About this property

'Decked Out' Downeast, Versatile oceanfront accommodates small and large groups

Decked Out Down East

Located in the coastal Maine fishing village of Pigeon Hill, Decked Out Down East overlooks a cobble beach and protected bay with views of the open ocean, islands, and a lighthouse in the distance. While relaxing on one of the two large decks, you can watch lobster men pull their traps and eagles and ospreys fish the incoming tide. The ever-changing views of water, wildlife, and sky will captivate you. This is the perfect place for a quiet, intimate vacation with family or friends. Nature feels close at hand. Located at the gateway to the Bold Coast, hiking, biking, boating, and outdoor experiences abound.

Decked Out is a self-catering house divided into two apartments or flats if you will; one upstairs and one downstairs. Families or groups of friends can spend time together and share a vacation experience but also have the option of private space. Alternatively, we will rent just one unit at a time to smaller groups of 2 or 4. Four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, two complete kitchens, two separate living rooms, and two wrap-around decks give vacationers ample space and amenities to relax. The interior is bright and clean. Both living rooms have gas fireplaces for warmth and ambiance. The main living area in the upper unit has an open floor plan and is designed to take full advantage of the ocean view. French doors open to the second floor deck. Whether you are enjoying a casual breakfast at the kitchen counter or sipping a drink on the deck outside, you will find yourself drawn to the dynamic patterns of color and texture in the bay.

Sleeping accommodations include two bedrooms with queen beds and two bedrooms with twin beds. The master bedroom has a private bathroom with a shower. Other amenities include generous closet space, two-zone gas heat, two dishwashers, microwaves, internet access, and central vacuuming. The utility room has a washer and dryer and ample space for storing wet clothing and outdoor gear. The level back yard provides room for outdoor games as well.

Decked Out is located in Down East Maine where the beautiful coastline remains uncrowded and unspoiled. One can explore little fishing villages, rocky beaches, and spectacular cliffs along the Bold Coast. Nearby, the Schoodic Peninsula portion of Acadia National Park offers spectacular views of the Maine Coast with crashing surf, lobster boats, and soaring sea birds. Driving or bicycling the 20-mile, one-way paved loop road allows one to breathe in the fresh, salty Maine air. A passenger ferry from Winter Harbor takes tourists over to the shopping and eating experience of the fabled Bar Harbor with its many varied attractions.

Closer to home you can launch a canoe or a kayak right out front. The gravel and cobble beach is firm allowing access to the water at virtually all tide levels. There is also a paved boat ramp a quarter mile down the road. Explore the many walking trails available throughout the nearby Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge. Three short scenic hikes are available within one mile of Decked Out with many others throughout the region.

And of course lobsters and seafood are available at several local establishments. No visit is complete without enjoying fresh lobster rolls and haddock burgers.

Perfect downeast vacation

The property, home and location were perfect for our extended family vacation. We were very pleased with the cleanliness, tasteful decor and ample variety of extra supplies provided- ie. Books, lobster crackers, plug in pancake griddle, local maps and brochures, kids beach toys, binoculars and more. The proximity to the beach and local hikes made it easy to find things to do nearby. Oh- and Bud, from across the street, even caught us lobster right in the bay for dinner one night! I highly recommend this to families and friends who enjoy the peaceful outdoors that Maine offers.

Absolutely perfect!

If you want a relaxing vacation with close access to the best lobster rolls, this is your place. These folks have thoughtfully set up their home with your comfort in mind. Sitting out on the top deck watching the tides and ever changing landscape was the best medicine for a stressful life. Definitely hike up Pigeon Hill, the views are incredible. Also, check out the tidal falls down the road in Hancock. They are way more exciting than any tidal bore we’ve seen on the Bay of Fundy. Overall the perfect vacation. I would recommend this place to all of my friends and family.

Great stay in Steuben

Our stay at Decked Out Down East was fantastic. Gorgeous views coupled with peace, quiet, and relaxation. The location was central to all that our family wanted to do. We visited family to the north, and Bar Harbor to the South. We especially enjoyed several of the local trails. One of our favorite things to see was the ever changing tide. We also enjoyed the wildlife. One evening, while sitting on the top deck, we watched an eagle fly over the shoreline across the street. Finally, the food. We found so many great little places to eat our fill of the delicious, fresh seafood that Maine has to offer, from lobster to wrinkles. What a great vacation.

