Aloha Cabin: Best Backyard Sledding Hill, Snowplay and Family and Group Friendly
Welcome to the Aloha Cabin! This newly remodeled three bedroom + loft, three bathroom house is conveniently located within Tahoe Donner, is very comfortably furnished and has a expansive backyard that is perfect for outdoor play and has been called “the best sledding hill” in Tahoe Donner. Plus, of course, gain access to all of the year-round amenities that Tahoe Donner has to offer including swimming pools, golf, and tennis.
Each floor has a bedroom and full bathroom, which is great for limiting noise and maximizing privacy. On the first floor, the bedroom houses two sets of bunkbeds (four twin beds), and the bathroom has a shower. There is also a bonus space with a comfortable couch, television and foosball table. This bedroom and bonus space make for a perfect kids’ hangout where they can be as loud as they want without disturbing those on the main floor. There are doors at the top and bottom of the stairway the keep any noise from traveling. At night you can put the kids to bed and then hang out in the living room on the main floor as late as you want without worrying about waking up the little ones. Nothing puts a damper on a vacation than being woken up too early by excited kids or having to be quiet and whisper your conversations at night after the kids go to bed. This won’t happen in this house!
The kitchen and living room are on the second floor. The second floor bedroom offers a queen size bed and walk-in closet, and the bathroom has a bathtub with jet streams, perfect for relaxing after a long day in the outdoors or on the slopes.
The cozy kitchen is newly remodeled, and you will find all of the necessities to make a gourmet meal. It is fully stocked with dishes and flatware, pots and pans, cooking utensils, cookie sheets, muffin pans, rice cooker, toaster oven, toaster, wine glasses, coffee maker, French press and more.
The living room has a solid wood dining table that comfortably seats seven, and the kitchen bar seats an additional three. A top-grain leather sectional and seats round out the perfect conversation, TV watching, or relaxation spot. A flat screen TV offers dozens of cable channels and there is WIFI throughout the house.
The third floor hosts a bedroom with queen bed, a bathroom with large shower and a loft with two twin beds and another comfy conversation nook. All of the furniture is in mint condition—no lumpy beds or old linens here.
Outside, there are two large decks. The front deck has teak furniture with seating for 10 and a gas grill, and the back deck offers a relaxing, private atmosphere ideal for viewing the forest and stargazing. The yard offers plenty of at-home adventure opportunities year-round for the kids and an amazing sledding hill for hours of entertainment. (Sleds are in the garage.) The backyard connects to a large wooded greenbelt that is perfect for hiking and exploring. There is a one-car garage and a carport with parking for at least four or more vehicles. The driveway is completely flat, a major plus for the winter months. There are also a washer and dryer for longer stays.
The home is very conveniently located in lower Tahoe Donner in Truckee, allowing you to get to all of your destinations quickly. You will have access to all of the Tahoe Donner amenities (with a small fee) including three swimming pools (one open year-round), fitness center, bocce ball, archery, and the members-only beach club and boat lunch on Donner Lake. Plus, you will have access to the Tahoe Donner ski area, cross country ski center, golf course, tennis center, driving range and equestrian center. Northstar, Sugar Bowl, Alpine Meadows, Boreal, and Squaw Valley are all within a 30 minute drive as well as the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe.
Throughout the home you will find little touches of Aloha, from the bright fish artwork to the starfish on the dining table. Whether you want all the activity that the water and slopes have to offer or you want a relaxing retreat in the woods, make the Aloha Cabin your home away from home, and be prepared to create memories that will last for years.
Please note that all reservations are tentative until the signed rental agreement is returned.

We loved our stay at this cabin! Great layout that allowed the kids space to play, but also room for everyone to go when it was time for sleep or quiet.
Clean, well-stocked, and amazing backyard hill!
We’ll be back!

A good January ski weekend
We enjoyed the house, and the owners were easy to communicate with and helpful. It's set back quite far from the road, with lots of place for the kids to play outside, even though the snow was 10 feet deep. The house itself was comfortable. The kitchen is small, but efficient, and well equipped, although it did lack a dishwasher. Not a huge deal, but it didn't occur to us that it wouldn't have one. The space was very good for two families with kids ages 9-12.... they could be downstairs on their own. The beds were comfortable, and the house was warm .The 1-car garage was accessible after the snow removal guys came. Overall , we had a good time.

