Shawangunk Homestead - comfy, posh apartment near Minnewaska

This beautiful 2 - bedroom guest apartment is a cushy launch pad for climbing in the Gunks, hiking at Minnewaska, biking the rail trail and exploring the glorious Hudson Valley. 10 minutes from the congestion of New Paltz, this peaceful apartment has all the amenities of home; a private entrance, dishwasher, full bath, full kitchen, laundry, TV and WiFi. The bedrooms feature a comfortable queen bed, or a twin bed that converts to a firm king bed. There is even a massage chair! We are a small homestead with orchards, a garden and chickens. Bring your dog, we are pet friendly for friendly pets and offer doggy daycare in a beautiful dog run. We love families, the extra person fees do not apply to children but please request that they are removed - VRBO does not do this automatically. The Hamlet of Gardiner with restaurants, antiques, art shops and the Walkill Valley Rail Trail is a short walk. This is a great place to recharge with a weekend away, or a respite for weary travelers. We have lived, worked and played here a long time, so let us know what you are interested in and how we can help out. We love to share our home and region with guests.

Hatti was a wonderful host! She made sure our group was comfortable (including offering a massage chair for our sore muscles after cross country skiing). The place was so charming and perfect for our weekend stay.

We had an excellent stay. The owners were very friendly and extremely welcoming, ensuring that everything was in order for our visit. The place was inviting, warm, and extremely clean. There are numerous windows and skylights that provide ample amounts of natural light. The flat featured numerous up-to-date energy-saving appliances, and it was comfortable on the rather cool and wind-swept days we were there. We were in New York for some personal business, and coming back to the house at the end of the day was quite comforting. The bed was extremely comfortable, and there were plenty of clean and fresh linens. The bath was clean and had all the necessary items, including shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and even Q-tips, just in case you forgot them. Parking was excellent and highly available, and the owners even checked to ensure our parking needs were met. There was a large yard and a dog run in case you are traveling with pets. Overall, a great and enjoyable stay for us, and we will return soon. We highly recommend this homestead! Thank you, Hattie and William!

I was the naturalist at Minnewaska for 12 years and was more recently a museum educator at the NYS Museum. My husband is a retired Mechanical Engineer, who is fluent in German. We are climbers. We love sharing our area and experience with our guests.

Why they chose this property

We are so close to Minnewaska State Park Preserve and the Gunks, but also close enough to the Hamlet of Gardiner to walk to town. We can bike to New Paltz on the railtrail or drive there in 5 minutes.

What makes this property unique

Our homestead has orchards, garden and chickens. There are places to walk on the property. It is quiet here and guests have the exclusive use of the front yard and private parking and entrance.