We Will Return

Decked Out Down East was the perfect getaway for a family who loves the Maine coast and believes memories are made on a deck overlooking the water - on the upper deck sipping coffee as the lobster boats chug by; or evening celebration of hours hiking and exploring, followed by open jaw amazement at seeing the Milky Way so clearly; on the lower deck, snoozing in the canvas swings, playing corn hole with the grandchildren or just escaping the chaos on the side porch. The physical setup was perfect for us - plenty of bathrooms (NOT easy to find in Maine). There are two kitchens, so my husband and I, on the lower level, were able to have that first cup of coffee in relative peace. Having two refrigerators was a dream for a family who loves to cook and drink (kitchen equipment is very good). The home is immaculate; beds are comfortable; air circulation very good, ceiling fans throughout. The house is located close to so much - walks on the rocky beach, hikes in one of the many conserved areas, a fabulous lobster pound, a nearby town with a full market, great takeout including seafood, Portugese, Mexican, fire roasted pizza. Schoodic Peninsula, part of Acadia National Park, is only 30 minutes away. Barbor Harbor and Mt Desert Island can be reached within an hour or so by ferry (in Winter Harbor, a great village, or car. The only surprise was there are properties close on each side. However, we never felt our privacy was compromised; and we met some very nice locals! The owner was so very patient with my multiple communications, mostly due to Covid-19. We are in Ohio where numbers crept up and testing availability went down as the date for our vacation drew near. Thanks to the Maine CDC and Health Department, I found out they have established a drive up testing site in York. I also felt reassured by the owner's interest in our group to be sure the house would be a good fit for us. We will return next year to refresh our spirits and create new memories! Thank you for sharing DODE with our family.

Another beautiful stay in Steuben, ME

This was our family’s second time visiting and what an amazing time!! We had previously stayed in 2017 and our children were begging to return to the “rock beach.” We love this house in particular because the set up is great-my dad stays in the downstairs quarters and my husband/myself/two kids stay upstairs-it did not disappoint! We spent our time enjoying the house/decks/beach, hiking closeby (pigeon hill and Hollingsworth trail) and drove to Schoodic Point (our absolute favorite). The kids also insisted on driving to Acadia for the day (70m) so we could redo some favorites from previous trips. We loved dining at Pickled Wrinkle and Corea Wharf again too.

Exactly what we were hoping to find

First, let me say the booking process was simple and quick. Noelle replied promptly and paved the way for a relaxing, stress-free vacation. My husband and I were looking to get out of our four walls and get into open spaces, fresh sea air, and places to explore - all while staying safe through the pandemic. Decked Out was all that. The house sits 5 miles off Rt. 1 and is just secluded enough to feel a world away from the anxiety of life in 2020. We happened to be there on a moonless night, and I was able to see the stunning Milky Way. The house was immaculately clean. We occupied the top floor which has a very large open kitchen with every pot, pan, utensil and tool we could possibly need. There is a queen bed, large closet and ensuite bathroom with shower stall in the master bedroom, twin beds in the second bedroom and a large hall bathroom with tub/shower. Two comfortable wing chairs and a futon loveseat in the living room, with a gas fireplace which we only used once, on a chilly, windy day. The deck looks out to a serene water view and has a dining table with two comfortable chairs, two Adirondack chairs and two loungers. The large, airy laundry/mudroom on the first floor has excellent appliances. You can enter the upstairs unit via this room or up the outside staircase. We left our shoes downstairs to avoid scratching the beautiful hardwood floors. We were a regular customer at Chipman's Wharf, buying lobsters, halibut, salmon and crab right off the boat. We did a daytrip along the Bold Coast Scenic Byway and had lunch at the wharf in Lubec. If you go, stop at Monica's Chocolates just before town; Peruvian Monica has a wonderful mix or handmade chocolates, jewelry and alpaca sweaters. Another day was spent on the Schoodic Peninsula, climbing over the rugged rocks at Schoodic Point, browsing at Artists & Artisans in Winter Harbor, visiting the scenic village of Corea, and having an early dinner at the Pickled Wrinkle. We hiked to the top of Pigeon Hill and visited MDI as well. There is so much to see and do that we were sorry we didn't book two weeks here. There's always next year! Thank you, Noelle, for sharing your lovely home with strangers. Decked Out is perfection.

Unbeatable views!

