Cozy 1 bedroom riverfront cottage on Saint Helena Island with pool & beach pass
This is a very comfortable guest cottage with one bedroom, bathroom with large shower, kitchenette, living room, dock, screened-in porch, and swimming pool. A beach pass is provided for Hunting Island State Park as well as beach chairs and towels. "MarshSong" is named for the marsh which runs creekside along the front of the property, and makes "music" at low tide. This is an inspirational place for anyone who just wants to relax, or explore; a good central point for visiting Charleston and Savannah. You may want to lounge in the pool, watch birds that gather on the dock, sit and read a book by the marsh, or nap on the hanging bed on the porch. Rest, relax, recharge - nap on the hanging bed on the porch overlooking the water; sleep well.

A perfect retreat on St Helena. I can for an event at the Penn Center and was thrilled to get to stay at Marshsong and experience the full beauty of the island. Mary Ellen is an incredibly hospitable host - excellent communication, attention to details in the space and for her guests. I can’t wait to come back!

Sorry for the late response - it's been crazy busy here. It was delightful to have you here, please come back!
I didn't use the pool, though it was very inviting. The screened in area was charming & relaxing. The guest house was very clean & beautiful with very artsy detail. Lots of snacks were also provided. I saw deer daily. Mary Ellen was a wonderful host. Definitely a wonderful comfy stay.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Ellen Thompson
Originally from outside of Philadelphia, I've been in Beaufort for 26 years; it is a lovely community jam packed with creative people. I have been a writer for a local newspaper, magazine, and have done some travel writing, mostly about Savannah. Currently I'm an Associate Editor for Southern Literary Review which means I almost always have my nose in a book. Twice a year I host a Writer's Residency here for the Pat Conroy Literary Center. When I'm not reading, I have happy feet and love to travel.
Why they chose this property
Although only about ten minutes from downtown, and fifteen minutes from the beach, MarshSong is it's own oasis tucked away in a peaceful and tranquil setting.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property unique is something you will have to experience for yourself. Shared with only three neighbors, our contiguous properties cover 100 acres along the creek. Once a cotton plantation, this property was also home to indigenous Indians and sometimes you can find an ancient piece of pottery along the marsh at low tide. Chairs sit on a shell midden and if you listen carefully, you may hear whispers of elders. Wildlife runs freely and you will see deer, raccoons, possums, wood storks, osprey, eagles, herons, egrets, and painted buntings, to name a few. When the tide is right, you may see dolphins, otters, and minks.
