About this property
Delightful retreat, 3 mins walk to Widemouth Bay blue flag beaches & coast path
The Summerhouse is a retreat specifically designed and fully equipped for holidays by the sea all year round. Our guests tell us The Summerhouse is 'home from home' and perfect for couples, friends and families. The property benefits from a light airy open plan living on the ground floor encompassing a dining, kitchen and lounging area. Large sliding doors open onto a secure, private courtyard where you can play, sunbathe, BBQ, eat, drink or relax with a book to the sound of the waves breaking. There are two attic bedrooms, one double and one twin which provide a cozy sleeping environment. The ceilings are low though! The shower room is on the ground floor off the entrance hall. Your parking is off road on a shared private drive.
The property is conveniently situated in a private lane just 3 mins walk from Widemouth Bay's two fabulous Blue Flag and seaside award beaches, this being the Gold Standard for beaches internationally, popular with families, surfers, walkers and sunbathers. The village has two fantastic pubs, village farm shop which sells fantastic fresh fish and locally grown and reared produce, a fish and chip shop, as well as two beach cafe's providing you with all the Cornish cream teas and ice creams you might fancy and all within walking distance. Widemouth is situated on the South West Coast path and is a great base for exploring Cornwall on land or sea, by wave, foot, car or bike in any season.
We make every effort to run the Summerhouse in an ecologically sustainable way. The house itself is largely timber framed and utilises insulation manufactured from recycled fibres. This insulation is highly effective meaning that very little heating is required. We recycle as much as possible, the hand wash, washing up liquid and detergent bottles are refilled with eco-friendly products to avoid waste. We ask that you do not throw away any of these bottles when empty or as you are leaving as we will wash and refill them. In the bathroom you will find shampoo, conditioner, body wash and handwash from ‘Faith in nature’, an eco-friendly company specialising in products with low environmental impact. We wash and refill the bottles so we ask that you do not take them home with you or discard them. We are trying to discourage the use of cheap plastic body boards. Cheap body boards are prone to breaking, wasting your money and polluting the environment. 600 discarded boards were collected from Bude last year. Instead we provide wooden boards to use. Our boards are seconds that would have gone to waste and were donated by a local manufacturer or are old donated boards that we have renovated, some date back to the early 1960s. We promise you’ll love to give them a go!! If you prefer a more modern bodyboard you will also find foam boards for your use. These are higher end products than the cheap ones on sale in beach shops and have been in use for 20 years. We would encourage you to use these rather than waste your money on cheap polystyrene ones which often find their way into landfill sites. We also provide wetsuits and other beach supplies for you to use during your stay. As with boards this is an attempt to save you money (particularly children’s suits which they will have grown out of by the next holiday) and reduce waste. We cannot guarantee that there will be a size to fit you but there is a pretty good range, so if you can find one that fits feel free to use it instead of buying or renting one!

The challet was very cosy, and clean with very comfy beds. It's in a great location so close to the beach and a couple of great restaurants within walking distance. It's ideally situated to explore the north Cornish coast.
It's a great little hideaway, located so close to the beach. It has everything you could need for a break. The cut through at the end of the road through the dunes to the beach makes it really quick. The rock pools the Black Rock end are great when the tide is out and the surf was perfect for our family during the stay with lifeguards across the bay.

We loved staying at The Summerhouse - it was in the perfect location for us, right near the beach, was well equipped and had a great 'feel'. Communication with Nic and Bob was excellent - they were very friendly and supportive, especially in light of the current situation. Highly recommended

Lovely light, airy holiday home in the most perfect spot
Fully equipped, beautifully clean light and airy property just around the corner from the beach in Widemouth. The only sound at night is the sea; perfect for a relaxing stay. Widemouth has a great pub (Bay View Inn) and an amazing café overlooking the beach that are both second to none. Stunning coastal walks and a heavenly beach. What more could you need?

Lovely family beach holiday
The stay at the summer house was lovely. The house is clean and fresh and has a holiday feel. It comes more than well stocked with extras like toys, games, wetsuits, crablines and body boards. There is a nice outdoor courtyard for the kids to play. Nic and Bob were extremely welcoming . It was a few minutes walk to the a good family beach which was wide with gentle surf - perfect for our kids as they were learning to body board and surf - and good rock pooling at low tide. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The Summerhouse was the perfect place for a relaxing break.
We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Summerhouse, We went away for a relaxing break for my birthday, and Nic & Bob left me a lovely gerberra plant, which was a lovely touch. The Summerhouse is perfectly situated for the beach, just a 3 minute walk and your in the surf, which is what we went for. The Summerhouse has everything we needed, even tea, coffee, milk, juice and even a cream tea...amazing! And the added bonus of having your own parking space, which to us is a must. Thank you Nic & Bob, we will definitely be back 😊

Lovely homely place with all the necessary amenities with extras such as wetsuits, body boards, buckets and spades, children’s toys and books. Our 2 year old was very happy! Clean and well kept property, easy to find and a place to park the car off road. Bob and Nic were great, replied to questions and queries promptly.
5 minute walk to the beach from property, great for a quick nip to the beach for a surf or splash around in the sea.
Thank you 😊

The Summerhouse at Widemouth Bay
We have just returned from a really lovely long w.end, staying at 'The Summerhouse'. The accomodation was just as we hoped it would be, very comfy and homely, with everything you could possibly need. Nic, the Owner had left us some amazing scones (and clotted cream!!) and other lovely very useful 'goodies' which was very thoughtful. Only mins from the fantastic beach at Widemouth, where we did loads of walking and exploring of this stunning area of Cornwall. Will definitely be recommending this property to one and all!! We will hopefully be back one day too, Jane,Terry and Heather

