About the host
Hosted by Mary Ellen Thompson
Originally from outside of Philadelphia, I've been in Beaufort for 26 years; it is a lovely community jam packed with creative people.
I have been a writer for a local newspaper, magazine, and have done some travel writing, mostly about Savannah. Currently I'm an Associate Editor for Southern Literary Review which means I almost always have my nose in a book. Twice a year I host a Writer's Residency here for the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
When I'm not reading, I have happy feet and love to travel.

Why they chose this property
Although only about ten minutes from downtown, and fifteen minutes from the beach, MarshSong is it's own oasis tucked away in a peaceful and tranquil setting.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property unique is something you will have to experience for yourself. Shared with only three neighbors, our contiguous properties cover 100 acres along the creek. Once a cotton plantation, this property was also home to indigenous Indians and sometimes you can find an ancient piece of pottery along the marsh at low tide. Chairs sit on a shell midden and if you listen carefully, you may hear whispers of elders.
Wildlife runs freely and you will see deer, raccoons, possums, wood storks, osprey, eagles, herons, egrets, and painted buntings, to name a few. When the tide is right, you may see dolphins, otters, and minks.
