About this property

Harper’s Hideaway Lake Gaston Retreat

Lakeside beauty built in 2002 and renovated in 2019. Harper's Hideaway includes a new dock, new stairs and decking with outdoor firepit and luxury lanscaping. Our home was designed for families and friends to gather and make memories. This home has four floors with two kitchens, six spacious bedrooms and four and a half baths. Two bedrooms have King sized beds and their own bathrooms.

Amazing views of the lake from all floors. The living room is open to a large sitting room with a gorgeous lake view which continues to an open dining room and eat-in kitchen. Enjoy great meals, sun rises and sun sets at our oversized custom farm table which seats 10-12; with additional seating around our kitchen island and table.

Minimum of 7 day stay by default, but contact owner for any special considerations. We reside in this home at least once a month and hope you can appreciate this property as more than just a summer rental but a second home. Our goal is to see your family return each year and continue to fill this home with happy moments and love.

Amazing well appointed property!

Los of room for our group, inside and outside. All the beds were comfortable, Hot water always available for showers. Very nicely decorated. Lots of games for the kids and adults. Owners were great communicators before and during our stay.Had an amazing vacation. Plan to come back!

Great week at the lake

Our group consisted of 3 siblings, spouses and adult children. Despite the raining weather we had a great time! The home was perfect for our large group, well appointed, comfortable beds and having the 2nd kitchen was wonderful! Easy walk to and from the dock and the patio and grounds were perfect for games and relaxing. Owners Jon & Ashley were very responsive and check in/out was a breeze. We will definitely be back!!

Fantastic Stay

Our group had a wonderful stay at Jon and Ashley’s beautiful lake house. It is perfectly situated on a quiet cove, excellent for swimming and paddle boarding. The house easily accommodated our large group, with great indoor and outdoor common space for group meals and activities. The bedrooms were great as well, and the kids in our group loved having the bunk room to themselves. Our hosts were very communicative and easy to get ahold of as necessary, and answered our few questions very quickly. We would absolutely stay in this property again, and highly recommend it to others, especially family/friend groups looking for a place to all be together.

Great house for a family vacation

Great house for a large family gathering. There were a few issues but hosts were extremely responsive. Hopefully they'll remedy the minor ongoing problems like a bad toilet, nonworking lights in down to dock etc. but they really didn't diminish from our stay. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space and also for the group to gather for meals, etc. The basement bedroom door has a window in it which is a little weird. We would definitely rent from them again.

Our family had a Great stay. The house is beautiful and extremely comfortable. The weather wasn’t great but we still had a great time. Kayaking, paddle boarding & swimming in the lake, fireside dancing with s’mores and hot tub. We visited a nearby winery and breweries. Jonathan was extremely friendly and accommodating when our family dynamics had changed since our booking. I highly recommend Harpers Hideaway for family or friend get togethers. Our families traveled from 6 different states and all agreed it was worth the trip. If we decide to vacation at Lake Gaston again this is where we will stay!!

Owners great people

The house was terrific and the owners went out of their way to be helpful. We had one problem with the lights in the house, minor, but the property manager never got back to us. The owners stepped up and got involved. They also were extremely kind and let us use equipment we had not contracted for. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you could possibly want. Some previous guests had returned dirty pans to the drawers which was annoying. Our family of 10 enjoyed the house immensely.

Lots of stairs to dock and water. Outside of house was very dirty, cob webs and dead bugs everywhere. Live ones in the house killed at least 10 roaches. Towels and linens were of very poor quality. Beds were not made. Hot tub did not work, loungers in boathouse were both broken. 2 umbrellas there but only one umbrella stand. Steps into home broken and seperating from the house. AC worked well some problems with circuit breakers and electrics in kitchen. 2 counter based ice makers both with mold in water tubing, and unusable. House stated 3 fridges but only had access to 2. Would not stay there again and would not reccomend for families with multiple age ranges.