Thank you so much. A wonderful. Place to stay do close to the beach.
We are a family of 4 and all of us loved everything about the house and area.
Everything you need is there.
We even made use of the wet suits and boards.
Great beaches and lovely places to visit and eat at.
You will need a car to get around but if you just want a day on the beach it’s less than a 5 min walk away. Some of the best beaches are on the door step.
Thank you again for the afternoon tea on arrival and a lovely place to stay.
You have been lovely right from the day we booked.
We will be back x

Hi All,
Thanks so much for your review, great to have you here and looking forward to your next stay here
Nic & Bob
We had a fantastic four night stay at the Summerhouse at the start of the October 2022 half term. From the outset and throughout, the communication from the hosts, Nicola and Bob was excellent. The Summerhouse is a cosy, warm, well equipped lodge in a brilliant location in walking distance of Widemouth Bay, if you are looking for a place to walk, swim or get in the surf it's perfect.
Downstairs the kitchen and lounge area are roomy and welcoming, with lots of thoughtful touches such as games, dvd, WiFi, milk, coffee, tea and scones. The downstairs bathroom has a great shower and the eco friendly toiletries were lovely. Upstairs the bedrooms are a quirky V shape and are well equipped and comfortable. Outside patio space is good and is set up for surfers and beach goers with taps, spare gear and hangers.
We took advantage of borrowing the classic vintage wooden body boards which were brilliant fun, although we actually enjoyed using them most at the slightly less lively waves at Bude, which is just a 10 min drive away.
The hosts recommend the nearby BeachHouse restaurant which is in walking distance - great food and welcome.
The hosts are completely transparent about the building work going on next door at the moment and unfortunately it is quite intrusive being right by the Summerhouse. If you are people who like to get up and out early before 8am then it won't bother you too much but if you want a lie in, then it's not great. Very frustrating for the hosts I'm sure and hopefully it will get finished soon.
The hosts were extremely flexible and let us check out later which was appreciated.
Recommended as a brilliant base to visit North Cornwall, and particularly recommended for those who want to get into the sea.
Immaculately clean, wonderful location few mins walk to beach, brilliantly equipped kitchen, lovely accommodation, nice furnishings. Best air B&B we have ever stayed in by far.
we had a fantastic Christmas at Widemouth Bay, the property had everything needed & more, the location was superb, on Christmas morning we walked the 5 mins to the beach & watched all of the Christmas morning swimmers, great sight to see, our son lives 2 mins walk from the property so was an ideal location for us to spend Christmas with our grandchildren, now we have found this property we shall return. thank you
The property was beautifully laid out and furnished making use of all the spaces and being completely self-conrained. We were met by the owner on arrival and everything was explained. The scones, clotted cream and jam were especially welcome and very tasty - a lovely touch!
We struggled a little bit with the low sloping ceiling in the bedroom but we knew about that before we booked. All the amenities were provided and thoughtfully done including books, games and DAD'S if you wanted them plus use of wetsuits which was a great extra that was provided.
Altogether, a lovely property which was perfect for the two of us.
We had a great week at the summer house ideally located for the local area and beach. Well equipped with everything you need.
And the cream tea on arrival we are nice touch
Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back
This was a perfect spot to head to the beach everyday. It's about a 5 min walk to the beach cafe (one of my favourites in Cornwall as it just feels like you are still on the beach), and a few mins walk to the sand dunes higher up the beach. The outside patio in the house is a perfect private area to take off wet suits and shower outside before going inside de-sanded. Also lovely to sit out there when the sun is shining (twice in one week for us only...). There are bi-fold doors to the patio to make the whole place seem bigger (when it's not raining, which wasn't too much of the time we were there!!). The place had everything we needed for a lovely stay, including some good quick puzzles, an x-box and a good range of books - kids and adults happy :) The upstairs has very low ceilings (eaves) so just be aware of this if you like your space. There is also only a toilet downstairs (clearly written on the website and didn't bother us).
The Summerhouse is ideally placed to walk to Widemouth/Black Rock beach. Nic and Bob were brilliant hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The Summerhouse was stocked with everything you need, including spare wetsuits, toys for children, books and a BBQ. The head height in the bedrooms was a bit of a struggle as the 3 of us are quite tall but it didn’t really distract from the holiday. The only thing we were missing was a clock downstairs but apart from that, we loved every minute of it. Would definitely stay again.
Just returned from a wonderful stay at the beach house, even though weather wasn't the best. Well equipped with lots of little extra's including a welcome cream tea- covid compliant, and hosts were excellent. Wonderful beach for body boarding & surfing, and quiet peaceful location, to relax & recharge. We will return.

About the host
Hosted by Nicola and Bob Booth
As a family we are fortunate enough to live and work in this beautiful part of the country, and take full advantage of all it has to offer. Whether it be surfing, shopping, cycling, walking the coastal path or crab lining in Bude there is always something to keep the family happy. We have lived in the village since 2006 and have been welcomed into the very friendly local community and envisage staying here forever. In 2012 we decided to build the Summerhouse so that we could share this beautiful village with others. The Summerhouse shares a drive with our family home Elanora so we're always on hand if you need us. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. Nic and Bob Booth
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Widemouth Bay whilst on holiday in the late 1990s and it took until 2006 to realise our dream of moving here to raise our family. The Summerhouse allows us to spend as much time as we can in the village we love.
What makes this property unique
We built The Summerhouse and as such have put a great deal of ourselves into it. That's why we love it!