We had a lovely time at “Decked Out” in Steuben, Maine. The location was perfect with beautiful wraparound decks on two floors that gave us spectacular views of the bay during the day and breathtaking views of the star-filled sky at night. The area is perfect for relaxing. Convenient to gorgeous coastal drives, charming towns, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, the freshest lobster literally right off the boat, and other culinary delights. Nothing fancy. Very chill. Exactly what we were looking for!!

Perfect vacation !!!!!

My family and I have vacationed in Maine many times over the years. Noelle and Dave have graciously opened their home and my family and I agree that this has been the best vacation ever: The location, the local food, the magnificent views - I don't know where to begin! First we noted the beauty of the home, next the immaculate condition in which everything is kept, then there is the awsome sunshine and blue skys that come into the home every morning - it just makes you smile - all day long!! I have to mention the fantastic kitchen and how well is is supplied with everything. We are a family of cooks and bakers and we loved the setup. The washroom on the first floor is spaceous. You can take off your shoes before going into the rest of the home - how clever is that? multiple bathrooms and bedrooms made our stay so comfortable . Goodtimes were had by all each night when we played cards and bord games on the table each night listening to the gulls and ocean outside. Noelle and Dave answered all my questions before our trip and could not have been more helpful with tips on where to kayak and hike . This was a week well spent. Noelle and Dave- thank you for sharing !

Rest, relaxation and discovery

Enjoyed the property and the serene views. We had one more day of sunny weather than rainy days. It was pleasant to do some day away and then return to the comforts of the property. Introduced our small grandchildren to the beauty of the Maine cost. Would do it again. Thanks for everything. The neighbors we talked with were friendly to us . Views are outstanding and our needs were well taken care of.

We had a great time. The house was perfect for extended family. You can be together when you want and be seperate when you need some space. The view was amazing. The location was quiet and calming. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats pulling traps. We took in a boat tour, did some wine tasting, visited bar harbor, and enjoyed some family time. We loved this house and location.

Ideal location, beautiful view, easy access to the wonders of Downeast Maine!

Loved our stay at Decked Out Downeast! The house was clean and beautifully maintained; it had everything we needed to enjoy our visit. We loved hanging out on the deck with its fabulous view of the water. Even a few days of fog and rain brought their own kind of beauty. A highlight for us was several hiking trails through conservancy areas within walking distance (or an easy drive) of the house, as well as ready access to the "less visited" parts of Acadia on the Schoodic peninsula. We took the ferry one day over to Bar Harbor and enjoyed poking around the shops, but most of the time we stayed close to "home." All in all a perfect place for our vacation -- we hope to return again!

Perfect Location for a Maine Family Getaway

This was our second family vacation to Maine from the Philadelphia area. We have two kids 6,3 and my 60yr old father and found "Decked Out" to be the perfect fit for us--house-wise AND location. We had our family dinners upstairs, and the kids woke up and went down for breakfast with PopPop and let us sleep in--it was fabulous!!! The kiddos wanted to be across from a rock beach, and boy did they enjoy going down several times a day. Just down the road, Pigeon Hill is a great hike-what a view from the top! We LOVED driving just 5 minutes from the house for a hike in the preserve for blueberries (made pancakes the next morning) and the view from McClennan Park was also gorgeous and easy for my dad (no hiking). We saw a pour at the US bell foundry about 25 minutes away and also ate at Corea wharf gallery grill which was delicious (Wrinkled Pickle was also great!)! We had "star parties" at night with my son and the kids sang to the snails they found. Noelle and David's house was perfect!!! The document they provide beforehand with information about the area is so thorough and helpful! I even emailed Noelle a few times with specific questions regarding kids and she helped me with some input which was so kind!! It genuinely feels that they want their guests to have the best vacation they can have! All the little touches around the house (I wont name them all, but we LOVED all the Maine themed picture books and I read one of the novels) really made it even more special for us. My kids have talked about "our Maine house" about everyday since we've been home. I've already recommended the house to friends and will continue to do so!!!

Just What We Needed

The bright and cheery home we rented for a week in July was absolutely wonderful. The separate living spaces worked perfectly for my family and my relatives. We had our own space, yet were able to enjoy one another as well. The area...Wow! Maine is gorgeous, but this area in particular quickly stole our hearts. From hiking the spectacular trails only a quick walk away, to sitting on the porch, or to traveling to Campebello in Canada or Acadia, we were never far from a memorable view or moment. The owners were exceptional to work with. They made sure we had all the information to travel safely to the house as well as a handy resource for must do's around the area, plus the house was full of travel info and books to acquaint ourselves with the area. I am so glad we chose this place to get away from the crowds of Acadia (which was still only a quick, scenic drive). My only complaint was we had to leave :)

Plenty of space for the 8 of us (2 families). It had everything we needed.

