Heritage, Lake Front Cottage, Smart TV, WIFI, summer use of Canoe & 2 kayaks.
Heritage Cottage on Baker Point is a slice of history. Baker Point has a sand bar that runs 100 yards out into the lake only waist deep making it perfect for children and fishing. Heritage is recently refurbished, however this 200 year old landmark is the oldest cottage on the lake. If you are looking for luxurious accomodations this is not the place. The main cabin was built around 1820 and pulled behind horses across the frozen lake and placed atop the hill on Baker Point overlooking the lake. The floors are slanted and windows are crooked. We love it. Nestled among the pines the lumber jacks picked this beautiful site for good reason. The Captains Quarters includes a brand new California King bed and a day bed for a child. The Common Quarters is one large room with 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. Be aware that the staircase to the Common Quarters is steep as it is original. Small children should not attempt to climb unaccompanied by an adult. Heritage Includes a 50 inch Smart HDTV and Wifi, new refrigerator, old stove and pretty much everything you need in the kitchen and bedrooms. Also includes nonexclusive use of the fire-pit, dock, 2 kayaks and the canoe which are shared by Eagles Nest which is also located on Baker Point. Heritage has priority use of the canoe and kayaks and Eagles Nest has priority use of the fishing boat. Heritage is not a year round home and is only suitable for living before the temperature drops. No AC, no insulation, but lots of fans and lake breeses. Although Eagle's Nest is new and also on the property, Heritage is where our family stays every summer. We have been on the lake for 130 years and been spending summer's in Heritage for about 60 years so please help us keep the place kept up and let us know immediately if an issue arrises. Wildlife abounds. Deer, raccoons, eagles, ducks, squirrels and chipmunks are a part of daily life here. Be aware that bears, wolves, cougars and field mice can make the rare appearance as well so take care not to invite them. For cold weather months please check out Eagles Nest. Extremely peaceful yet only 3 miles by road and 1/2 mile by boat to Restaurants, Taverns, Dairy Queen, Coffee Shop, Groceries, gas station, a boat landing, and Public Beach with Playground. Perfect stay! Very charming old house and the property is beautiful. Looking through the trees over the lake is as relaxing as it gets. Perfect place to watch the sunset.
The cottage is a classic family place. Think what your grandparents might have had. It's old and very charming but functional. We cooked several meals there and we not lacking anything we needed. There's plenty of space to feed a larger family and separate areas if folks need space. The lake is very shallow with a sandy bottom and relatively clear water. Good for wading and morning/evening kayaking. During the week days the water is pretty quiet but very busy with jet skis and pontoons during the weekend/holiday (as expected). There are lot's of places to sit and enjoy the lake environment. Or if you need to get out there are a number of great places to hike nearby. We had a nice relaxing stay.

Beautiful Cottage on a Beautiful Lake! Great stay!
Just loved this cottage. The lake was beautiful and the water unbelievably clear. The cabin they call Heritage Cottage is exactly as described, completely refurbished with that 100+ year old charm. Every room was just as charming as can be. Me and my kids stayed with a friend and her kids and everyone just had the best time. Todd and Barby, who are the owners were very easy going but very thorough, they provided lots of guidance and help ever though we never even saw them. The bedding is new the towels are new, and as I understand it even all the mattresses are new. I plan on returning with even more friends. Thank you Todd and Barby again for a wonderful stay. Rustic… aka needs some improvement. If you have young kids, not the best place.
Location on the lake is great, neighborhood is nice. Dock and local beach are nice. Clean sheets, linens, and bathroom. Kayaks were nice.
Needs improvement: many lights don’t work well, be prepared for mice, lots of bugs and spiders, few plug ins without covers. No air conditioner, but fans made it work. Appliances are available for cooking.
There is outdoor furniture at the fire pit, few are broken.

