met in Winston Salem for a girls weekend. This house was perfect for our gathering. It is well maintained, clean and very comfortable. The house has a lot of charm and is perfectly located for venturing out for segway & haunted walking tours, wineries, shopping and restaurants. The house is also well equipped for dining in. If ever back in Winston Salem, most definitely will book this house again.

Has great potential but needs work
There were 8 of us. 4 adults and 4 kids (6, 4,3 and 7 months. The size and location worked great for us. Unfortunately there are a lot of negatives. The house was not clean: the floors were filthy, the freezer compartment in the fridge had black mold, the air return vents were filthy, there was black mold on the ceilings in 2 showers. The tub in the downstairs bathroom was rusted and the front steps were falling apart. Also the laundry room had holes in the floor and wall (very concerning with small children).

James,
Thank you for your review and feedback. It was very surprising to hear of your issues, especially given the fact that we sent out an email to check on you after the first night’s stay and you didn’t mention any of these problems. In fact, you made a list of 5 very specific requests in response to that email, and we made sure to take care of all of them by the end of the day. If you would have told us about a problem with cleanliness of the property, it would have been dealt with right away; it is not typical to get this complaint, however, as we have been working with the same professional cleaning company for over 10 years and are usually complimented on our property’s cleanliness. As to the front steps- while they are old, they are not falling apart. Most guests choose to enter through the back door and bypass the front steps entirely, however, since this is the entrance connected to the garage and driveway. The laundry room is pictured in our listing photos, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that there were slats lining the walls; we agree that small children do not belong in a laundry room, although ours is safe.
This is a great home for a family staying in the Winston Salem area. Nice area of town, near the park for kids. House is clean, and offers ample space for a family. Owners are great, communicate and available, and create a nice rental experience. Highly recommend it!
The property was great. Clean, spacious, nice location, easy to access, good communication with the property managers. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen which was bright and easy to use.

About the host
Hosted by Travel Winston Salem Team - Eric, Peggy, Emily, and Julia
I grew up in Winston-Salem, and later in New Orleans, Louisiana. My grandparents bought the house on this listing 60+ years ago, and I bought the home from them when they retired because I loved the home so much and wanted to keep it in the family. I am a professional with a wife and two young children. I truly enjoy all aspects of the hospitality business!
Why they chose this property
This home is a special part of my family, having been owned by my late grandparents. My father and aunt and uncles were all raised in the home and we share many memories of family times there. We have restored the home perfectly with all the charm of the 1920s, while adding new plumbing, HVAC, a modern and bright kitchen, and electricity for safety and convenience. The yard is beautifully terraced, with 3 tiers of yard space. We love this house, and we're sure you will as well. We want you to feel like you're at a home away from home. We are responsive and available to help with any of your needs during your stay.
