Lovely property in a very quiet peaceful position. Well placed to explore lots of Northumberland. Everything provided to enjoy a lovely week just like a home from home.
Beautiful property in an idyllic location. I have 2 teactive dogs, so finding a suitable property to stay at is inportant. This property ticked all the boxes. Great quiet walks, amazing views, noone as a durect neighbor to the back garden. Private gated driveway.
The house is a fanrastuc size, super clean, and felt at home straight away.
The cottage isn't far from where i live, and i chose it as i was having works done to do the house and wanted to be out of the way. Despite that, i would still return as it felt a million miles away ftom real life.
The cottage is lovely and just as described. The directions were thorough and easy to understand. We arrived just before dark and found our hosts had gone above and beyond to ready the place for us. The travel cot and baby gates were all set up and supplies for the dog were ready, so it made getting everyone to bed easy that first night. Everything to get us through to a morning shopping trip was available and much appreciated! We were never lacking for cooking supplies, laundry supplies, etc. throughout the stay and clean up on the day we left was easy too. The cottage walled garden was perfect for letting our dog off leash, and the grounds around were excellent for walks. It was so gorgeous and peaceful, but not too far from any of the sights we wanted to see. We were able to keep all of our day trips under an hour one-way, which was perfect. We plan to come back some time and highly recommend the cottage.

Poor
I have just returned from a stay at The Shortflatt Farm Cottage in Northumberland which is where I have stayed at for a week. I was very disappointed at the standard of this accommodation and also the cleanliness of this. I have taken photo’s if required to add to my complaint as I don’t believe this has just been left from the last people who stayed here, this has been over a period of time.
On booking I was not made aware of the condition of this property which left me and my family very disappointed at our stay. I was also charged a service fee which leads me to wonder where this money is actually being spent as it is not spent on deep cleaning.
On arrival my Wife had to spend time cleaning out the fridge which was left dirty and stained.
We wouldn’t use the washing machine as this was thick of dirt.
The wifi is very poor and I had little to no connection at times when I had work to complete, this wasn’t stated on the description of this property.
My Daughter went to use the shower and there were hairs left on the shower walls. The shower was dirty and the Xpelair was thick of dust. Due to this we didn’t use the shower. We didn’t come for a weeks holiday to then have to clean the property ourselves so that we knew it had been cleaned properly.
For the price of the accommodation I don’t believe this is reflected in the accommodation, amenities or cleanliness.
I booked The Croft Northumberland with you last month and I would have expected the same level of standard with this stay. I appreciate this is a farm cottage however, I would have still expected this to be of a high standard for the price.
We spent a very enjoyable and relaxing week at Shortsflatt Farm over Christmas. The house was very clean and the owners left us a lovely welcome pack and a Christmas tree and decorations. The location is so peaceful with stunning views of Northumberland. We definitely didn’t want to leave at the end of the week.
What a wonderful place to visit , cottage was a picture, as well as warm and welcoming for a winter break we had in December. Countryside is vast and stunning. Will be back for a summer visit. Host had thought of everything, there was even a fresh pint of milk in the fridge so we could have a cuppa on arrival. Brilliant, thank you.
A lovely cottage in a wonderful location, if peace and quiet is what your after then this is ideal.
Large garden for the dog to explore.
Ideal base for exploring further afield.
Owners were available if needed, although they just left us in peace.
Everything you need is catered for, even logs for the fire.
All in all a very nice place to stay.
Very well kept, warm, clean and cosy cottage. Had everything we needed. Set amid fields, surrounded by wildlife and sheep. Close to amenities, metro and about 30 minutes from anywhere! Loved our stay.
We felt very much at home in the cottage. Comfy beds, very well equipped, cosy, and so peaceful! It was a real pleasure to come back to it each day, and we’d definitely stay again.
Lovely little cottage, in a quiet and beautiful location. Easy access to local area. Very clean, well presented and well equipped. It was just perfect and we would highly recommend.
We stayed here for 1 week in February, and this cosy cottage was just what we wanted. Clean, quiet, contained everything necessary++, beautiful location and close enough to shops, pubs and restaurants. The lake area is worth paying a visit, just to get some piece of mind and to discover the rich wildlife there is here. The property manager came by to say hello once, very nice people. We asked for two bikes during our stay, and they were ready for us when we arrived at the house.
It's not that easy to get a taxi to this area in the evening, but with a little effort, it turned out good eventually. It's also possible to take the bus from Belsay to eg. Newcastle
When we had discovered the area by walking, running, biking and driving, we used this location as a base to travel around, and there is a lot of cosy and beautiful villages, nature and places worth paying a visit.
We really enjoyed our stay, and we will definitely return soon.
Thank you!

The cottage was spotless and so comfortable with lovely attention to detail. It has the feeling of being secluded, while being near to local amenities if needed.
Although the weather was mixed we enjoyed daily walks from the door, had a meet up with the horses followed by a coffee on the sunny terrace.
The enclosed garden was perfect for our dogs and for us to enjoy the views.
We look forward to returning.
Stunning location for this well-equipped, comfortable cottage. Ideal for resting up or visiting the countryside, coast and city. Definitely recommended.
Absolutely stunning property, sympathetic renovation but with all mod cons, immaculately clean, all crockery, pans, utensils etc are provided.
Sooo quiet and peaceful, only the cows, sheep, horses, 4 x cheeky hungry squirrels and a lovely little robin for company !
Squirrels are quite demanding and actually stare at you through the bedroom skylight when they want breakfast 😂 !
Farmhouse is sooooo warm all the time, no need to use the log burner, the enclosed garden is fab for dogs and meant i could leave the door open for him to come and go as he pleased, knowing he couldnt get out.
Bed was extremely comfy and clean, slept like a log ! Only downside was couldnt get a takeaway delivered, 1 place couldnt find the farmhouse and the others wouldnt come out that far 😟. Tory was sooo helpful and quick to respond to all questions and left out some beautiful fresh roses and amazing shortbread (which i had to share with the squirrels, they are also very partial to hobnobs !)
You will not be dissapointed, go ahead and book now, we will def be coming back in the summer so Alfie the old, chubby Bulldog can have a plodge in the lake !
Oh and watch your head !! My uncle is 6' 3" and hit his head on every single doorway upstairs and down, twice ! 🤣
Beautiful, tranquil, home from home. Just amazing.
This property had everything you need, good location for travelling around Northumberland, peaceful, secluded and great views of the fields and sheep from the front of the property. The cottage was lovely, nice decor and woodburning stove with plenty of logs, a rarity in most rented cottages. My kids aged 3 and 6 loved it here and so did the dog, having his own walled paddock to safely run around in. I'd recommend this cottage to everyone as it caters for all types of groups and four legged friends.

We are family run farming business who acquired Shortflatt Farm in 2015 and we completely re-furbished the cottage the to a high standard. Myself and my mother in law Marjorie run the cottage ourselves and we both live within 4 miles of the cottage, so near enough to be contacted if necessary but keys are left for guests on arrival along with welcome cake!
Why they chose this property
Set in the heart of Northumberland, the cottage is a perfect base to explore all areas. It boasts the advantage of being secluded and set on its own in beautiful countryside but also within 5 minutes of the village of Belsay, 15 minutes of Ponetland and 30 minutes to Newcastle. The Coast and the Scottish Borders can both be reached within the hour. The cottage is very spacious, with fantastic outdoor space and the lake can be explored but is a good distance away from the cottage for safety reasons.