Please read descriptions. This house is 200 years old. The very oldest house on the lake. The staircase reflects that. Very steep, see photos. Also no AC and no insulation, just as in the description. Communication is also important. We like to keep the wildlife on the outside of the house so we'd like to hear if that changes immediately. Just like the two broken chairs by the fire pit which were immediately replaced. Help us help you. 😁 Thank you.
This is actually my fifth stay at Heritage, but my first review. I just love this place. It's just as advertised in the description, 200 years of charm updated with all the comforts of home. It has perfect views, looking through the pines, above a gorgeous lake. Being my fifth stay I feel I’m almost an expert. The history of Heritage is that the living room section was built more than 200 years ago and pulled across the ice by horses and placed at the perfect spot when there was only this cabin on this sunset side of the lake. The original hardwood floors are warped and the stairs are steep, but the charm is throughout. The beds and linens are new and comfortable. The kitchen is complete for any kind of cooking and baking. The place is clean and obviously cared for. Although icy on this trip, in warmer weather this has been the perfect place for my young son to swim safely as the water is only waist deep for a long ways out on Baker Point. Pretty much every day it's the best place to take in the stunning sunsets. I will be back, hopefully every year. The historical ambience of this place alone makes it a perfect vacation destination.
This was the worst experience we’ve ever had at a vacation rental and we have rented all over.
When we arrived, the upstairs smelled so terrible. We discovered a dead mouse on the rug, and it was not fresh. There were mouse droppings throughout the house. There was mouse poison on the kitchen floor just in sight and reach of our toddler. It was not ok. Overall, the rest of the cottage was dirty. The linens and towels did appear clean.
We were very disappointed to come back to visit our hometown area to be treated so poorly by the host and VRBO. My uncle even made the signs for the owner for the property. We contacted the host and then VRBO about the stench and dead rodent the first day and talked to customer service every day of our stay thereafter to receive a refund and find a habitable place to stay for our vacation. The host offered to send housekeeping the next day. If it had been indicated in the listing that there was a rodent infestation and poison out, we would never have booked.
Needless to say, we were unable to stay at this location and enjoy our vacation.

Obviously we are very disappointed to receive this very negative review. Certainly not all of this is true. We have local manager in Lake Nebagamon and local housekeeping. We are also aware that there was no early checkout. The cabin was inspected by Douglas County Dept. of Health and Human Services after this visit and found to have no infestation and passed all sanitary conditions for licensing. It is certainly possible that a mouse entered and was killed by our pet and child safe rodent control which we keep active throughout the season precisely to prevent any infestations. We would of course have made things right one way or another if what she said was true, however when I asked if I could send someone to assess the situation she would no longer respond. Possible she was just looking for a free stay considering she says she was pressing VRBO for refund but not communicating with us. In any case we have doubled our pest control. This of course does not mean there will never be a mouse or chipmunk that finds it's way in, but we do take this concern seriously being a two hundred year old lake house in the woods. As far as housekeeping we have also upgraded just to be certain we remain vigilant . We are using Atomic Cleaning Services, known to be the best in the area. If you do choose to stay with us we can guarantee that we will always do our best to make your stay a good one, communication is key.
Thank you and happy vacationing.
Heritage House is charming and historic (yes, the floors are uneven), and it won’t take you long to fall under it’s spell. The beds are very comfortable with nicely appointed bed linens. My children loved bunking together in the upstairs bed room with lake views. The kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked (dishes/pots/pans/etc. and plush towels/soap/shampoo/conditioner), and even the water pressure is great.
The lake is crystal clear and is great for swimming. The property has a well-maintained canoe and kayaks with life jackets. (We brought our own infant and children life jackets).
Bring warm pajamas for chilly evenings (although heaters and fans are provided), beach towels, and an eye mask if you want to sleep in. Better yet, enjoy your coffee at the end of the dock at dawn. It’s magical.
Finally, Todd is super responsive and helpful…thank you for a great stay!
We love Lake Nebagamon! It has plenty for our little family and when we want something more Superior/Duluth is not far away. Love all the water-craft included with this property and the house itself is charming and very well organized. Lots of little touches to make the stay very easy.
Our family just spent the week at Heritage Point, and it was wonderful! The house is old, and very charming, but drafty at night. Bring warm pajamas! It was a quiet spot on a beautiful lake. Nice to have the sandbar just off of the dock for the kids to play! Dog friendly as well! Look forward to visiting again!
Loved the provided boats, beds were comfy, and the house was convenient to town by water or car. The house was charming, although the floors and doors were wonky, and the stairs up to the loft were very steep. Not a negative, but just know what to expect.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Heritage Cottage! The photos do not do it justice - it's a gorgeous historic property complete with all the rustic quirks you'd expect from a house that is quite old, which is exactly what we were looking for but might not be everyone's choice (we'd much rather stay in a place with character than a cookie-cutter hotel).
A few things of note that I didn't notice in other reviews: the beds are lovely and comfortable, there is a charming collection of kitschy mugs for your morning coffee, the stairs to the lofted bedroom are quite steep and shallow, you should expect to be hot/cold based on the temperature outside, there's a friendly outdoor cat who likes to prowl around looking for chipmunks, and there are very few curtains on any windows so you can enjoy views of the lake/woods and you should also be ready to wake up with the sun.
The lake is absolutely beautiful and the area off the dock is perfect for swimming in (not weedy at all), though we did also use and enjoy the public beach. We canoed around the lake and got very close to two courting/mating loons, which was pretty incredible to see. It was a great location for birdwatching in general.
The Eagle's Nest was occupied during our stay, but we never felt too close to anyone and had no issues with the sharing of the swing/firepit/dock/boats - we definitely felt secluded even with those curtain-less windows.
We'd highly recommend spending a day (or part of it) hiking at Amnicon Falls - just gorgeous! - and picking up pizza from Round Up North which is only a 15 minute drive away in Brule.
So glad we stayed here! A great vacation spot for our family.
A very cozy and well equipped cabin. Thank goodness for the electric fire place and oil heaters. Temperatures dropped to the 30's at night but we were able to stay warm.
The Heritage cabin provided a unique and comfortable base for exploring the local hiking trails and beaches. The dock was perfect for swimming and the kayaks and canoe provided hours of fun for the kids. We loved our time there, and would recommend to anyone, especially if you need to keep kids busy while you relax with a book
The description was very accurate, but I don't think it took enough credit for the excellent swimming area. That is at the top of our young family's wish list when we pick our vacation spot. The kids spent hours jumping off the dock. There is a ladder at the end and there is lots of firm sandy area for wading or floating. There are a lot of road miles for safe biking too. This lake didn't seem to be a very great fishing lake which we were ok with because of the swimming, but the Brule river is very close and has excellent fishing options that we took advantage of every early morning. We also kayaked the Brule one full day. The town is a gem as well. Even though we had great swimming at the cabin we also checked out the public beach which is the nicest I've seen.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Heritage Cottage. The proximity to the lake was perfect and we appreciated being able to use the paddle boat and kayaks, especially. My husband and I both commented on how very comfortable the bed in the porch was. So cozy. We would recommend this property for sure!
We had a great stay in this charming old house. The furnishings and decor are also charming and welcoming. We enjoyed the Shoot the Moon game and the round table was perfect for playing our favorite card games. The fire pit area was very nice and it was great having the canoe and kayaks. Great location close to town, too!

