The fully operational farm “Bio-Hof am Deich,” which specialises in organic dairy and livestock farming (Bioland-certified!), is located in “Elisabethgroden” in Wangerland, very close to the North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel.



Our farm is situated in a very peaceful location in the vast, fresh East Frisian marshlands, surrounded by lush meadows and fields, between the dike and the “Schlafdeich,” right on the edge of the “Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park,” an UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2009.
A short distance north of our farm lies the outer dike, and beyond it, the sea. A short distance to the south lies the “Schlafdeich”—the old dike that, following land reclamation over the past few centuries, is now situated some distance inland and no longer serves a direct coastal protection function. That’s why it’s also called the “Schlafdeich”—because it has, so to speak, found its peace.
So, between these two dikes, our farm is situated on the “polder”—the land reclaimed from the sea by earlier generations—which will offer you a truly unique scenic experience during your holiday.
Here at the “Organic Farm by the Dike,” three spacious, cosy, brightly furnished, and fully equipped holiday apartments await our guests and their children, from which they can see the dike and watch the cows grazing in our pastures. The apartments measure approximately 65, 85, and 95 square metres and offer plenty of space for two to five or two to four people, plus an additional toddler. An unusually unobstructed view all around the farm, stretching out over vast open countryside, awaits you—something you’ve surely never experienced before.
In the beautiful, sunny garden in front of our house, you can enjoy the incredible tranquility and the wonderfully fresh East Frisian air.
The “Bio-Hof am Deich” is an active dairy farm—interesting, modern, and steeped in East Frisian tradition all at once. We have cows and their offspring—calves and young cattle. We also have two cats and guinea pigs. So there’s plenty to see and do on a real farm.
, Once you’ve managed to tear yourself and the kids away from our farm and the magnificent expanse of fields and meadows, be sure to visit the beautiful North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel nearby.
Carolinensiel-Harlesiel offers a wide range of holiday activities for children and parents. For example, there’s the “Haus des Gastes” and the “Cliner Quelle” spa centre, which offer a wide range of swimming, entertainment, and relaxation activities. For example, parents can read in peace while their children are looked after by experienced staff.
The museum harbour is a real gem, and there you’ll be treated to fine East Frisian seafood cuisine at various restaurants and cafés.
At the Museum Harbour, you can enjoy the view of the old ships, the harbour promenade with its cafés, tea rooms, and restaurants, as well as the paddle steamer “Concordia II,” a replica of the old “Concordia I” from 1854. This paddle steamer operates a shuttle service on the Tief, taking you from the museum harbour past the “Haus des Gastes,” through the Friedrichsschleuse lock, and on to the marina in Harlesiel on the North Sea.
Of course, the whole family loves going to the beautiful beach here, but you can also go swimming at the saltwater indoor pool (paddling pool, sauna, tanning beds, beauty and wellness area, and the popular “Moonlight Swim” once a week). Or, in the summer, you can visit the heated seawater outdoor pool in Harlesiel. For children, growing teens, and really the whole family, there’s the “Happy Family Club” with programmes and plenty of ideas. On holiday in Carolinensiel, there’s always something to do—whether it’s sports and games, entertainment, or relaxation.
Of course, “Caro”—as the locals affectionately call this beautiful town—also has everything you need for daily life: supermarkets large and small, a pharmacy, a bakery, a hair salon, a savings bank, and many shops with a wide selection of seaside trinkets—or, very importantly, swimming costumes, sun cream, and a shovel for the beach.
A day trip to one of the East Frisian islands is always a special recommendation; from here, the best option is to head from Harlesiel to Wangerooge with its beautiful lighthouse. Or you can simply take off from our small airfield for a sightseeing flight over the dikes, the North Sea, and the islands.
Elisabethgroden is part of the Wangerland joint municipality, which has a lot to offer tourists. In our immediate vicinity, there are a number of excellent seafood restaurants and many other tourist attractions.
You’ll also find plenty of shopping options nearby in the climatic health resort of “Hohenkirchen,” the heart of the Wangerland region. There you’ll also find the “Nordsee Spielstadt Wangerland,” a large recreational area with many attractions for all ages.
The best way to reach the beautiful, expansive sandy beach at “Schillig” is probably by bike on a scenic ride along the dike. The North Sea spa resort “Horumersiel-Schillig” is about 15 kilometres away and is one of Germany’s most popular holiday destinations. Here you’ll find a comprehensive range of tourist attractions, including the “Friesland-Therme,” an adventure and leisure water park. This facility is fed by a 160-meter-deep brine well. The spa also features a sauna area with a log cabin sauna, a Finnish sauna, a steam room, and a sauna garden. Guests can access the spacious outdoor area via a sort of canal. The outdoor pool is open year-round!
Hooksiel is a bit further away. From Hooksiel, you can go on a deep-sea fishing trip or explore the historic town centre with its listed harbour, or visit the former town hall with its striking onion-domed tower, now used as an artists’ house. Hooksiel used to be an important transshipment port for the town of “Jever” and is now also an attractive tourist destination—for example, featuring a large, fine-sand beach (with a naturist section), a seawater indoor wave pool, and a playhouse for guests and children.
One of the largest land reclamation projects in Germany ever created approximately 240 hectares of land east of Hooksiel for a large recreational area. Here lies a 60-hectare artificial inland lake, known as the “Hooksmeer.” The “Hooksmeer” features a sailing school, pedal boat rentals, a surfing bay with a surf school, marinas, and a fantastic water ski lift. You’ll also find hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, a trotting track, tennis courts, and much more at the “Hooksmeer.”
At the “Bio-Hof am Deich,” you can enjoy a peaceful holiday and truly unwind. And you can take advantage of a wide range of great holiday activities available in the immediate vicinity. If you like, you can experience something different every day. Or you can simply take a short bike ride through the beautiful meadows, fields, and pastures, or sit in the garden to read, have a barbecue, or simply relax while sunbathing. It’s entirely up to you.
