'Les Hiboux' self-catering gites are situated in the hamlet of Crezieres. In Chef Boutonne,10mins drive, there are restaurants and bars, supermarkets, banks and other small shops, including 2 bakers. There is a weekly market and tourist information available there.
Poitiers (1hr drive) has a great range of shops and Futuroscope. Vallee des Singes, (45mins) is an excellent day out for younger families. The silver mines at Melle, are 20 minutes away. La Rochelle (1.5hrs) has a large marina and a great aquarium. Excellent beaches near La Rochelle including the beautiful Ile de Re. Cognac the home of brandy, is within a 60-minute drive.
Canoeing, kayaking, lake-swimming and horse riding are available locally.
The Poitou-Charentes region has many delights. Its varied landscape is steeped in history and tradition. Visitors can explore picturesque hilltop villages and medieval towns, Romanesque churches and cathedrals, ancient abbeys, châteaux, museums, and art galleries.

Family friendly getaway

We hade a wonderful stay, absolutely beautiful garden with lots of games (our kids enjoyed snooker, table tennis, boule and biking) and a lovely pool area. The countryside had many tracks for running and biking. Tim and Ellen were great hosts that really made us feel most welcomed and we warmly recommend this getaway.

Green, peaceful, authentic

Lovely cottages with an enormous garden and playground, clean waterpool. Very peaceful area, almost sad to see so few villagers left. Tim and Ellen are lovely, helpful and discreet. The spring mattresses on the beds in La Vielle Maison were a bit too hard for me, but that is a question of personal preferences. Thank you for a peaceful stay, Tim and Ellen! Enjoy you green paradise!

Excellent séjour au calme

Toute la famille a adoré le séjour. Le logement est agréable et tout est mis à disposition pour passer de bons moments : piscine, grand terrain, trampoline, billard, baby-foot.. Les propriétaires sont très sympathiques et charmants. Des promenades sympa à faire dans ce joli petit village, des visites intéressantes à programmer dans ce département méconnu et quelques spécialités culinaires à découvrir... Si vous rêvez de passer des vacances loin de l'agitation, c'est le lieu parfait !

Superbe séjour dans les Deux-sèvres.

Nous avons loué pour une semaine le gîte de La vieille maison, très heureux de ce choix, nous avons passé de superbes moments en famille. Le gîte est grand, charmant et très fonctionnel, il y a tout ce qu'il faut pour passer de bonnes vacances. Les hôtes Tim et Ellen sont très accueillants, gentils et discrets. Une multitudes d'activités est possible sur place, les enfants ne peuvent pas s'ennuyer ! La piscine, trampoline, baby foot, billard, fléchettes, croquet, badminton, foot.... Le tout sur une magnifique propriété, parfaitement entretenue, arborée et fleurie. Pleins de belles visites et activités à faire aux alentours. Pour des vacances à la campagne, dans le calme et la sérénité n'hésitez plus !! Nous, on aurait bien passé une semaine de plus.

Week-end sympathique en famille. Très bon endroit pour décompresser de la ville, perdu au milieu de nul part. Gérants agréables et maison propre avec tout à disposition. Je recommande fortement !

Gîtes et jardin très agréables

Lieu idéal pour un long weekend entre amis avec la Charente a quelques kilomètres où l'on peut faire du Kayak Les propriétaires sont très chaleureux et accueillants

Perfect family holiday!

We have just returned from a glorious 2 weeks at Les Hiboux with our 2 sons aged 5 and almost 2. It has been by far the most relaxing family holiday we have had. We stayed in La Vieille Maison which was very comfortable, well equipped and had lots of space. But the real success of Les Hiboux is the huge gardens and all the facilities for the children - the big sunken trampoline, the climbing frame, tree house, petanque area, fish pond (securely fenced off & gated) and of course the fabulous pool. And our little one was beyond excited by the sheep! The gardens are extensive and safe so we could let our older one roam and play without having to watch him every minute of the day and there were plenty of children around so he was never short of a playmate. In fact it was so relaxing and they were having so much fun that it was 9 days before we actually made it out on any trips anywhere! There's a European zoo not too far away with racoons, porcupines and lynxes which as a fun day out and we went to Ile de Re which has some lovely beaches. But the rest of the 2 weeks was just spent lounging around the gardens and pool and having a wonderful time there. Tim & Ellen were very friendly and welcoming and very helpful with any requests we had. And anything ion the house that needed attention (e.g. our parasol blew over and broke its holder) was dealt with as soon as we asked. We have loved Les Hiboux so much that we are already booking our return visit next year!

We work hard to ensure that our self-catering properties create a holiday environment that maximises the enjoyment of both adults and children. To call the garden and grounds an adventure playground is perhaps an over-statement, but there is much to stimulate and provide hours of pleasure for all. This allows everyone to relax on the terrace or poolside, knowing that they don't have to continually think of what to do next.
There is much of interest in the area and those without the constraints of school timetables can enjoy the location with all its peace and tranquillity.

What makes this property unique

Rural location but not too far from civilisation! Sunken trampoline so safe for all ages. Games' rooms and boules pitch. Lovely shared swimming pool and superb gardens. The cottages are tidy and well kept and are all fully equipped. Plus free wifi.
