Private Pool Home Spectacular Sunsets Steps from the Beaches & StarLink Internet
Your search for the PERFECT beach vacation house is over with your search for "Captiva Isles on North Captiva Island, FL". We can't wait to see your Face after you decide to Book and arrive at our island paradise and see our home!
North Captiva Island is a truly wonderful and pristine location. We CALL it the perfect place as our second home and we hope you will CALL it that too! And we list in multiple locations for Florida at less expensive rates for CaptivaIsles.
Captiva Isles is a lovingly decorated Florida beach cottage just 200 feet from the beach with spectacular, unblocked Gulf of Mexico views. Our fully air conditioned home offers three bedrooms and two and a half baths, with an open-concept living room/dining room/kitchen on the top floor. Experience sunset views over the Gulf of Mexico from your upstairs sundeck and screened-in porch in a comfortable rocking chair or at the outdoor dining table. Or if sunrises are your thing, head over to the east-end of the airstrip and beach for morning sunrises over Pine Island Sound.
And our own 12'x24' private heated in-ground pool with a huge deck for sunbathing and just lounging!
We are located on the bridge-less barrier island of North Captiva, on the Gulf of Mexico, only a 30 minute boat ride from the mainland. The boat ride is one of the best parts of your adventure, getting into island-time, especially for the kids (or those of us that are still kids at heart)!
The Island is approximately four miles long and half a mile at its width. Nearly two-thirds of the island's 700 acres is a protected State Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, open to the public free of charge year-round. Around the island waters or the Preserve, you are likely to see manatees, dolphins at play, gopher tortoises, and bald eagles, pelicans and ospreys flitting around. If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the elusive Florida bobcat! You will absolutely enjoy all that we have to offer, since we are home to over 100 species of migratory birds and NO venomous snakes!
With our white sandy beaches stretching over 3 miles, our island paradise offers long, romantic walks and great shelling opportunities that the Kalusa Indians shelled hundreds of years ago. Privacy and seclusion is the way of life. There are no cars on the island and transportation is by golf cart, which is included in your rental.
Captiva Isles's living room is fully equipped with a flat screen TV with satellite DishTV. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and a large selection of dishware, flatware, and cooking utensils.
Dock space, boats, kayaks, paddleboards, bikes and fishing gear are also available for rental.
Just pack your shorts and bathing suits .... everything is casual for your stay in our island paradise!

Love July 4th Fireworks on the island at Mainstay
This is our 3d time at this house for July 4th and the first time that the Mainstay restaurant/bar did fireworks during the holiday and our kids LOVED it. We love the house and pool, couldn't be better for us.

Great house, great location
Perfect size for our extended family of 6, the house had plenty of room to spread out only two houses from the beach. Our parents and our children had their private spaces in the bedrooms, especially the main bedroom's sitting room for a "great escape", as well as having the pool right at the house. Other than lunches and dinners at Mainstay, we never had to use the provided golf cart ... walks on the beach were wonderful!
Hope to come back next summer!

Great house close to beach, loved the pool!
The house was very clean and comfortable. Having the pool below our bedroom window allowed us to spend time relaxing around the pool and still be able to hear the baby when she woke from her haps. Tanya and Bill were quick to respond to all of our questions .. great hosts!

Pleasantly surprised after the bad reviews
After reading the recent reviews and comments from past renters, we were hesitant to book. After booking, Tanya & Bill were very open about the complaints that they received after guests threatened bad reviews if they wouldn't provide 50% or higher refunds.
The house was in very good repair and Tortuga was responsive to our questions, both before we arrived and afterwards.

