This "Weekend at the Lake" was a disaster. Before booking, I asked the host if the lake was good for swimming. The host replied "There is some algae around the shore but I think it's perfectly fine for swimming. Me and my kids swim there". I booked the property. The morning of my stay, I asked the host if I could use the dock and the lake before check-in time because I wanted to float on the water and get some sun. They said that would be fine but said nothing about the state of the water. When I arrived the algae was so thick I could practically walk on it and it extended beyond the dock, which shook with every step I took. I tried to make the best of it, but by whole reason for booking the stay was to float on the lake on an air mattress. I tried to to do that for a short while and just couldn't. It was so disgusting and toxic. I went into the cabin, showered, packed my belongings and left. I messaged the host about my departure and sent photos of the green lake. When I requested information on a refund, the host said there was nothing wrong with the cabin and they allowed me early access to the lake so there would be no refund. I sent them photos of the lake and asked them if they would swim in this with their children. I contacted VRBO Cares. The man who took my call was very helpful but the hosts and his supervisor would not offer any type of full or partial refund. They gave me 200 in VRBO bucks for my next stay. Not sure I'll be using that.
