About this property

Bright cozy cottage with Mt. Adams view

The Mountain View Cottage is a cozy, light-filled cottage with a large, airy sun porch--perfect for enjoying the Mt Adams view with your morning coffee. Located in the heights of Hood River, the cottage sleeps four, with one bedroom (queen-sized bed) and a full-sized futon bed in the sun room. The cottage comes with a completely equipped kitchen, as well as a gas grill, picnic table and large, sunny yard with plenty of room for adults, children and pets to play. It has a TV (but no cable service) and a DVD player, with a few DVDs. The yard is deep and private but not fully fenced.

We have a strict non-smoking policy. We do not allow any smoking within the house, including the sun porch or the outdoor porches. We would prefer you dispose of tobacco products off-property...and definitely not in the indoors trash cans. Any violation of this rule will result in forfeiture of the entire security deposit.

A full basement offers storage for your toys and outdoors gear.

The cottage is within easy walking distance of the community pool, tennis courts, Jackson Park, a fabulous bakery and several great restaurants. There is a small organic market just two blocks away, and several grocery stores within a short drive.

World-class wind sports, swimming, white water boating and mountain biking can all be accessed within ten minutes. Downtown Hood River with its art galleries, movie theaters and fine restaurants is a long walk or short drive away. In the winter, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and sledding are 45+ minutes away at Mt. Hood Meadows, and 1+ hours away at Mt. Adams.

Taylor Avenue is a quiet street that borders Hood River's Jackson Park, which has tree-shaded picnic tables, a playground for children and adjacent tennis courts and pool.

Definitely plan to have breakfast at the nearby Pine Street bakery, then head on down the street for delicious organic food and deli items from the Farm Cafe. La Taqueria (3 blocks away on 13th Street) offers some of the best Mexican food and margaritas in town!

The cottage has a driveway that can easily accommodate two cars. On-street parking is also provided.

The cottage is within easy walking or biking distance of almost anything you'd need. In a pinch, Columbia Area Transit can provide dial-a-ride, door-to-door service through the Gorge.

Lovely time
A lovely flow of days at this sweet cottage. A bakery, a brewery, a baseball diamond all nearby. We had fun daydreaming what we would do with paint & tile to make it even sweeter.

cozy cottage
We loved this little 95 year old house. It had wonderful period details, a lovely big backyard with a beautiful view of Mt. Adams. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was very comfortable with a great location in a quiet neighborhood. We would like to stay there again in the future.

Cute cottage
This is a really cute little cottage located in a good part of Hood River. Check-in was very simple. We enjoyed our stay. After check out, I sent a thank you text to the owner telling her what we enjoyed about her property. I also added a couple of suggestions to make it even nicer. I prefaced this by saying sometimes you don't notice things because you see them so often and sometimes a fresh set of eyes may notice things. For instance, there were cobwebs in the windows, some of the woven window coverings were shredded, the woodwork could use a new paint job as it is very chipped up. I reiterated to her that we very much enjoyed our stay and that I was not pointing these things out with intention of offending her. I also sent pictures. She did not even respond so I'm going to assume she was offended. If they would do the small things I would give this place 10 stars. Very poor communication after I took the time to tell her our honest opinion.

Nice Quiet Location
We wanted to stay somewhere that was quiet on the 4th of July. This cottage fit the bill perfectly. Normally get a nice view of the mountain- wildfires put smoke in the way, but we could see it was there. Nice yard.

Leigh and Bengt have lived, worked and played in the Columbia Gorge since the early 1990s. They were joined in 2001 by their son Finn and in 2007 by their border collie Pippin. Bengt is a hydrologist, Leigh is a writer and college instructor, and Finn is now a sophomore at college. They all four enjoy camping, hiking, mountain biking and sports.

Why they chose this property

The Mountain View Cottage is a sweet, light-filled 1925 cottage with a great yard and beautiful views of Mt. Adams. In the right season, feel free to pick cherries, peaches or pears on the property; in all seasons, the best bakery in town is just two blocks away. We love our cottage and hope you will too.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with the cottage the first time we saw it because of its 1920s charm. We love how every room is filled with light and all the little details that make it cozy and welcoming. The Mt. Adams view out the back windows is spectacular and the deep back yard lends itself to lazy afternoons and bar-b-ques.
