About the host
Hosted by Patrick OHare
I’m a Californian, a world traveler, and I design hotels and restaurants for a living. I’ve spent years thinking about what makes a stay feel effortless: inspired spaces that flow, and details that make you feel taken care of without a lot of fuss.
I was drawn to Palm Springs for the design culture and the laid-back energy. It’s sunny, easy to navigate, and full of architecture, art, and great places to eat and wander. I started coming for quick resets and it quickly became one of my favorite getaways.
I like hosting because I genuinely enjoy helping people have a great trip. I’ve set the home up the way I’d want to find it as a guest: comfortable, enlivening, and homey. I also love sharing my local favorites and pointers, especially with guests who are coming to experience Palm Springs for something special, whether that’s a design weekend, a celebration, or just a calm break in the sun.

Why they chose this property
I chose Racquet Club Estates because it’s one of the most architecturally consistent neighborhoods in Palm Springs. You really feel the midcentury character here, with a great mix of Alexander-built homes by William Krisel and distinctive Meiselman designs. The streets are clean and low-key, the homes have room to breathe, and the whole area has that classic Palm Springs look without feeling like a tourist zone.
What I enjoy most is how it balances convenience and calm. You’re close enough to get into downtown quickly for restaurants, galleries, and shopping, but when you’re back at the house it’s quiet and relaxed. It’s also an easy walk to nearby parks and everyday essentials, and a great jumping-off point for desert day trips, including Joshua Tree. Add in friendly neighbors and a true Palm Springs vibe, and it’s exactly the kind of place I like coming home to.

What makes this property unique
What makes this home unique is the balance it strikes between design, architecture, and the outdoor setting. It’s a true midcentury Palm Springs experience, thoughtfully updated with stylish interiors and the kind of layout that makes indoor-outdoor living feel effortless.
The landscape is a big part of what sets it apart: mature olive trees, sculptural boulders, and multiple living areas that flow naturally from the house. The full-size pool and in-ground spa are positioned for an unobstructed view of the San Jacinto Mountains (no overhead wires), so whether you’re swimming, lounging, or soaking at sunset, the backdrop is the real deal.
Inside, the home is set up for actual living, not just “staying.” The gourmet kitchen features an Italian range and real cookware, so it’s easy to cook together and linger over meals. Add a gas fireplace, outdoor BBQ, and a firepit for evenings outside, and the house supports the whole rhythm of a Palm Springs getaway.
The furnishings and finishes are elevated but comfortable, and the beds are genuinely good — more “home away from home” than rental. It’s the kind of place guests often say they don’t want to leave.
