About this property

Norsk Hus, 3-Bedroom Lodge w/ fireplace in Mazama

Summary:

Located in Mazama’s Wilson Ranch community, Norsk Hus is a spacious three-bedroom home offering privacy, comfort, and direct access to the Methow Trails system. Bordering National Forest land, it enjoys peaceful surroundings with mountain and forest views. With vaulted ceilings, warm wood finishes, and a stone fireplace, the home combines Northwest lodge style with modern convenience. Guests also have access to the nearby Freestone Inn pool (seasonal) and hot tub.

The Space:

Norsk Hus sits on a one-acre lot surrounded by natural beauty. The open-plan main level includes a comfortable living area with a stone-built gas fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, and a dining area that opens to the outdoor deck. The deck features a gas fire pit (available fall through spring) and Adirondack chairs.

Upstairs, the primary suite includes a queen bed, a private balcony overlooking the surrounding forest, and an ensuite bathroom with both a soaking tub and a walk-in shower. Two additional queen bedrooms and a second full bathroom (with a shower-over-tub) are located on the main floor, along with a half bath for convenience.

Amenities include:

-Gas fireplace

-Outdoor deck with BBQ grill

-Washer and dryer

-Wi-Fi

The Community Trail is a short walk from the house (around 150 yards) , providing the most direct connection to the Methow Trails Nordic system and serving as a mountain biking trail in summer. The Sandy Butte Trail is also accessible from Wilson Ranch, offering additional nordic skiing options without needing to drive (250 yards).

Norsk Hus offers the feel of a mountain lodge with the comforts of home, making it an inviting year-round base for exploring Mazama and the Methow Valley.

The Neighborhood:

Norsk Hus is located within the Wilson Ranch community, part of the Freestone Inn development. Freestone was established by Jack and Elsie Wilson in the late 1940s after Jack left his job on the Golden Gate Bridge. The Wilsons founded a twelve-acre ranch in Mazama, where Jack began offering guests hunting, fishing, camping, and packhorse trips throughout the North Cascades.

Wilson Ranch is just 2 miles, about a 10-minute bike ride, from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead, which provides access to hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoe trails. In addition to the store, well known for its bakery and groceries, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store, which rents mountain and fat bikes, the Mazama Ski School for cross-country ski lessons and rentals, and the popular Mazama Public House, offering local brews, food, and live music. Please note, the Sandy Butte Bistro at the Freestone Inn is not currently operating, and Jack’s Hut may be open on a very limited basis.

North Cascades National Park

Norsk Hus offers easy access to the North Cascades National Park, with a number of world-class hiking trails nearby. The Cutthroat Lake trailhead is less than a 20-minute drive, Washington Pass is about 25 minutes away, and the Maple Pass trailhead is roughly 30 minutes from the home. This prime location allows guests to beat the crowds and find parking more easily during peak hiking seasons.

Winthrop

Just 14 miles down the road, the historic town of Winthrop offers an array of shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Visitors can also explore local history at the Shafer Museum. Winthrop features one of North America’s only NHL-sized outdoor rinks, offering ice skating and hockey in the winter, and active sports and pickleball courts in the summer. The town hosts several annual events, including the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial and Labor Day Rodeos, and Christmas at the End of the Road. Check the town’s website for event details.