Neglect & Disrepair
Pictures on the website are old. Property is in disrepair. Pool heater doesn't work. Thermostat is locked. Property manager is understaffed and unresponsive. Patio door is missing handles. Bed sheets and comforters stained. Kitchen utensils old, rusted and melted. Even the golf cart is damaged... missing lights for night drive. When flushing toilets or using the laundry, loud noises sound like a barge coming into a harbor! Internet is not even at dial up speeds... impossible to stream anything. So plan to use a DVD if the tv works. On a positive note, you're a short walk away from the beach and beautiful sunsets.
My family and I have been vacationing on North Captiva Island for years. This is our 6th time to the island. We have never had such a disappointing experience. I wish I would have taken the prior review for this property more seriously, but we were outside of our refund window and after being reassured by the property manager we proceeded with our trip. Upon arrival to the island, Duncan with Tortuga Properties was to meet us and take us to our rental. We waited for over an hour with our groceries sitting in the hot sun . He didn't respond to our texts or phone calls and his voice mail was full. When we finally arrived at our house, he didn't walk the property with us or leave us with a golf cart. (He did drop off a golf cart a couple hours later, it had maintenance issues - not safe to drive on the bumpy sand paths of the island). It was obvious that the house had not been freshened up since the last cleaning. There were dead bugs everywhere, hair in the showers, dried crusty food on the frig handle and dried food on the outdoor table & filthy carpet. Mold and mildew was covering the walls of the screened porch, the outside walls, and the inside and outside of the windows. We looked for cleaning supplies to clean up and discovered we were left with none. I was able to contact Duncan later in the day to let him know we weren't pleased with the condition of the property and requested needed supplies and a different golf cart. He assured me he would bring supplies and a new golf cart by the end of the day, as well as send a cleaning crew first thing in the morning. He did not do any of those. We ended up leaving the property at 11 am the following day and moving to a different property.
We communicated with the owners, who were responsive, but did not accept any responsibility for the misrepresentation of their property. We were hopeful since we stayed one night and left because of the poor condition that we would be able to negotiate some form of refund. Again, with no acceptance of responsibility for the misrepresentation of their listing, they did finally agree to refund $982.97 for the meet & greet fees and the local taxes, reminding us that they did not have to do any of that and kept the $2,500 for the rental. This listing is not VRBO quality. It's more like a Motel 6. I do not recommend this property.

Extremely disappointed in this misrepresented listing
I HIGHLY URGE any potential renter to read this review before considering this property!!!
We have traveled and stayed in many vrbos so I believe we had very realistic expectations. We understand North Captiva is a laid back, casual, beach and planned for a rental home that was in-line with the feel of the island and by no means formal. However, this rental was unsatisfactory even for a ‘casual beach home’; especially when compared to our friends on the island in multiple homes with similar, mostly lower, price points.
We arrived to no WiFi and one bathroom having no hot water. Both were fixed but an inconvenience.
The BIGGEST concern was the inability to lock the home at night. One side of the second floor sliding glass door was completely missing it's handle leaving only a hole and the other was too loose to work properly. But a HOLE instead of a handle is dangerous. We were traveling women and children only with one child that sleep walks. Not being able to lock balcony doors was a SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
The general cleanliness of the home was not only dissatisfactory but completely unacceptable. Unfortunately I cannot add pictures to this review because I documented everything. The blinds in the bedrooms were broken and non-functional. The quilts in the linen closet had not been washed and were soiled with a concerning stain on the front. The mattress pads from the linen closet that were used to make up the fold out sofa bed were urine stained and clearly had not been washed. The kitchen plates were beyond filthy with a gray film that could not be removed. There were MOUSE DROPPINGS in the kitchen drawer. The outdoor eating/pool deck area has been neglected and the provided “pool toys” are covered in mold.
We paid an extra fee for three additional guests. The oldest children stayed with a friend/cousin on the island after night one because of the state of their room. We were charged an extremely high fee for cleaning and sundry supplies. There was a 1/4 bottle of windex, a hand full of pods for diswasher and washing machine and we were given a broom after requesting on day 4.
The outdoor garbage is meant to be taken away on Tuesdays and Fridays. We arrived to full, overflowing garbage cans on Saturday and it was not removed again throughout our stay.
We complained directly to the homeowner and his response was that they repaired the WiFi and provided us with a broom, which we requested. A drop in the bucket.

Lauren, it's hard to respond to a nearly completely false review. Yes, we had to have the shower fixed during your stay (previously unreported by any guest), new beach chairs that were ordered the week before your arrival delivered to the island half-way through your stay, and broken slider door handles ... all of which were repaired either during your stay or the weeks after your stay.
What is missing is all of the cleaning complaints that were raised by your group the day before departure, after you had stayed for 5 nights with the threat of a poor review if we didn't bow to your demand of a 50% refund.
You made no cleaning complaints when you arrived or during most of your stay, only making them after you had been in the house 6 days.
Although that process seems to work for guests booked via AirBnB, this is the first time that we have experienced guest behaviors like yours and we refused to bend to your extortion demand, and now the poor review.

We had a wonderful time on North Captiva Island. Although the house could use paint and some updates, it was perfect for our 8 day vacation. The property managers made the process seamless and were very prompt in answering my questions. Must stay!

Amazing vacation home
North Captiva Island is a well guarded secret but it is an amazing place to vacation. This house was absolutely perfect for our family of 5. The pictures are accurate, the home is beautifully maintained and perfect for enjoying this amazing island. My kids had so much fun in the pool. Being steps from the beach was fantastic. In addition the owners were wonderfully responsive, answered all my questions. There is a management company that oversees the property and makes sure you have everything you need. They were also extremely responsive. I can't say enough about this house and would go back in a heartbeat!

