This is a light-filled, airy, newly remodeled 1BR/1BA basement apartment suitable for two people. We live upstairs but you have your own private entrance and patio. It is likely you will hear us and our dogs moving about occasionally. We try to keep noise to a minimum but complete silence is impossible. We provide ear plugs, a noise machine, and a box fan for light sleepers, available at your fingertips in the bedroom.

The apartment is down a set of approximately 15 stone stairs around the back of the house. Guests have exclusive, private access to the entire basement apartment as well as your own back porch area complete with propane fire pit.
The back yard beyond the patio is reserved for our two dogs, Pearl (white) and Sprout (brown). There is an Invisible Fence border just below your patio, so the dogs cannot get to you. Please do not call them to you or venture into the yard to try to interact with them, you are a stranger to them and they can be protective of our property. Many thanks!
Your space and entrance are private, so there is the option for virtually zero interaction if that`s your preference. We do live upstairs, so we will always be available for anything you need, either in person or by phone/text. And we will definitely greet you as you come and go if we are around!
The house is perched on a hillside amid wooded backyards and low-traffic streets in a welcoming, safe neighborhood a mile from downtown and just over a mile and a half from the iconic Grove Park Inn. It's an easy 8 mile drive along a beautiful ridge top road straight to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring your bikes (and helmets!) if that's your thing - downtown is a quick ride from here. Or you can heel-toe it as well - a 5-10 minute walk yields multiple dining options, coffee houses, and a wine shop. Walk another 5-10 minutes to the center of downtown Asheville. Ask us how to stay on quiet neighborhood streets and avoid some of the busier thoroughfares on the way downtown. Rideshares are always another option, the ride to town is a mile so it's super-cheap. If you choose to drive, street parking can be a challenge. There are several public parking garages downtown:
Wall Street Garage 45 Wall St
Rankin Avenue Garage 68 Rankin Ave
Asheville parking garage 77 W Walnut St
Pack Square Garage 26 Biltmore Ave
College Street Garage 164 College St
This is a non-smoking property, both inside and out. This includes cigars, vapes, e-cigs, Juuls, etc. etc. If it emits smoke or smells, please refrain from use while anywhere on the property. We spend lots of time outdoors on the property working in the yard, hanging on the porch, etc. and have high sensitivity to these scents. Thank you kindly!
We strive to be green! Electricity in our house is 100% solar power. In general, we encourage you to keep your heat and air set in the `green zone`. You have full control of your climate with the two mini-splits located in the living area and bedroom. PLEASE NOTE: If you would like the bedroom to be a different temperature than the living areas, you must set the bedroom unit to your preferred temperature and KEEP THE BEDROOM DOOR CLOSED. Setting the bedroom at the lowest setting and the living room at the highest setting without closing the bedroom door will negate your efforts and puts undue stress on the units.
Please refrain from flying drones in our neighborhood. Many thanks!
Absolutely no visitors/guests who are not on original reservation.
Please do not flush anything down the toilet other than toilet paper and human waste.
Asheville City ordinance requires quiet hours starting at 11 PM. We ask that you observe quiet hours starting at 10PM Sun-Thurs as a courtesy to us. We live here and work early during the weekl. Thank you kindly!

About the host
Hosted by Kat
I am a native North Carolinian, raised in Charlotte and moved to the Appalachian Mountains in 1993. I have called Asheville home since 2003 and cannot imagine a more perfect place to live. My husband Benji and I are avid outdoor enthusiasts, always planning our next adventure on the river or in the woods. We are also just as happy tooling around town on our bikes, a favorite activity being tapas-hopping downtown for dinner - ask us about it! Why choose one restaurant in this foodie heaven when you can sample several in one night?? I have a passion for sharing this quirky little town with others - I am always happy to provide insider recommendations for food, beverage, outdoor adventure, and anything else you may need to know.
Why they chose this property
This is Asheville's best kept secret neighborhood! Totally safe, quiet part of town, situated between the downtown central business district and the iconic Grove Park Inn. Walk 5-10 minutes to several neighborhood restaurants, a wine shop, a butchery, and bakeries; walk 10 more minutes to downtown Asheville and all the vibrant offerings it has to share.
What makes this property unique
This property combines the best of both worlds - views and quiet you typically get being out in the mountains, but walkable to town in minutes.