Thanks for your review. I'm so glad to hear that you had a great stay!
We wanted a snow weekend and that is what we got! My 3 grandsons ages 10-8 who live in different towns like to play and see each other and we all know how difficult that has been. The elevated backyard was perfect for sledding, discing, and we even now have a budding snowboarder! He practiced and practiced. So convenient to stop, run in for food and back at it. As adults, we liked the separate sleeping and bathrooms! So much fun! Hope to repeat next year.
Perfect cabin for snow play & sledding without having to leave! It was super clean, cozy & comfortable inside. We will definitely rent this property again in the future!
The home was spotlessly clean. Very kid friendly with plenty of separate and shared space. Close to both Donner Lake and Truckee River which are both beautiful and accessible for both small children and seniors. We definitely hope to come again
I think it says a lot when guests return to the same property - this was out second visit to the Aloha Cabin.
Aloha Cabin is awesome for families, there is room for everyone to hang out together, and still places for people to sit away from the group if they want.
For us the big draw is the sledding and snow in the backyard - it allows us to play as long as we want, and then go in for a break when needed.
Close to Old Town Truckee, a Safeway, and restaurants.
This trip we went over to Squaw Valley (only 20 minutes away) and spent the evening seeing the fireworks over the snowy mountains and disco tubing!
Thanks for having us! The Eck
We loved staying at the cabin!!! It was perfect for 2 families. We especially loved having the hill in the backyard to sled. This allowed the kids to play outside several times per day. I would love to stay here again!!!
My husband and friends enjoyed their annual Tahoe-Truckee golf trip and this cabin was the perfect place to stay. Convenient to everything, comfortable and well furnished - and most of the bedrooms had their own bath! Kelly was very helpful. Everything was perfect.
We enjoyed our stay at Aloha cabin. The room and amenity descriptions were accurate, but we thought the location would be more private than it was, and we were on a busier road than expected. That said, Kelly was easy to communicate with, directions and check in/check out process very easy. Donner lake was beautiful!
Great location and easy check in/out. very comfortably fit our family and friends.

A great stay
Comfortable and spacious vacation home with beautiful surroundings. The kids had a great time playing in the backyard (so much sledding!) while the adults enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen and cozy living room. We'll be back to see it in other seasons!

My kids didn't want to leave
We had a great time. I liked that there was a bedroom and bathroom on each floor. It provided plenty of space and privacy. Kitchen was small but I was aware of that. It met our needs. There was so much snow that we couldn't access the "sledding hill" in the back. That was a bummer but that's mother nature for you. We were there 4 nights and my kids still didn't want to leave.

Great little cabin near Donner Lake
We recently spent four days at the Aloha Cabin with another family, in all four adults and three kids stayed in this cute little cabin.
The pros:
- Clean and well stocked house. There are plenty of cooking supplies, games, towels, amenities, even sleds to entertain our group when we were snowed in for two days!
- So close to Boreal and Sugar Bowl, super convenient
- In the two-day blizzard a snow plow came by everyday to plow out the driveway, which was SO helpful!
- The owner Kelly is super responsive and helpful before and during our stay
The small cons:
- The kitchen is very small, which you can't really tell from the photos, which made it hard for multiple people to be in side (cooking and cleaning at the same time)
I would recommend this cabin and come back again in the future!

Cuddle Up with your Loved Ones at the Aloha Cabin
We had an Awesome snow vacation at the Aloha Cabin! The cabin is very much as described, and it easily sleeps 10. It worked great for two families - with the "big" kids downstairs, one couple on the second floor, and another couple with the small kids on the third floor. The kids LOVED being downstairs, they called it the "kid cave" as in "cool, let's go down and hang out in the Kid Cave". Still there is plenty of room for everyone to hang out together on the second floor, and enjoy looking out the huge glass windows at the snow. Plus, there are TONS of down comforters (what's on the beds plus extras) for cuddling up on the couch or the floor, to read, watch tv, build puzzles. We love the town of Truckee, but honestly, we parked the car on arrival and didn't leave the cabin until we went home days later. The BEST part though was the sledding hill out back, we made great use of the sleds in the garage, and had a blast without ever leaving the cabin - total quality family time that my kids will never forget. Thanks so much for having us!

Never wanted to say "aloha" to the Aloha Cabin!
This place was amazing! The owners really thought of everything. We had 9 people comfortably and there was even room for more if needed! The home is beautiful and give you that warm, cozy feeling. Cute decorations everywhere. Lots of fun to be had in the kids room downstairs- we had a wild foosball tournament one night! And the living room and kitchen area are perfect for cooking, talking, listening to music, watching movies, and relaxing all together. We never wanted to leave. Great location, too! Near lots of fun in Truckee and not to far from the Tahoe activities. Definitely coming back next time!

