It is located in a secluded private forest setting and is a short walk away from the Gasquet Market and Post Office. The junction of the north and Middle Smith River is across the street and a short walk away and has one of the best swimming and fishing holes on the river. The French Hill trail starts just beyond our back gate - it is a gorgeous 4 mile trail (each way).
Our home is an ideal getaway for couples and small families. The home includes all utensils for cooking, a 50" Smart television, 400mb/s wifi and is perfect for vacation getaways and remote office work. The kitchen is stocked with everything a family should need. There is wood flooring in the living room and the super comfy couch is down filled and sits next to the leather recliner. There is a gourmet Egg style BBQ and separate smoker on the back deck and the kitchen appliances are stainless/black. The stovetop is a glass electric and there is a microwave, coffee maker and toaster and slow cook crock pot.
Duffy Court sits on a fenced 1 acre lot and is located via an easy access cul de sac just off hwy 199 and can accommodate motorhomes and trucks/trailers. Our very private location has its own water well ("Rosies" Pump house) and a gated yard with manicured flower beds and plants. There are bistro tables on the front and rear decks and a redwood slab table in the back yard for picnics and afternoon beverages and snacks.
The gorgeous Smith river has world class Salmon and Steelehead fishing is located across the street and a short few minutes walk away.
Our home is a 15 minute drive to Jedediah Smith State Park and Stout Grove Forest where the largest Redwood trees in the world are located and is a great way to "get away" and still be conveniently located.

My little family group had an awesome stay at this beautiful property! This house was conveniently located for trips to the redwoods, river and just a bit of a scenic drive to town and the beach. We all really enjoyed the outdoor spaces and all the delicious blackberries we could eat! The house was well equipped, spacious and comfortable for group. I would definitely recommend this rental for families and hope to stay again in the future!
Property was exceptionally clean. Owner checked in to make sure I had everything i needed. Super close to Jedidiah State park for visiting with redwoods. Internet was super fast which was great for remote work
Overall, it was amazing. Beautiful area, kind hosts, and close to stunning destination locations. On the downside, the water pressure is very low so keep that in mind.

Thank you Nick for your review. The water is provided by the on site water well and a filtration system outside of the home. I wish the pressure could have been mentioned during your stay, so the filter could have been changed, it's a very easy fix. Thanks again for your stay and for letting me know, the filter has been changed now.
Great time in Gasquet and the Jedediah Smith State Park
We liked the house of Bob. Plenty of space, very clean, cosy and everything what you need in the kitchen. Bob was quickly reacting to our e-mails and gave us helpfull hints.
Home was easy to find, cozy and convenient to hiking trails. Spacious open layout. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. The only issues we had were the water pressure was low and the coffee maker leaked. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience.

HI Janet, thank you for your response. Might I be able to ask about the low water pressure?Maybe I need to have my maintenance person come to the house and check the pump house or the filters was it 1 particular shower or bath room or multiple? Also did the coffee pot just leak from a spot, or?? It was working normal when I was up there three weeks ago I will replace if needed for sure immediately. Thank you very much for your feedback and best regards.
Warmly, Bob
The host Robert is 100% on communication & very nice! If I had any complaint(which I don't) I would say that it's misleading to say river 4' walk..it's not. And even though you can walk to river in about 10", you can't actually access it, just see it. There were no directions to river either so it took awhile to find! Overall the property is beautiful, homey, well-equipped with all needs. I'll definately stay again! :-)
Good accommodations. I loved the location of the property tucked into the woods. Great for a place to get to the redwoods right up the road and be home for dinner. Every thing one would need to cook a meal. The only thing I would suggest is a better air conditioner it was really hot the days we were there and the house was just as warm. We would open up all the windows at night to cool it down and then shut them in the morning to keep it cool the fans were a help but it was unbearable in the midday we had to go cool dow by the river. The owner is really nice and responsive. Overall a nice place to hang your hat at the end of your day.

