Ironbark is a classic, low-key, single-level, Western Red Cedar beach house in a quiet street in Jan Juc Village, the more rural and treed area of Torquay. The interior of Ironbark is light with large windows and garden views. The home is furnished and decorated in a comfortable and relaxed beach style. There is interesting and fun artwork on the walls. It has a rustic, yet at the same time, modern ambience and modern conveniences. You will definitely feel you are out of the city and suburbs and the architecture and busy-ness of those environments and in the easy-going, relaxed atmosphere of the beach and countryside. See if you can spot the distant sea view on the horizon. This is a family beach house and is set in a large (668m2) Australian native bush-style garden with many trees. The property is secure with a high front fence and gates that can be securely closed for child safety. The home is much-loved and regularly used by the owner and is therefore well-maintained and kept clean and attractive and is very well-equipped. The spacious open-plan living area has a wood fire for Winter, a reverse cycle air conditioner/heater and includes a T.V. seating area, a second seating area that has views of the garden, a study desk, a full kitchen with dishwasher and adjacent dining area with Grandma’s charming retro 1960s kitchen dresser and dining table for six. There is a separate laundry with tub and washing machine and a clothes line and clothes airers. All the living areas receive the afternoon sunshine and there are outdoor blinds on north and west-facing windows for protection on hot Summer days. The comfortable bedrooms - two with the morning sun, the third with views of the front garden - are carpeted, have quality beds, built-in wardrobes, chests of drawers, quality sheets, doonas (feather & down in Winter), pure wool blankets, pillows and also electric blankets for the cooler months. The master bedroom has a King-sized bed and a semi-ensuite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has 2 Single beds and Bedroom 3 has a Queen-sized bed. The semi-ensuite bathroom has a full-sized bath, a separate shower, a new, modern vanity unit with basin and mirror and a toilet. There is also a separate second toilet and modern vanity unit with basin and mirror. For your outdoor relaxation amongst the trees there is a family-sized table with 6 chairs, an outdoor umbrella, a lounge chair, 2 bench seats with coffee table. There is a smaller table with chairs on the west-facing verandah for enjoying drinks at sunset. Enjoy a meal or a drink outside while listening to the native birds. All who stay at Ironbark enjoy the large garden, the spacious open-plan living areas and the understated charm and relaxing beach-style ambience!

We loved staying here. Glenda was so easy to communicate with and went above and beyond. The house is great, super cosy and the outdoor area is so nice under all the trees. Would definitely stay again, thanks Glenda :)
The house is always meticulously clean, thoughtfully furnished and supplied, and comfortable; Glenda is great with communication and is an excellent host. We’ve stayed three times now.
Lovely stay, house is decked out with everything you could possibly need, feels like a home rather than an unloved accommodation, large open space to hang out as a group.
House was great for relaxation and family dinners. Everything was operational and very clean. Our host Glenda immediately replied to all text queries - within the same minute sent, at any time of the day or night! 100% of the time!We had a great Easter break, and will look up Jan Juc again at the next opportunity.
Such a lovely, clean and well equipped home ! This was the perfect beach getaway and we were so sad to leave after our stay. All the amenities were too notch, working great and modern, like the kitchen, tv, aircon etc. The house is super comfortable and full of light, and the garden was just beautiful to view from the lovely deck out the back. Short walk to the great Jan Juc beach. I can't wait to come back !
Gorgeous house, thoughtfully and tastefully furnished with everything one needs. Great location and facilities. Glenda was kind, generous and responsive as a host. Would absolutely stay again.
Secluded location on a quiet street, close enough to the beach to walk (15 mins) but far enough that it's not crowded and noisy. Beautifully maintained property and excellent host. Glenda takes great care of this lovely house and its guests. This was our second stay.
Glenda’s home was very well presented, clean and fully stocked with everything we needed during our stay. It was in a good location with beaches and shops a short drive away. Glenda was also very easy to communicate with and responded very quickly.
Really enjoyed our stay. Natural light, clean and relaxing environment. Everything you need in close proximity.
Great choice for budget friendly holiday.
Kitted out with all the essentials and attention to detail second to none, Glenda is an excellent host and we love staying here with the our 4 children. It has everything we need and is in a great location. We enjoyed the bbq and deck and all of the excellent cooking equipment. Thanks Glenda!
We really enjoyed our stay at Rustic Charm in Torquay/Jan Juc, a true beach shack that was neat as a pin on arrival. Availability of linen is a huge bonus and Glenda was a wonderful, attentive and understanding host, ensuring our stay was minimal fuss and easy to check-in and checkout. Highly recommended.
Absolutely loved our stay here.
Perfect for our family of 6. Beautiful relaxing vibe in a peaceful location that’s still walking distance to the beach!
Glenda’s communication was excellent. We got a genuine sense that she wanted us to feel welcome. Would definitely stay again!
We enjoyed a week at this house. It was very clean, with a well-appointed kitchen. Great leafy block to enjoy sitting on the deck, peacefully watching the bird life. Communication with the host was easy, and very responsive.
Our second time here and still one of the best rental accomodation we’ve ever stayed at. Glenda goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. House is very well appointed, sparkling clean and within close proximity to all you need. Thanks Glenda!
Everything was available to make this a very pleasant stay - kitchen fully equipped and all necessary cooling and heating provided. Relaxing Outdoor areas. Unfortunately there was an issue with insects in the kitchen and on the bedsheets.

