As a group of 8 arriving from Australia, it was a pleasure to deal with the owner, who responded quickly to any queries and provided us with a beautiful house in a great location. Being there primarily for skiing, the central location gave us quick access to where we wanted to go. As for the house, it was an amazing build, warm and comfortable with all the amenities we could ask for. We would certainly book again next time we visit Summit County.
This was our fourth annual ski trip with friends/co-workers. It was the perfect space for a large group to hangout post day on the mountains! The kitchen is a center point in the home she worked so well for group meals.

Beautiful home!
This house has everything you need for a large group. I think the heated floors are a bonus...everyone agreed they want to return to the Douglas Fir Lodge!
Michael was a fabulous host..,responding quickly whenever I contacted him, many thanks!
This house was perfect for our group of 16 on a 5 day ski trip to Breckenridge and Keystone (both resorts are less than a 30 min drive!) Great space to hang out, cook, eat, and rest. Mountain View’s from every window, and even a fox would come visit the back porch every evening to make sure our needs were met.
Kitchen was stocked well, check in/checkout was a breeze, home instructions were useful, owners were responsive, overall a great experience for us. Folks in our group have all ready asked if we can book it again.

Excellent house for a ski vacation!
Myself and several of my ski friends stayed at the Douglas Fir Lodge and everyone agreed that it was a fantastic place to stay. There are plenty of bedrooms with comfortable beds as well as enough bathrooms for everyone. The radiant floor heating kept the house a very comfortable temperature and there was also plenty of hot water for showers after skiing. The house is very large with plenty of space to spread out and it has a very large kitchen with everything we needed to prepare a large dinner for everyone. Plenty room for vehicles as well.
This log house is SPECTACULAR and I cannot praise it enough. It met and exceeded all of our expectations.
Breathtaking views from the property, very clean, heated floors so necessary due to the winter storm we had during these past days!, plenty of space in the surroundings for the kids to enjoy & play in the snow :) its spacious kitchen, beautiful rooms, most of them are suites with private balconies. All ski resorts (Keystone, Copper, Breckenridge, Vail) were 15-35 mins away which was perfect for us! Everything accessible from the house (a 5 min drive --> (groceries, restaurants, shops) the location overall is perfect. Michael is a great host and very accessible. I can't recommend this property enough. If you're looking for a beautiful log house which can accommodate your family in a perfect location with everything close by, don't look elsewhere, this is the place!

Thank you very much for your review. Hope to have you again as guests if your travel plans take you to Colorado.
Beautiful home with great space for large extended family vacation, and about anything you would need. Great central location for our families to do various summer activities including rafting, zip-lining, adventure parks, train, lots of hiking, and exploring the area. While so much of the country was experiencing record breaking high temps - we enjoyed the mild weather and beauty of the mountains! The playground was really nice for the little ones, and several adults enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings.
Kitchen has plenty of pans for cooking for large group as well as dishes and silverware for meals. The bedroom with twin beds has an interesting interior window/opening to foyer. Not really an issue with our group as early risers exited through other doors some mornings, so wouldn't disturb the youth sleeping in the room - as the sound does travel through the opening.

Nice cabin
Our family had a fabulous trip. The cabin was very nice and spacious! We appreciated the garage door openers being left to allow easy into the cabin. The large showers were a bonus too. With a few improvements this cabin would receive 6 stars. The cabin lacks inviting outdoor seating. The cabin needs more linens for large parties. Each bathroom only had 2-3 washclothes so we found ourselves washing towels and washclothes nightly. Who wants to wash clothes nightly on vacation? The bed sheets were also flannel which is not a good mix for a house without an air conditioner during the summer. Due to the summer heat and lack of air this cabin also needs more fans for each bedroom. Just a suggestion...a firepit would be nice outside in the place of the swingset.

Thank you for your review. We have an unusually warm summer and I can see how house can get warm, if windows are not left open overnight to help with cooling it down. There is one fan in each of 6 bedrooms. However, we’ll consider getting more – thank you for your suggestion. It’s not clear how you ran out of linens. Each bathroom has 2 sets of washcloths, hand towels and bath towels for each person in the party, with the second set being in under sink cabinets. We have considered having a firepit. However, since most of our guests are coming with children, we preferred an outside playground instead. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Nice house but had some real issues
I will start this review by saying I have rented over 25 properties in Colorado over the past 40 years so I have good point of reference. Automatic water turn off switch for the water main turned off Saturday evening. Thank goodness we had all showered for our son's wedding before this happened but returned from the wedding to no water. Could not brush our teeth. flush any toilets or even get a drink of water. Called your emergency number Sunday morning several times until they finally answered and they talked us through the procedure to turn the water back on so we could shower and make coffee before heading out. Also found the heat hard to control. Really hot in some rooms, freezing in others. One room (bedroom with twin beds) even had some snow and water blowing in Friday night. Not a fan of the flannel sheets. Look really cute but not comfortable to sleep on. Pillows not great either. Luxury is an exaggeration. Appointments fall more in the mediocre range. View and location however were excellent and the house was clean on a positive note.

I am sorry to hear that your stay at our house did not meet your expectations.
Before your arrival the house was uniformly heated to 72 degrees. Heating in the house is multi-zoned and each room is individually controlled by a thermostat, as described in the house manual. It would have been better if you adjusted thermostat temperature to your liking rather than wasting energy by opening windows and doors to the balconies and getting snow into the room.
Our house is eco-friendly and is equipped with automatic water shut off system to prevent water leaks. Based on the water log, during your stay someone from your party did not turn off water in one of the faucets. As a result, water was running for 4 hours before it got automatically shut off around 11 p.m. on Saturday night. I am glad that our management company could resolve the issue in a timely matter and water was running again at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. For faster resolution, you could have contacted me directly as the owner, which you never did.