My wife and I recently stayed at this incredible Lake Gaston house, and we cannot say enough great things about our experience! From the moment we walked in, we knew this was going to be a perfect getaway. The house is absolutely stunning and offers every amenity you could possibly think of – from a fully equipped kitchen to comfortable, stylish furnishings. The level of care and attention to detail is apparent in every aspect of the home. One of the highlights of our trip was boating on the lake every day. The location is unbeatable, offering direct access to the water, making it so convenient for us to hop in and out of the boat. Whether we were exploring the lake or simply enjoying the serene views, every day felt like a new adventure. The home itself served as the perfect retreat after long days on the water. It’s quiet, private, and offers a true sense of solitude and relaxation. The spacious layout allowed us to spread out and unwind, while the cozy living areas made it easy to curl up and enjoy a movie night. Whether it was enjoying our morning coffee on the deck overlooking the lake or watching the sunset from the dock, this place was a true slice of paradise. We highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating stay. It truly has everything you need for the perfect lake vacation. A Beautiful/Fun Escape from Everything!

The experience me and my family had in this gorgeous home on the lake was "Epic"!!! The memories we made will last a lifetime. My kids are already asking to comeback and I think this is something we will have to continue doing every year. Overall Grade: A++++++ !

Great Family Fun

A group of 4 families (14 people) enjoyed a great week on Lake Gaston. The location was convenient, close to the neighborhood boat ramp, and the house had everything you needed to have a relaxing time for kids and adults. The house is large with good sized bedrooms and plenty of space for a large group. Everything was exactly as advertised including some extra touches like a dedicated ice maker, Keurig, new outdoor grill, various life jackets, paddle boards, etc. The only hiccup was an AC issue. But the hosts were very responsive and contacted HVAC. The problem was fixed in less than 24 hrs and the hosts were very apologetic and even refunded our cleaning fee as a courtesy. We recommend Harper’s Hideaway and would come back again without a doubt!

What a lovely home! Everything we could ever want was included from blender, crockpot to even an air fryer! We paddle boarded and tubed and played games, it’s all there! Jon responded quickly to any issues and we were very satisfied. Great spot for a large group!

From the first email to the last Jonathan and Ashley were wonderful! We enjoyed our stay and made so many wonderful family memories together! The house was perfect and had everything anyone could want! My granddaughters had a ball paddle boarding and swimming in the lake. We never had to worry about boat traffic being in an inlet! The location of this property on the lake was excellent! The cove was perfect for young swimmers and boat access. The interior was spacious with a variety of entertainment options. We will definitely consider this home for future vacays, we’ll just plan to stay longer!

We had 4 families with plenty of space for the adults and teenagers, the property is gorgeous and the lake did not disappoint. Harpers Ferry idyllic hideout

We had an awesome stay at Jon and Ashleys beautiful property. Starting with a very swift check in all the way to the end they were very attentive and were on top of it helping where they could. The property itself is gorgeous and has lots to offer. For us it meant a lot coming back from work, finding a very quiet and idyllic place to recharge our inner batteries for being fully focused the next day. Everything is sparkling clean, you find what you need and no wishes were left unsatisfied. I can only recommend anyone who is considering this property for a stay, to rest assured they will encounter an amazing time of full relaxation if for vacation, a job in the area or any reason I haven't mentioned. Harper's Hideaway - clean, well stocked, nice stay

We had a great time - this property was a good choice. Nice neighborhood, great location on the lake, home was clean and comfortable, owners were helpful and communicative, we had a great time. Personally I had not been out since lockdown, we were hoping for a clean comfy place to get a chance of pace - it was a great choice.

My husband and I live full-time in Virginia Beach with our beautiful 2.5 year old little girl Harper, who of course inspired our lake house name. We both own and operate businesses that keep us in constant motion while home so this lake house was a way for us to get away and relax from time to time.

We have been vacationing to Gaston since I was a kid with my family and it was always a dream of mine to have my own lake house one day. When we found this home, it needed a lot of love, so for the last 2 years, we have been working hard to make it more than just a home. This house has become a staple in our hearts and a place where our family and closest friends can make memories that will last a lifetime.

Why they chose this property

Our home was designed for families and friends to gather and make memories. Not many homes have the ability to sleep up to 18 people comfortable. This home is large enough for multiple families to enjoy.

It has beautiful views of the lake from many levels and a quite cove for swimming and sunbathing. Enjoy your days on the water and your nights under the stars. We have created relaxing outdoor enviornment with a grilling area, firepit, day bed swing and hot tub. And if thats not enough, you can watch your favorite movie or show on our large projector screen.

Our property is more than just a summer rental but as a second home. Our goal is to see your family return each year and continue to fill this home with happy moments and love.
