Modernized 1960's Semi-Oceanfront - Dog Friendly with Large Fenced Yard!
I'm going to talk you out of renting this house before I give you reasons to do so - Please Read negative reviews first, this is a unique 1963 cottage and location, and it's not suitable for everyone. If you have a tendency to need perfection, not read entry instructions, or want a quiet location, this is not a good fit.
It is a PET FRIENDLY HOUSE!!! No fees, no limits on number, size or weights going forward. We have combined pet and cleaning fees - if you don't bring a dog, please realize we can't get every hair from under every bed between guests every time.
The SeaWitch is 62 years old this year, and there is a chance, despite monthly treatment by Professional One Pest Control, bait and sprays, that a roach might find it's way in again - we had one incident with a phobia last year I do NOT want to repeat. I don't want to ruin anyone's vacation, so please do not book if you or a family member has an issue with this possibility.
Dee takes a great deal of pride in keeping the house clean, but if food is left out, ants are also a possibility. Before knocking a star off - please let Dee know of ANY issues. She wants you to be happy.
All future guest contact is being handled by Delores Woodard (Dee) my housekeeper. Her number will be at the top of the entry information which you will receive after the rental agreement is returned.
Short Description: 1960s cottage restored and improved in 2015 with new HVAC, new TVs, new Stainless Steel Appliances including induction range, quiet dishwasher; new beds & flooring, very dog friendly (we do accept multiple dogs) with 4' high welded wire COMPLETELY fenced yard, right on beach road, close to everything, 75 yards to beach access, NOT a quiet location due to beach road traffic! Sun-Sun changeover during summer season, check in any day with 2 or 3 day minimum during the offseason.
Full Description (please read before asking questions!):
*THERE WILL BE NO OCCUPANT ON GROUND FLOOR, JUST STORAGE*
The SeaWitch is meant for those looking for a classic, slightly worn cottage with modern conveniences - central A/C, stainless appliances, Dish Network DVR system with 65" TV, and reliable DSL WiFi. There are 3 bedrooms, the "Yellow" room with a soft foam king bed, the "Blue" room queen firm foam "Tempur-pedic" bed, and the "Green" room has 2 foam mattress twins. The bathroom has a tiled shower / tub, cabinet style vanity, and lots of hooks to make sharing easy. There is also a nice large outside shower, completely rebuilt and repainted with new controls and showerhead.
The house is very dog friendly - large yard completely contained with 4' welded wire fence (generally dog proof so far, but I'm sure a determined dog could dig out) with attached to wood fencing; we have fencing around the kitchen stairs so dogs can be let into the yard without having to go outside.
The beach access is located on the Kill Devil Hills / Nags Head town line, which means the rules are different if you go left or right at access - Nags Head allows dogs on leashes year round but KDH restricts dogs on beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day between 9am and 6pm. So, you basically have to turn right at the access to go into Nags Head during the summer.
Kitchen features an "Induction" range, and is fully equipped for fairly involved cooking with quality cookware, dutch ovens, pots, pans, sharp knives, roast pan, etc.
50 year old milled wood T&G walls in the great room would have some great stories to tell, some you can see just by looking at the scars. LVT floor throughout the entire house. A 3 ton central A/C.
We will only rent to adults over 25 and families, with families much preferred... sorry kids, no beach weeks.
Cleaning fee includes sheets and bath towels for each bedroom (enough for 6 people) and includes as many dogs as you want - please do not abuse this, and tip Dee if you think she'll earn it.
You will need to bring your own beach towels.
When you exit the cottage driveway turn right to head towards 8th street that is an easy 1 minute walk to direct public access on the left (ocean side) and a boardwalk to the beach.
Under the porch there is plenty of space to store your fishing rods and beach accessories. There is a large outside shower as well.
Washer and dryer in utility room on ground level.
Beach Items: There are at least two chairs, coolers, a heavy duty beach umbrella like you get from the rental places, a fat tire beach cart, and some other odds and ends in the utility room.

