The lodge was perfect for us. Cosy, warm, all facilities, utensils, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, luxury toiletries, spotlessly clean and private. A peaceful haven to recharge away from city life.
We stayed for two nights as a stop gap when we were holidaying in the area.
Although the cabin is by the car park and owners house it still felt private. It was well equipped with coffee, teas, shower gel etc but is very cosy and cramped in the living area. We also felt in places it was looking a bit tired.
Didn’t use the hot tub so can’t comment on that.
Plenty of information sent before arrival. Check in was via a phone call and we never got to meet anyone.
The first part of the track from the main road is awful with massive pot holes, it gets better once you hit the tarmac. It could be the first part does not belong to the property so can’t be made any better but it would help if some of the holes were filled in.
It was certainly a very peaceful place and was lovely hearing the owls at night.
My girlfriend and myself had a fantastic time at the lodge. The area was lovely and secluded despite being next to the main house. There were amazing views in the local area and the lodge itself was clean and cosy. We highly recommend staying here if you want a lovely private getaway in the countryside!
Wonderful mini break for our honeymoon. Myself, my husband and dog.
The property is close to the main house, which I read in previous reviews but this didn't matter at all as we had full privacy. The lodge is equipped with everything needed for a luxury stay. The whole area is so peaceful , quiet and calm.
I'd return to this place in a heartbeat :)
Loved our couple of nights away for our mini honeymoon, absolutely gorgeous cabin with hot tub.
Would recommend anyone to stay here, and would live to come back as soon as possible 😊
We absolutely loved our stay, the hot tub was amazing and the owners went above and beyond as they knew we'd booked for my husbands birthday. Definitely worth the money and the 3.5 hour drive. Thank you so much! We will definitely come again.

The location of Rowan Tree Lodge was tranquil and unique and very peaceful. We loved our time there. Sitting in the hot-tub and listening to the birdsong was a real treat. Ludlow and Tenbury Wells are both well worth a visit.
Wonderful place so peaceful and quiet my wife loved the hot tub accommodation was just perfect well presented clean and tidy and the bath robes supplied for the hot tub was a nice touch as if forgotten to back mine
The property was lovely and clean, exactly how the photos portray.
Hot tub is in a beautiful setting and heated for us upon arrival
Lovely short stay away and would recommend!
It was a lovely couple of days away! The fire and hot tub was unreal. Really glad we stayed here!! Good location once you find the cabin, welcoming town and would love to come back again.