Private heated swimming pool and a 2-3 minute walk to the beach. What else can we way about location?
The house was perfect for us two couples, one celebrating our 40th anniversary and the "young couple" celebrating their 35th. The island and house were just perfect.

Great location.
We loved being so close to the beach. The pool was nice. House was in good condition, clean, and the balcony was perfect for morning coffee. There were a few things about the house that could have been a little better. Kitchen cooking utensils/pans/etc where very minimal. The master bathroom was very small and the towel rack was broken and kept falling down. The pool furniture was a little worn/cracked. The umbrellas for the beach were broken and need to be replaced, but the beach chairs were great.

Awesome Vacation
We stayed on the Island on Feb. 2018 and it was wonderful. The house was nicely decorated and the views from the deck were amazing. The pool was so nice and private. You cannot beat the location, just a short walk down the road to the beautiful beach. The sunsets were amazing! We will be going back next year for sure.
Thank you Bill and Tonya for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful stay!!
We had a great time at Captiva Isles. House was beautiful, very close to the beach. The weather was a little chilly and windy the week we were there, but the wonderful heated pool was amazing! We loved it. One of the showers was not working when we arrived but the property managers were there immediately and fixed it in 10 minutes. Great trip! Hope to return someday.

Perfect vacation!!
We were greeted by the owners property management company which was 2 people. Lori explained all we needed to know about the house, golf cart and the Island and another person loaded and unloaded all our luggage.
The house was great and had everything we needed (coffee maker, ice trays, pots/pans and even a Britta pitcher to filter our water). Great views of sunsets from the screened in porch. WIFI worked great and the new pool was perfect.
Short walk to the beach and you are on wide open areas for walks or just sun bathing. Ocean was perfect temp and very safe for swimming.
I would recommend this house and owner has two next to each other (both in great shape).
We will be back and we are looking into houses and land to become owners here someday real soon. No cars, just golf carts and sand paths. It is great. Night sky is just stunning too.

Amazing week!
We just returned from a fabulous week stay at this beautiful home! The house was perfect for our family (4 adults and 2, 16 month olds); the beach was a short walk away and we could come back to the house and lounge by the pool during afternoon naptime for our babies. The owners were super helpful in getting us 2 high chairs, 2 pack and plays and a baby gate, all which were waiting for us when we arrived. North Captiva Island is such a beautiful hidden gem; we loved traveling by golf cart all week! It was a relaxing week spent having breakfast in the screened in porch, strolling the beach, swimming in the pool and watching the sunset over the ocean on the deck. Cannot wait to come back!

What a hidden gem North Captiva Island is, we are so happy we found it!
Hi Bill and Tanya, Just wanted to send a note to tell you what a great time we had at your home. The house is beautiful, the location to the beach perfect and the pool was a great way to spend 3 hours while our kids napped during the afternoon! NCIC helped with our luggage and groceries when we arrived and when we left on Friday morning, everything was very smooth. What a hidden gem North Captiva Island is, we are so happy we found it. We went to all 4 restaurants, went to the playground, utilized the tennis courts/rackets and some extra beach chairs. We will definitely spread the word on your rental homes for anyone else looking to visit.

About the host
Hosted by Captiva Isles
In a place like Florida where paradise seems to be every place you look, North Captiva Island reminds us of the Florida we remember from years gone by. When we first visited the island, we fell in love with the beauty and serenity of the island, as well as gorgeous white beaches. Our happiest moments are spending time with our family and friends in a place that makes you feel welcome and we reluctantly leave the island feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
Why they chose this property
We chose to buy “Captiva Isles” on North Captiva Island because it was truly a rare find. Steps from the beach with views that can range from golden orange and red sunsets glowing over the Gulf of Mexico, dolphins swimming, pelicans flying above, or the sandpipers dancing along the shoreline. The beaches are pristine and uncrowded, with many locations to gather seashells. We are within walking distance of the 700-acre state land preserve and enjoy walking for miles on the beaches and the preserve without seeing any signs of civilization except our own footprints in the sand.
What makes this property unique
Captiva Isles has been designed to accommodate all of your senses. Our home features breathtaking views from our upstairs screened lanai, an upgraded kitchen, indoor and alfresco dining, satellite TV, DVD systems, and HIGH SPEED wireless 80Mbs + internet with SpaceX's StarLink Home Internet. Our spacious home features luxury bedding and comfortable furniture that keep our guests coming back year after year.