It was great but internet was a problem.
Everything amazing. The only problema was that internet really didn’t work for a group of 12.

I am sorry to see that you decided to rate your stay so poorly because you had a problem to connect your device to internet. Given the amount of data other members of your party used during the stay, they did not have issues. The internet to the house is 800Mbps and throughout all of your stay the speed did not drop below 500Mbps which is plenty for the group of 12. I've provided you recommendations on how to solve your connectivity issues and I am sorry that you were not able to follow the directions.
On the other hand, your party violated a number of house rules which I had to discuss with you over the phone, including unauthorized access into the basement.
This is a very nice property. The actual home is nicer than the pictures portray. Secluded and private yet close to downtown. Well appointed inside and very comfortable. Great home for families to get away from the hustle of busy lives. High recommended!
Douglas Fir Lodge was a beautiful place to rest while getting ready for our daughter's wedding. The bedrooms were spacious and the bathrooms were clean. The kitchen was large enough to accommodate several "cooks". We enjoyed the use of the hot tub as well as the laundry facilities. We were thrilled to experience a snowy day in the Rockies. I especially enjoyed awakening to falling snow in a place so comfortable. It was an experience I would gladly repeat.

The house was wonderful. It was everything we were looking for!
From the moment we arrived, everyone felt right at home. The owners were great to work with, and easy to communicate with. The accommodations were very nice! The house was very clean, and had all the amenities we wanted and needed. The kitchen and bath were well-stocked. We cooked delicious meals, and had plenty of dishes and cookware. The bathroom had all the extras you may have forgot, and lots of thick, soft towels. The bedrooms were nicely decorated and welcoming. There were sleeping accommodations on every floor, which was nice because the late sleepers weren't awakened by the early risers. We absolutely loved sitting on the porch in the morning with coffee and conversation. The lake house was such a warm, welcoming place to come back to after a day seeing the sights. Super friendly owner wish he had more rentals.

Amazing Colorado Mountain Retreat
Our family visits the Colorado mountains every summer (my husband's family is from CO). This is our 2nd visit to Douglas Fir Lodge and by far our absolute favorite place to stay!!
The kitchen is well-equipped, it is very kid-friendly house, and gorgeous views when walking around the neighborhood.
The house is very well-maintained and the rooms are well-appointed.
The owners are so easy to work with, professional, polite and respond in a very timely manner.
It is the Colorado Mountain House of choice for our family and we always hope it works out for us to stay here each summer!!

Great place for our family vacation!
Aside from the forest fire and the need to evacuate, Douglas Fir Lodge was perfect for our family vacation. Plenty of room for all to have their own space and close to towns to enjoy other activities. We had an awesome time!

Excellent experience
This house had everything we needed. We were organizing a training and had 12 adults comfortably staying in this lodge. Plenty of kitchen equipment to make our own meals, lots of space, and the views from the house are beautiful. The communication with the owner before arrival was reliable and quick. The home exceeded our expectations and we will definitely return in the future.
Thanks!

Beautiful House!
A group of adults stayed at the Douglas Fir Lodge and found it to be a wonderful place to stay. The house is beautiful! There are plenty of bedrooms with comfortable beds as well as enough bathrooms for everyone. The house is very large with plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped for preparing large meals. Additionally the driveway and garage had enough space for several cars.

About the host
Hosted by Michael & Susanna Khazhinsky
We are a ski and snow-loving family from Austin, Texas. Having a mountain log house was always a dream of ours. We felt in love with the house the first time we saw it. The house is beautifully constructed of Douglas Fir logs trucked down from Canada. It was designed with mountain vacation in mind with plenty of living and sleeping areas to get cozy after a long day outdoors. If you like the winter, you will find the summer even better. The house backs up to National Forest, making hiking or cross country skiing available right out the back door. You might see moose, deer, fox and the occasional bear from your window. Really!
Why they chose this property
Great skiing, Great views and a Great home. You will not be disappointed !!! The house is centrally located between Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain and Breckenridge. Just 5 minutes off Interstate 70, in a quiet single family home area on large lots. Situated on the side of Buffalo Mountain, high enough to provide sweeping mountain views. The house is also less than 30 min drive to Vail Resort and about 1 hour drive to Denver.
What makes this property unique
The house has great mountain ambiance: great mountain views, custom made log furniture, etc. The layout of the house is designed to bring families and friends together, while providing private sleeping quarters for everyone. It comfortably sleeps 18. The bedding, including duvet covers, is changed between guests. The home is decorated in a traditional northern rocky-mountain lodge theme and the kitchen is well equipped for the gourmet chef. The house has very quiet and efficient in floor heating system that provides additional comfort in winter months. The house has three Masters each with its own fireplace, three additional bedrooms, den, and several furnished quiet corners. There is plenty of room to spread out while still being together. The heated garage provides plenty of space for storing ski gear. Long driveway accommodates several vehicles. Private hot tub is for guest enjoyment outside. The property is locally managed. Kitchen supplies, cleaning and personal care products are eco-friendly. The house has high speed wireless internet, high definition TV's and Roku players in all three master suites as well as in common den area. There is a SONOS music system. We also have for you to enjoy playing Yamaha digital piano, board games, air hockey and foosball tables. For the youngest guests, we have an outdoor playground with a slide, swing sets and monkey bars, as well as baby toys, baby bath tub, walker and high chair. Please review the following pages for more information about the house. We are sure you will enjoy your stay here!
