About this property
Cozy & Charming Lakefront Log Cabin on Cupsuptic Lake / Rangeley, ME
Open living/dining floor-plan with classic fireplace as centerpiece. Fully equipped kitchen & cozy living. Outdoors enjoy lake views from the covered porch, relax on the hammock or roast smores over the outdoor fire-pit. And from this camp's dock you'll enjoy fishing, kayaking & canoeing! Stunning 20 minute drive will land you in the beautiful town of Rangeley. "Oxbow Camp" is the perfect weekend getaway:
- From Portland ME = ~ 2.5 hrs
- From Burlington VT = ~ 4 hrs
- From Manchester NH = ~ 3 hrs 45 min
- From Boston MA = ~ 4 hrs
Oxbow Camp Info Sheet:
Hammock - Its on the porch and hooks are on 2 trees overlooking the dock. Relax and read books!
Outdoor Grill - There's an outdoor gas grill to use at your own risk.
Heating / Fireplace / Trash & Recycling:
There's a gas heater in the living room that will take the chill off the cabin. Just set the temperature & it warms up quickly. The heat travels up the stairs quite well & the electric heat (except in the bathrooms) is usually not needed.
You'll find firewood on the porch. Please be sure the damper is open in the fireplace. PLEASE BRING OR SOURCE YOUR OWN KINDLING. OR YOU CAN PURCHASE IN TOWN. FIREWOOD IS PROVIDED BUT WE DO NOT HAVE KINDLING.
Trashcans are located on the side of the cabin. One can is marked for recycling. Due to the local wildlife, please don’t leave any bags outside of the cans.
Grocery Store:
The nearest grocery store is the Rangeley IGA, about a 20-minute drive. The Oquossoc Grocery is about 7 miles away & does sell meats, produce, basic groceries & prepared foods.
WiFi & Phone:
There's no WiFi at the cabin. However, there is free Wi-Fi in Oquossoc at the Oquossoc Grocery. The library in Rangeley also offers free Wi-Fi. There's a cabin phone for local calls only.
Canoeing / Kayaking:
There's both a double kayak and an aluminum Grumman canoe available for use. Two (2) adult vest-style lifejackets are in the downstairs closet. The lake is a wonderful place to explore but can become rough in a short amount of time, so watch the conditions carefully. Paddling out to the island (in front of the cabin) is fun. Often, there's one or two Eagles nesting in a tree on the left side of the island (as viewed from the cabin).
We also recommend kayaking the Kennnabego River. Rivers Edge in Oquossoc rents kayaks and offers a kayaking trip on it. They'll drop-off/pick up kayaks at end of the trip.
Fly Fishing & Other Local Suggestions:
The Rangeley Chamber of Commerce is a good resource for the area.
Rivers Edge Sports Shop in Oquossoc is about 7 miles from the cabin. They would also be able to provide info.
Carrie Stevens was from the area & is famous for her fly tying. She has a small monument in Upper Dam, which is also a very popular spot for fly-fishing. They had been reconstructing the dam, but fishing continued during construction. It’s a very interesting area. Check with the Chamber or Rivers Edge about this spot.
The Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum in Oquossoc is definitely worth a visit.
The Kennebago & Cupsuptic Rivers are nearby. Check with Rivers Edge about fly-fishing in these areas.
The Magalloway River is a well-known spot for fly-fishing.
Other Cabin Info:
On a cupboard near the dining table is a binder that has additional information you might find helpful!