We enjoyed taking the canoe out, and riding bikes (2 at house) around the area and out at Schoonic point. We loved Acadia and hiking there. The Beehive hike was a highlight and a challenge. We also enjoyed day trips to go whitewater rafting, and to Bar Harbor and nearby towns. We loved the view from Pigeon Hill. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

The DeMarco Family Maine Getaway

Stayed for a week recently with extended family. The house was exactly as described in a beautiful waterfront location with all the amenities we needed to cook meals large and small. Everything was neat and clean and there was plenty of room for all with two separate living quarters. David and Noelle were extremely helpful in providing a lot of information about the area. We had great fun exploring Acadia, Schoodic Point, Petit Manan Refuge and Bar Harbor. Don't miss The Milbridge House for breakfast and lunch. We bought lobster and crab at Chipmans Wharf and it was great! We highly recommend "Decked Out" , especially for large families like ours. Perfect!! Peggy & Don DeMarco, Kingston, PA

Incredible, peaceful Decked Out Down East

Our first time to visit the great state of Maine. The house met our expectations and was precisely as advertised. The pictures of the house were accurate, and, if anything, the actual house and area was nicer than the pictures show. The owners were delightful, answering any questions we had and were quick to respond. There was quite a bit of information at the house about the area. The views of the bay were very peaceful and the general area where the house lies was quiet with little traffic. The location was a little off the beaten path, but that was what we were looking for and loved it. We ate in most nights and the kitchen was well stocked. We cooked local lobster once which was a new experience for us and we had everything we needed for it to be a successful dining experience. One night the sky was very clear and we enjoyed laying on the upper deck staring up at the Milky Way looking for shooting stars. Some of the areas we explored were Acadia, Schoodic point, and Campobello Island. Being off the main road meant driving to get places, but the scenery was beautiful most everywhere we went which made the driving simply another part of experiencing Maine. We enjoyed unwinding and relaxing while mixing it up with exploring. All in all, the location, the house, the upper part of Maine were all incredible and left us wanting to visit again some day.

Decked out Down East Delightful!

This is a welcoming and relaxing place to spend a vacation, away from the crowds and out in nature. Watching the tides, seeing the Milky Way, getting lobster fresh off the boats and hiking along blueberry filelds. It just doesn't get any better than Decked Out Down East!

Absolutely wonderful!

So many things to say! The house was completely spotless upon arrival. It has such a gorgeous view of the water. The owners of the home are so helpful and have so much information about the area. Acadia, which we visited about three times for hikes and such was only about an hour drive away as well as Bar Harbor! There are even some trails further down the road from the house that are part of the Petit Manon wildlife refuge which was really fun to explore. We had a seafood night which went so smoothly thanks to all of the amenities in the kitchen. The town of Milbridge is where the nearest grocery store is which is only a 10 minute drive. Theres also an amazing little coffee shop near the grocery store that had great food and drinks as well as many homemade trinkets for sale. A few nights we even set off fireworks on the beach! Just be ready to have limited cell service. But honestly, being in the beautiful house on the ocean, you won't want to be attached to your phone very much. The best feature of the home is the two separate floors. With there being a living room and kitchen on both floors it makes it ideal for families. Or in my case, my friends and I had a space to hang out and cook and drink in the middle of the night while my parents had there own quiet space. I can't recommend this home enough!

Best vacation ever!

Our family of 7 stayed a week at Decked Out and couldn't have asked for nicer people to work with or a nicer place to stay! This house is fabulous with all the comforts of home and more! The location is perfect for day trips to Schoodic Point, Acadia, Eastport, Quoddy Head lighthouse and so much right within walking distance! Can't wait to go back! We will miss sitting on the deck and looking out at the ocean from the upstairs living area. Absolutely loved it!

An Authentic Maine Experience ...