Very Nice stay for 4 nights, the rental is just as described, great location for our stay for the Hot Rod Festival. Dee was great in communicating on our questions before we booked the stay. nice yard for the dog and plenty of parking . Will like to stay again. Thanks for everything!
Great location. A 2 minute walk to the beach, good places to eat in walking distance, great big fenced in yard for the dogs, deck was phenomenal to sit on, tvs in each room, nice dining room table, sofa, kitchen and bedrooms. Would definitely stay there again.
We booked this house last minute for my kids spring break the house was perfect and In a great location. The owner and manager were very responsive and we even got to check in a little early! I would recommend this 100 to my friends and family. We will be back!
This was the perfect place to extend our stay for our April week in Frisco. The house is very comfortable and very clean. Our dogs loved the huge yard. We ate breakfast at Sam and Omies which was fantastic. Our dinner was at Noosa’s beach grill and I can’t say enough positive things about the fabulous food and specialty drinks! The staff was very welcoming. We bought treasures from local artists at The Artsy Octopus and we visited and bought treasures from the Shipwreck on the Causeway. This house is conveniently located to just about everything!
SeaWitch is a wonderful house! It's light and bright with lots of space. The beds were incredibly comfortable, which made for a great nights sleep. The fenced yard was huge and my dogs loved playing out there. The kitchen was the most well-appointed kitchen of any house I've stayed in. The pots and pans are high quality, the knives were sharp and there were plenty of utensils and dishes. We had a wonderful time sitting on the uncovered deck and when it got warm, we moved to the covered deck. The house was clean and there was no odor. Check in and check out were seamless. I highly recommend staying there!
The house is much nicer than the pictures. Really quick walk to the beach. Centrally located to all OBX. Well stocked kitchen appliances and utensils. No issues at all. This place and the owner live up to all the great reviews we read!
Lovely and comfortable home with lots of character. Very convenient location and super easy walk to the beach. Friendly, responsive hosts and the backyard was awesome for the pups. Our family had a great trip!
This was the perfect home base for our winter birding trip. Josie the dog loved the big back yard. It was close to several good restaurants and public beach access. It wasn’t fancy and that was fine with us. We will be back!

Great house. Great yard for the dogs. Perfect area for beach access. Plenty of kitchen ware. Sheets and towels were a plus. Easy entry. lots of parking. Great porch views. My kids wanted to buy the white couch. They fought over it over the whole time we were there! Thank you!
We had a wonderful stay and couldn't have asked for more. Everything was clean and welcoming, beds comfortable and our fur babies loved the HUGE fenced backyard. Highly recommend!
Stay was great. Property was clean, in a great location, and very accommodating. Everything that was needed was provided, felt very homey, was not loud, and was extremely convenient location. Property manager and owner was very responsive, and we had a wonderful experience.
We stayed from July 9th to 13th, 2025, and had a wonderful time. We loved the SeaWitch cottage's location, and the fenced backyard was perfect for our dogs.
We spent a week at the house and we were comfortable. Each day we would load up the beach wagon and take a very short walk across the road and over to the beach.
This house was perfect for our needs. We loved the yard for our dogs. The beds were very comfortable and the shower is nice. I also appreciated the little things, like hooks in all the rooms and the beach wagon. We had everything we needed and a short walk to the beach.

My wife and I have been in real estate, design, rentals, and construction on the Outer Banks for 20 years. I recently started thinking about designing and building "spec" homes again, and bought this property to rent to students and then tear down and re-develop.
Then I fell in love. Within a week of starting work on it, the plan changed from "student rentals for summer then tear down", to "restore and add modern touches to make a great weekly rental", bridging the way is used to be with the way people like things now.
I spent six months doing everything I could think of to improve the place while keeping the old charm. We took the bathroom down to the studs to make it the nicest room in the house. Added a huge TV, fast internet, surround sound system, best stove I could find, new flooring, new doors, stripped and painted the old drywall, all new bedding, and more.
My main goal with the house is happy travelers. I'm generally quick to give a refund if I make a mistake or can't fix an issue - however, if you consider yourself "picky", may I respectfully suggest booking another home as we are unlikely to be a good match.
If you're read this far... thank you! Creating clear expectations and meeting them is the key to a happy vacation rental home stay for both of us.
Why they chose this property
A unique combination of new and old make for an inviting, homey, comfortable stay that you just can't get in a house with no history. I can't tell you how many people have told me about the great times they've had in this house, back to the glory days when it was built in the sixties by someone named "Steponovich" which is how it came to be called the "SeaWitch". It's located right in the middle of everything and only steps to the beach.
What makes this property unique
This cottage is quaint and open, and is in walking distance to the beach, groceries, drug store, the new ABC store, nice restaurants, fast food, beach rentals, everything! We are also local owners, and very knowledgeable about the real estate market in case you might have questions.