Hi Spring, Thank you for your review and sorry to hear your stay was during the heat. Gasquet happens to get hot a few weeks a year. I will make sure to let future guests more aware to open up the windows and doors and make use of the fans in each room to help.
The electricity needed for full air conditioning would a great deal to the cost of Duffy Court. All the Best, Bob
Home away from home. Not new and fancy. And I mean that in a 5-Star kind of way. New and fancy can often mean cold and unembracing. The Duffy Ct. rental made you feel really at home. It felt lived in and expected us to live in it as well. The home was warm, comfortable and inviting every time we returned from sunup to sundown fishing and exploring. Made great meals. Although we brought our own pantry and fixings, we were welcome to make use of the fully stocked kitchen and pantry of its own. We didn't make use of the wall sized smart TV. But for those who might enjoy a movie, you have it ready. The rooms were comfortable and warm, resulting in solid sleep cycles and energized mornings. Located in Gasquet and on its own Court, you're in the middle of everything but have the privacy that we all want on vacation.
You can't go wrong here. Enjoy.
We stayed in this home for almost 3 months to study for the bar exam. The home was beautiful and spacious, even better than the photos show. The property is gorgeous and we were fortunate enough to be there for the blackberries. It was a great experience getting away from the city to a small town in one of the most beautiful forests in the world.
Bob was very kind and responsive whenever we needed to reach him. He was very flexible when we made adjustments to our stay.
Great experience, 10/10!
My brother and I had a great time staying here for the weekend. The property is conveniently located right off the main road and near the market. It is the only property on this road so you can have a secluded stay in a large house for a very fair price. I would recommend it!
Thank you for a wonderful stay. I enjoyed communicating with the owner so much. He was kind and pleasant and was always responsive. Thank you Bob! The house was clean, comfortable, and has everything you could need. The setting is just so peaceful and close to the most beautiful nature I have ever seen. I will always remember this stay and hope to visit again. Just Perfect!
This home and surrounding area is fabulous. Everything is as described and perfect!
Just what our family needs.
Thank you Bob and Kathryn for sharing your home with us.
We had a wonderful, tranquil stay at Duffy Court. The home is very well set up and has everything a traveler could need or want. Gasquet is a tiny town on the Smith River not far from the Ocean, Stout Grove, and Jedediah Smith forest. The host was easy to contact and everything was just what we expected. The energy of the place was relaxing and comfortable. It was also clean and well stocked.
We had a pleasant stay for two nights. The self-check in was smooth, the house clean, quiet, and comfortable for three of us. Robert was very accommodating with our request for separate nights and allowed us to make special arrangements between the nights. Nearby restaurant and grocery options are very limited; we came prepared to either cook ourselves or travel a few miles.
We had a great stay in late July-early August, picked our weight in blackberries (and barely made a dent in the property's seemingly endless supply), and enjoyed the many amenities of Duffy Court. We enjoyed the French Hill trail adjoining the property and had many fun days on the river. We had a problem with the well water supply upon arrival, but Bob & his team quickly resolved the problem by changing a filter. We would definitely stay here again.
This home is a great homebase to experience gasquet and the river.
Exactly as advertised. We've stayed their twice!

About the host
Hosted by Robert Smith
Hello, we are Kathleen and Robert and thank you for your interest in Duffy Court, our private getaway!
We are located in Southern California and are an active couple that enjoys traveling, cycling, hiking, fishing and gourmet food.
Duffy Court has been in our family for many years and our family has been in the hamlet of Gasquet for several generations. My father was an Apache Indian from the White Mountains of Arizona and my mother was known as the Del Norte County Indian Bead lady. Duffy Court is decorated in American Indian theme and has a few of the Indian beadworks in the home.
Why they chose this property
This is our family getaway! Our home is decorated in American Indian theme, my father was an Apache descendant of Geronimo from the White Mountains in Arizona. We use this as our private getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Come enjoy Duffy Court, it is a fantastic setting for leaving it all behind or having a great adventure.
Our 1 acre property has Apples (several different varieties), Peaches, Grapes, Blackberries and no pesticides ever. There is a hiking trail starting from the back gate of the property. Smith river swimming and fishing is a short less than 5 minute walk to the junction of the north and middle forks.
The water on the property is from an onsite water well and is pristine - guests have stated it is the best water they've ever tasted! The back yard is fenced.
There is a local market and post office 1/4 mile away. The market is small and has the basic needs for food and drinks and serves a breakfast. The market is open from 7am to 6pm, so make sure to bring necessary food and drinks if you are arriving late. Gasquet is a quaint small town of 600 residents and is ideal for walking, hiking, swimming, fishing in the winter and visiting the giant redwood forests. It is a great getaway and a central location for all of the North Coast.
One of the best features of Gasquet is the Summer weather. By being 15 miles from the coast, the Summers are bright sunshine and cool breezes from the coast. The house has very nice "clear glass" front and rear locking screen doors that allow the home to enjoy the daily breeze.
With the cool breeze, Duffy Court stays very enjoyable throughout the Summer. The home is equipped with fans in every room in case for further cooling for the hotter days of Summer.
What makes this property unique
Duffy Court is getting away from the hustle and bustle of everday life! Here are a few of our personal favorites: - picking blackberries in Summer - Apple and Peach cobbler from on site fruit - Hiking Stony Creek to the Darlintonia reserves - Picnic on the Smith River at Stout Grove - Gourmet BBQ on the back deck with our Egg BBQ! - Coffee and pastries and fruit in the morning on the front porch - Hiking French Hill (3mi each way up/back, or 9 miles up and then down French Hill Road) - Cycling Crescent City loop - Pt. St. George to Crescent City overlook - Cycling Winchuck River Road - Day trips to Brookings, Grants Pass, Trinidad
