THINGS TO DO:
Wineries
Within .3 miles to 15 miles you’ll run into (15) wineries. Here are some: Naked Mountain, Arterra Wines, Fox Meadows winery, Linden Vineyards, Chateau O’Brien At North Point, Delaplane Cellars, Leeds Manor Vineyard, Blue Valley Vineyard And Winery, RdV Vineyards, Barrel Oak Winery, Silver Dog Vineyards, Slater Run Vineyards, Bluemont Vineyards, Twin Oaks Tavern Winery, Green Hill Vineyards, Sunshine Ridge Farm winery, Red Vineyard, Bear Chase Bluemont and MT Defiance Cidery and Distillery. There is a new one that just opened in Linden called Crimson Lane Vineyards that was just featured by Washingtonian Magazine and has 5.0 ratings (please note: it requires reservations prior to taste). There are also (2) distilleries close by as well. Two Silos Brewery off Rt 234 where Rt 28 crosses in Manassas. Relax, eat, drink, and be merry my friends because you are in the heart of wine and horse country! There are so many wineries, Google wineries and Brewery’s when at the nest (Virginiawine.org) and they will come up.
Restaurants
There are some great dining options less than 20 minutes away including: the famous Apple House for breakfast (Linden), Hunter’s Head Tavern (Upperville), Red Fox Inn & Tavern (Middleburg), Salamander (Middleburg), L’Auberge Provençale (Boyce), Field & Main (Marshall), Red Bar Sushi (Middleburg), (Knead Wine, Middleburg, has really great pizza with Paired wines), Best Thai Kitchen (Middleburg), Oyster Bar has happy hour every week day, (Middleburg), The Rail Stop (Marshall), (Old Salem Café Marshall, have the best burgers) The Ashby Inn (Paris), The Melting Pot (Front Royal), The Red Truck Bakery (Marshall), Tremolo (Middleburg – wine and apps) Red Truck Bakery (Marshall), Blue Door (Flint Hill), Lone Oak Tavern (Boyce), The Buttery at Locke (Millwood)
Farmer’s Market
Located in The Plains 15 minutes away is a great farmer’s market called Archwood Green Barns Farmer’s Market just off Route 66. It is only open Sunday from 10AM – 2PM but is worth the trip if you like fresh food, bread, and meats. They even have some vendors who sell goods.
Hiking
Just across the road there are two entrances to G. F. Thompson Wildlife Management Area (4000 acres of hiking and fishing) including part of the Appalachian Trail (1 mile either direction). Five miles away is Sky Meadows State Park with 22 miles of trails as well as horseback riding trails and fishing. At Shenandoah National Park (27 miles) there are a bunch of hiking trails ranging from the novice (moderate 1 hour hikes) to expert (strenuous 7 hours hikes!)

Note:
Stink Bugs
If you see one in the window in the kitchen, I have a small Vacuum by the window and if you be so kind as to suck them up so they don't smell. You don’t want to swat them for they will stink. That's what I get for living by so many Orchards. Speaking of Orchards there are two at the bottom of 688 before Rt.66 Stribbling Orchards, and Heartland over the railroad tracks 688. They have apples, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, jams, honey, pumpkins, and all kinds of goodies (depending on the season).
