Tucked just off the main highway, this inviting retreat provides a convenient location without sacrificing the peaceful feel of a mountain escape.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love being only 5 miles from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, where winter brings skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing. Downtown Boone is an easy 25-minute drive, and Grandfather Mountain State Park is less than 17 minutes away—making this an ideal home base for hiking adventures and the famous Highland Games.

Inside, the cottage is thoughtfully designed for couples seeking comfort and style. The one-bedroom layout features a king bed and a private ensuite bathroom with a large, custom-tiled shower. The single-level living space includes a cozy leather sofa, a wood-burning stove, and beautifully curated décor that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Large picture-perfect windows fill the space with natural light and offer seasonal mountain views.

The spacious kitchen is both functional and charming, featuring a gas stove, vintage-style refrigerator, and basin sink—perfect for preparing meals after a day of exploring. Unwind in the outdoor hot tub, fire up the gas grill, or relax indoors with the TV offering YouTube TV service.

Wolf River Retreat comfortably accommodates two guests and welcomes one dog with an additional fee, making it a wonderful option for a romantic getaway with your furry companion. AWD or 4WD is recommended during the winter months due to mountain road conditions.

Whether you're here for adventure, festivals, or a peaceful mountain escape, Wolf River Retreat offers the perfect blend of charm, comfort, and unbeatable location.

The cottage was clean when we arrived. We received the wrong code for the lock box, so it took us a while to figure that out. It is advertised as having a king bed, Not so.. it is a VERY firm QUEEN bed. I would not have rented if I had know it was a queen bed. The hot water pressure in the shower was very low. There was no hair dryer provided.

The house was great, beautifully decorated and just like the listing. Hottub worked great. Very pretty land and surrounding areas that our dog loved. Few downfalls: we weren’t given the correct code for the door at check in (was quickly fixed and we got in). The WiFi completely went out, maintenance came but couldn’t fix it. There was barely any service so any communication was very difficult (we had to go back down to main road to message the hosts). And for some reason the front door wouldn’t lock? (We didn’t open it until the second day as we were using the other door) so we had to put a chair underneath the handle to “lock”it. We paid a lot of money to stay here, and overall the house was very nice. Just some minor inconveniences…but hey stuff happens! Guest services said they should be getting in touch with us so we will see.
