Cabin #1 - "Chickagami" A Native American word meaning “camp by the lake.” Chickagami is a fitting name for this 431 sq ft cabin, one of the first built in 1929 along the lakeshore of this small vintage resort currently known as Lakeside Cabins.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the late 1920's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and those are few and far between. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
The listed rate reflects the price for 4 adults or a family with children up to 6 people total. Additional adults beyond 4 will incur additional charges. This cabin has a sleeping capacity up to 6 people utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There is 1 electrical outlet next to the bed in one of the bedrooms, the other bedroom does not have an electrical outlet. Other electrical outlets are minimally located throughout the cabin. This cabin has a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 13'x7' enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee and watch the morning sunrise.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Think of this place as staying in a camping cabin except with comfortable beds, a sink, stove and bathroom with a shower. Very rustic but comfortable camping!
The cabin was rustic but so nice to stay in. It was warm with a fireplace heater and the view out to the lake was beautiful. The host was very communicative and nice. It was a great experience

This was a basic cabin, just as advertised. Everything was just as expected and the views of the lake were marvelous in the morning.
My mom and i had the amazing pleasure of staying in thus adorable cabin. It had everything we needed and was super close to the Mackinac island ferry. We will definitely be back and highly recommend to all
Cute place! Perfect for a couple or small family. Love its right on the lake. We had a fire and watched a family of ducks swim by a couple times a day. Very peaceful.
The location was 10 minutes from Mackinaw. The local restaurant had an amazing breakfast and the local bar was in walking distance. Had a perfect weekend!
My husband and I stayed here for a night to split up our drive from Metro Detroit to the U.P. The cabin was rustic and quaint, plus it was big-dog friendly, so perfect for our needs. We didn’t get to enjoy much of the property but the water looked nice- shallow and sandy bottom near the shore. Could be a great option for a group of friends or large family with older kids as you could rent multiple cabins.
This place is a great base camp for all your adventures in the area. Beautiful sunrises over the lake to start the day. Then a great place to relax after a long day with fire by the lake. The owner Richie is always there to greet the quests.
Richie was an AMAZING host. He was great with giving recommendations on things to do and if we needed anything he was only a text away. The cabin is a perfect rustic getaway that provides all the basics. The beds and futon was very comfy and the fireplace was PERFECT. The cabin is so close to the lake and it was perfect. The water is so clear. Over all it was a great getaway with my husband. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
We had a great time and loved the view. Ritchie was a great host. He welcomed us upon arrival and was responsive when we had questions about how to work the TV. We will be back and will stay here again. I highly recommend this property for a relaxing time.

Born and raised in Northern Michigan, I’ve worked with the special needs community for over 30 years. By recently purchasing a little 7 cabin lakefront resort, I was able to transition my career to incorporate my love for camping, outdoor activity, and local history in a way I can share with others. I offer vacation rentals of vintage rustic lakeside cabins that were established in 1929. I welcome guests who love the camping experience while venturing to the Mackinac area historic sites, adventurers who come to enjoy outdoor activities, or those who are simply here to relax and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this property because it encompasses the style of vintage cabins from days gone by, back when times were simpler. The cabins offer the nostalgic feel of the camping experience I remember enjoying as a child.
