About the host
Hosted by Carol Hanson
Hi, we’re Chris & Lisa, creators of Jade and Aurora.
We design spaces for comfort, relaxation, and connection. What began as a love for mountain retreats has grown into cabins that feel meaningful, welcoming, and inspiring.
Aurora - in Fairbanks was born from a lifelong fascination with Alaska and the Northern Lights. We appreciate this may be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for you, and we honor that in every thoughtful detail.
Why they chose this property
Aurora sits on China Ridge above the Fairbanks valley's winter fog inversion layer. That means clearer skies for Northern Lights, with significantly cleaner air than most Fairbanks properties. This also means winter temperatures average 20 degrees warmer than the valley floor. And when EPA burn regulations cancel wood fires down in the city you can still enjoy a cozy fire in the pellet stove up here.
Better views. Warmer temps. Cleaner air - Aurora delivers all three
What makes this property unique
Aurora sits on China Ridge above the Fairbanks valley's winter fog inversion layer. Cleaner air, Clearer skies, with winter temperatures that average 20 degrees warmer than the valley floor below.
The heated outdoor dome is the crown jewel. A fully enclosed dome that becomes your midnight sun lounge in summer and a cozy Aurora lounge in winter.
Your stay includes a 5-day Alaska-focused meal plan with recipes and shopping lists, including our signature Aurora Glow cocktail, Aurora hot cocoa recipe, along with a comprehensive seasonal guidebook covering every local event and hidden gem.
This is not just a place to sleep between activities. It is a fully curated Alaska experience built for guests who have been dreaming about an Alaska experience their whole lives.