Great family vacation spot
Great property! We were two families traveling together--7 of us, with room for several more. The layout is great with double bunks downstairs for the kids, with adjoining bonus room with foosball table and video games. Two more bedrooms for the grownups, and the third bathroom is a bonus. Kitchen's a bit small, but we got used to it quickly and made the most of the space. The house was clean and comfortable. Plenty of seating for dining and lounging around. Loved the front deck for outdoor eating, and the back deck for coffee in the morning. Location was great--loved Truckee, and property is not far from Lake Tahoe. Lots to see and do. We spent a day enjoying downtown Truckee and exploring the Donner Lake/Pass area with all of its history. We enjoyed a boat tour on Lake Tahoe to Emerald Bay (beautiful!), and several hikes around the lake. Kelly was awesome to work with. I would stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

Lovely Family Getaway
We stayed here for our annual Tahoe family gathering. Everyone really liked the place. The older kids couldn't get enough of the foosball table. The youngest just had fun traversing the stairs of the three floors. The place is very clean and has a cabin-in-the-woods type feel. The beds were very comfortable. My sister said she slept better than at her own home.
The place is really close to Boreal and Soda springs which we went to and had a great time.
We had a small issue with a bathroom heater. We called the owners and they responded promptly. They were so nice and helpful to solve the issue quickly.
I would definitely recommend this place.

Great for extended family
The Aloha Cabin was a perfect place for our family of six plus grandparents. We've stayed in much bigger (and pricier) cabins in Tahoe Donner in the past, but this place is so well laid out that it didn't feel cramped at all. It's really cosy and well set back from the road. The slope behind the house is also great for sledging. Highly recommended!

Great place for kids! Nice location.
We had a wonderful stay at the Aloha house with two other families. The open layout on the main floor was great for spending some time together, and hanging out when the kids went to bed! The front patio was perfect for BBQ-ing and dining alfresco (and not worrying about making a mess). We had our baby upstairs and he was isolated from the big kids' noise downstairs no problem. Our boys loved exploring the vast backyard where we had squirrel and deer-sightings. Location is convenient, very close to the Donner pool were we enjoyed swimming, pizza and delicious ice cream cookie dessert, as well as rafting down the river, and swimming in Donner Lake. We worked with Kelly and she was really helpful, nice and responsive, giving us tips (about the rafting and ice cream cookie and more!) and responding quickly to any questions.

About the host
Hosted by Kelly
We have lived in the Bay Area since 1996 and have had the fortune of visiting Tahoe Donner with our family over the past several years. We wanted to spread our love of TD by sharing our home with others. Some of our family’s best memories have been created in TD, whether hiking in search of the elusive sugar pinecones, kayaking on Donner Lake, snorkeling at Speedboat Beach, cross country skiing in TD, fishing for crawdads, floating down the Truckee River, or simply playing a game of tag in the backyard. We have furnished the home with all the comforts that we enjoy and hope that you love the Aloha Cabin as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the humongous backyard. It is the best combination of shaded flat ground (large enough for a pickup game of football) with a perfect upward sloping hill. It’s been called the best sledding hill in Tahoe Donner. Our children and their friends have spent countless hours exploring the greenbelt, tossing footballs and playing soccer, creating amazing mountain bike tracks, sledding and snowshoeing and playing hide and seek. There are endless possibilities when you have both flat and hilly ground to choose your own adventure.
We also love having two decks. The front deck is perfect for al fresco dining and is an extension of the living/dining room. The back deck is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee or star-gazing at night. It also overlooks the spacious backyard where you can watch your children play.
What makes this property unique
There is an amazing amount of privacy inside the Aloha Cabin. This is especially important for larger families or if you are vacationing with more than one family. Not only does each floor have its own bedroom and bathroom but the soundproof double doors that separate the first floor bonus room and bunkroom from the rest of the home create a distinct space where kids can play as loudly as they like while the adults can lounge in peace in the second floor living room. When it’s bedtime you can put the early sleepers to sleep on the first floor and never have to worry about being too loud as you continue your festivities in the rest of the house.
Practically speaking, the flat circular driveway and garage are immeasurably helpful during the winter. There is also a covered carport for a second vehicle. No need to waste time in the morning scraping snow off your cars before heading for the slopes.