Great if you want a driveway escape
I booked rowan lodge for my girlfriends birthday. I saw it was a woodland escape so assumed it would be remote, no one around and the pictures showed there would be a lovely view.
Well, we turned up to find out we were situated on the house owners driveway and could hear the goings on out on the drive and there was no woodland view unless you count the tree with the broken branch that was in the way of that view or the small gap that you could see the house.
We paid 55 pounds for what was meant to be a hot tub. The hot tub was basically a bath for two people.
They had already warmed up for us which was nice, we got to it and found a thermometer was reading at 50 degrees. It says to add cold water if required to cool down and read the thermometer. Absolutely fine, until I found I had to walk around the cabin to the other side of the fence to operate the hose pipe meaning shouting to my girlfriend to hold the hose and tell me when. Very awkward.
The amount of wood supplied was not enough. For three days at 5 pounds a bag. That’s fine had it been said that enough will NOT be supplied for the three nights we were there.
The track down to the lodge isnt the greatest. If you care about your car it’s probably not the road for you as it resembles abit of off roading.
The lodge itself was lovely. The fire made it very homely. The shower could have been more consistent with heat but that’s the joys of a lodge I guess.
There was used coffee in the cupboard which I wasn’t too Impressed with.
All in all it’s safe to say I probably will not be going back there to this particular lodge.
Really lovely cabin very well maintained with fantastic hot tub and log fire making it a realy cozy winter getaway. Really good hike trails on doorstep.
Good facilties inside cabin, tv, cooking heating etc and very well decorated. Really easy check in and out and covid safe. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!
We had a lovely weekend at Rowan Lodge. Thank you.
We had a great stay, hot tub was lovely and warm. We had no hot water to begin with but the gentleman came over straight away and kept us updated.
We arrived in the dark so the lane down to the lodge was very narrow and steep. Take your time when going down to lodges! Was beautiful though. Thank you for our lovely stay.
The property was excellent it catered for all our needs. The surroundings were amazing and the evenings spent in the hot tub watching the nights draw in and looking up at the stars were memorable.
Definitely worth every penny and a experience not too be missed.
This was one of the most beautiful settings we’ve stayed in. So peaceful.
It was a short drive to many wonderful villages and towns.
The directions and check in were simple and hassle free. The property had everything you would need. Very well supplied.
We would highly recommend a stay here. We would definitely return and possibly try one of their other cabins for a different view.
Penny was very welcoming and responded promptly to any emails.
A gem in the woods with a view.
We arrived at Rowan Tree Lodge at 2.51pm for a 3pm booking. We informed Penny the day before we were planning on arriving at 3 but received no response to confirm this was ok. I called when we arrived, to be met with a cold response saying ‘we might not be ready yet because you are early’. I offered to wait the 9 minutes until 3 but I was told this was not needed.
The lodge itself is nowhere near as private as we were led to believe. It is directly beside the main building which I think is where the owners live. All day there were cars up & down the driveway, banging doors and conversations in the car park which is situatied directly next to where the hot tub is. There is a fence between the hot tub & the car park, but we never felt totally private. The gardens were being cut for a few hours Tuesday, which was noisy and the gardener was around us while we relaxed in the lodge. Communication with the owners was very poor. I sent 3 messages to Penny during my stay, with no response to any of them. There were no clear instructions on where to leave the keys when we checked out so we had to leave the lodge open with the key on the table.
The hot tub was clean on day one, but because no chemicals are used, by day two the water was already murky. We were left no clear instructions on how to light & keep the hot tub warm, I asked Penny how this worked and had the reply ‘just light it again in the morning to get it hot’. We have no prior knowledge on how to keep a Swedish Bath hot & had to wing it throughout the week, luckily we managed without too much difficulty. I recommend purchasing a second bag of logs as one wasn’t enough to keep the hot tub going all week. We paid extra for the hot tub anyway, maintenance or clear guidelines on the use of the tub, as well as a constant supply of logs should have been included in this price without paying £5 extra for more logs.
The safety of the hot tub is awful. The steps are very slippery with no rubber mat on top for grip. The steps are also not secured to the floor which makes them unstable, as I discovered when they wobbled as I got in Tuesday afternoon & I came crashing to the wooden floor resulting in a number of sizeable bruises on my legs & back.
The lodge felt tired & in need of a good clean. The sitting area in the bedroom had a floor gripper poking through the carpet which I stood on every time I sat to do my makeup.
Overall, we enjoyed having a holiday together, but we wont be back.

About the host
Hosted by Fern Bowkett
We are a family of three very hard working women. There is my mother Janet, my daughter Fern and myself who run our holiday let business here in Shropshire. My daughter has a degree in English Literature and is currently studying to be a barrister, while working full time as a Legal Assistant in Shrewsbury. I am an accountant and am lucky enough to work in a beautiful location in Clun. Having grown up in Yorkshire, the beauty of the Shropshire Hills was what I had always dreamed of and when we first saw Bowketts Wood with its stunning panoramic views, woodlands and grounds, I knew that it would be my forever family home.
My children have both had a lovely and safe upbringing surrounded by nature and they have come to love and appreciate the Shropshire countryside as much as I have.
Why they chose this property
We want our guests and visitors to experience the beauty of nature and all it has to offer in every season.Whether you like the warmth and serenity of summer, the bleating of the lambs in spring, the golden colours of autumn or the crispness of the winter, Rowan Lodge is the perfect tranquil escape. Ideal for couples looking for a romantic and peaceful retreat or a small family looking for a quiet break away.
What makes this property unique
The beautiful views of over six counties are absolutely breathtaking. Based on a sight of outstanding natural beauty and special scientific interest, our garden and grounds are home to over sixty types of rare and exotic plants and flowers, as well as a host of wildlife including foxes, badgers and deer. We are also in a perfect location for bird watching and have our own woodland buzzard who often swoops down whilst driving up the drive, In the Summer our woodland is covered in a blanket of bluebells and the whole place just comes to life. It truly is a special, unique and magical place.