Wonderful cabin and great location!
The cabin is just as described in the listing. Well stocked kitchen and towels! It is beautifully maintained and decorated. The lake was perfect; big enough for fishing but also great for paddling. We had a ton of fun with the boats which were well maintained and easily accessible. Paddling to town was super quick (5 minutes) and had restaurants, DQ, grocery, and a nice public beach. Although, other then the beach for my three boys, we didn't utilize the town because the cabin and location were so amazing. Fabulous fire pit and picnic area, swing over looking the lake, quiet dock in the evening. Nice yard on the side of the cabin for yard games, etc. Would return in a heartbeat!

The Perfect Vacation
The Heritage cottage is so cute. I'm told it's over 200 years old but it is bright and charming. Everything was put together perfectly, from the new bedding and mattresses to the complete kitchen. They told us to just show up with food and clothing and they were right. We loved our stay. Todd and Barby really really thought of everything and Todd was on top of all of our correspondence right away and had answers to all our questions. Beautiful place on a beautiful lake. We will be back.

Wonderful Getaway with tons of close day trips!
The cottage was so cute. It has so much historic charm with a modern designer touch! Very peaceful lake and the boats were fun to use! The kitchen comes fully stocked with any pans, dishes or utensils you could need--just bring your food! They also have a gas grill available for use which was really nice to have! We will definitely go back!

Why they chose this property
This is the oldest cabin on the lake. The lumberjacks choose this beautiful spot among the pines for good reason. More than a 150 years ago it was pulled across the ice during the winter and placed on this property. Even the lumber jacks new that this was the best property on the lake. When you start using the lake you will see why. Baker Point has a sand bar less than 4 feet deep which runs several hundred feet straight out from shore. On both sides of this point there are gradual drop-offs. This makes for the perfect spot for fishing as well as swimming and learning to ski for young children.