Thank you for your review Pauline. Yes, ‘wildlife’ can be an issue in the countryside. We have since put in place a program to encourage the ants to stay out of the house which appears to be successful.
We had an amazing time staying at this place! Glenda is such a great host, she left us some welcome chocolates, coffee and wine on the day we arrived..and very easy to communicate! And the house..it is a hidden gem! Spotless.. kids loved all the creativity in the house! 5 min drive from all the beaches..
Definitely we will go back!!
This lovely home had everything we needed. The large open plan area was well laid out. Clear instructions - easy to follow. Hot water, comfortable lounge/couch & beds. A very clean home. Off street parking was handy & a fab. verandah. The host - Glenda - was always available. We had a great Christmas.
Glenda is a wonderful host who replies promptly to messages. The house is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We enjoyed a very relaxing break at Ironbark and hope to return in the future! 😊
This house is immaculately clean. It has all the creature comforts, plus extras. I couldn’t fault it.
My husband and two primary aged kids loved it. Thanks for having us.
Cute and cosy timber cottage, perfect for families wanting a beach holiday in a bush like setting. House was extremely clean and well maintained. All furniture was very comfortable and towels/bed linen all new and fresh!! Perfect for a family stay and would definitely book again.
Little piece of paradise perfect for the family getaway
Superb leafy property. Everything you could want for a 9 day holiday. Room for all the family. Lovely outdoor area to relax and enjoy nature. Open plan indoor area with 3 spacious bedrooms. Everything you need was provided in the house. Easy walk to playgrounds for the younger kids. 5 minute drive to all the amenities of Torquay for the teens. Check in was a breeze. Glenda provided all the information needed and was in contact before and during the stay as needed. Could not ask for more. Could not recommend this property highly enough.

About the host
Hosted by Glenda
Ironbark has been in the Hansen family since it was built in 1989 as a traditional, Western Red Cedar, Jan Juc-style beach house. It was love at first sight! There are many happy memories of times spent with family and friends over the 30+ years of holidays at Ironbark. The family loves coming to Jan Juc and over the years the large native garden has been developed, there have been improvements, modernisations and renovations done to add to the facilities and make the house as comfortable as possible. The bustle of the city is easily left behind in the low-key comfort and restful simplicity of Ironbark. We hope our guests spend a comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable time at Ironbark during their stay and make many happy memories also. Glenda Hansen
Why they chose this property
If you want to be out of the city or the suburbs and the architecture and busyness that is typical of those environments then Ironbark will give you that warm, rustic, understated, relaxed beach-side haven feel while still providing the modern conveniences to make your beach holiday comfortable. Another attractive drive is the trip to the Bellarine Peninsular with historic Queenscliff and from there you can take the car ferry across Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento and Portsea on the Mornington Peninsular.