My husband and I recently had the good fortune to have a short stay at Decked Out. We were enchanted from the moment we turned onto Pigeon Cove Rd. The coastline that day was shrouded in a light fog, but you could still make out the coves, inlets, and land formations. The unmistakable briny scent in the air told you that you were near pristine Maine waters with its teeming plant and animal life. And hearing the Petit Manan lighthouse horn sound in the distance just added to the atmosphere. The cobbled beach is just steps away from the house, and our stay included a leisurely walk along the beach, a perfect spot to carry down a picnic, enjoy an evening sunset, or catch the famous night skies of this region. Although we couldn't fit in boating into our visit, there are clearly many opportunities for sailors and kayakers to launch in the many private inlets or wildlife preserves. And speaking of, nearby Eagle Hill is a must see for those who love the back trails, beautiful vistas, or watching night skies. The casual but decidedly upscale Aerie Restaurant on the premises would be lovely spot for a special night out. During our stay, we also took the opportunity to explore some neighboring towns, taking in a Farmers' Market, a few gift shops, and a wonderful art opening with wine and cheese at the local library on Saturday night. Extra fun was buying fresh eggs from a local farm just a mile or two away, and having them for our breakfast the next day. Decked Out was spotlessly clean, and has all the amenities one might need. The hosts have put together a helpful binder with more activities than one could ever do in a week's time. Beds and baths were spacious and comfy, and the living/dining area overlooks the beach and cove. Two huge wrap around decks provide additional space for dining, reading, and relaxing. Although we were not with extended family, the unique aspect of Decked Out is its ability to host two families or two (or more) couples, allowing for common areas, but also space and privacy for each. Its location on the Petit Manan Peninsula will allow you to experience one of the true remaining pristine parts of our country ~ authentic, unspoiled Maine.

Epic

I would have to call this vacation epic! All week, the food was great and the people were extremely friendly (starting with Noelle and David). The entire location couldn't have been more comfortable. This well decorated and clean house is equipped with everything one would need and a bit more. While there, we used their spotting scope, scanner and binoculars. There are lots of pamphlets, Down East magazines and books. Had to use the field guide to determine that it really was an immature bald eagle we saw! Evenings were spent by the seven of us around the dinner table playing board games. I immensely enjoyed just sitting: on the deck, down on the rocks by the bay, in any chair I could find. The calming sounds of small waves lapping on the rocks and boats moving up and down the bay made this week for me. There was a fragrant odor of balsam floating up and down the driveway at various times of the day. Plus, there is a lot to explore. Several trails are in the area, but really enjoyed Birch Point and Hollingsworth in Petit Manan. Blueberries were ready for picking and that we did! If you want to take the time to just relax, immerse yourself in the charm of small town New England and get away from it all, then this is your place. If you need a dose of hectic life, Bangor and Bar Harbor are a little over an hour away. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

A slice of heaven

This is the perfect place to spend some time unwinding. Each time I thought about something we had to do back home or some potentially stressful situation, my husband reminded me to look outside and take in the view of the water, boats, birds and trees. It is impossible not to be relaxed here. We cook often and well, and the kitchen provided everything we needed to prepare fine dinners. You may be able to find a finer dinner venue than this house, but you would surely pay dearly for it. There are plenty of outdoor activities from biking and hiking, and blueberry picking (in August) and of course time on the water. Bring your kayak; throw it in and you will be out for the whole day. We were joined by some friends who appreciated that they could dine with us and play with us, and still have their own space and time when desired.

Amazing vacation and home

We got more than what we could have expected from the owners of this property. The home was impeccably clean and beautiful. The owners of the property went above and beyond for our entire vacation. They not only ensured that we had everything we needed for the home they also took the time to ensure that we were prepared for all the possibilities open to us in the area. We loved the fresh seafood, the hiking, and the local people were very pleasant. If you are looking for a beautiful home, with amazing views, serenity, and (my favorite part) peace and quiet I would recommend this home. Thank you again.

We have been exploring and enjoying Petit Manan Peninsula in all seasons for nearly sixty years. We got married at the small stone chapel, All Souls by the Sea, “out the point” not far from the house. In 2013, we finally purchased our dream home and we are excited to be able to share it with you. We think you will be charmed by this unique corner of Maine.

Why they chose this property

The commanding water views and proximity to a variety of nature activities make this house the perfect get-away for one or more families to enjoy a relaxing Downeast Maine experience.

What makes this property unique

Two distinct living areas for families or groups of friends vacationing together provide enough space for communal activities as well as separate kitchens and sleeping spaces, if needed. Can also accommodate special interest group retreats (e.g. yoga, writers, artists, photographers, etc.)
