St. John's Rest did not Dissapoint!

Our 2nd stay at St. John's Rest proved to be just as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable, than our first. The cleanliness and cozy comfort of the home, convenience of a backyard filled with snow, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen, variety of toys and games - all of this contributed to yet another wonderful stay. We can't wait to stay again next winter!

Always a great stay!!

We have stayed previously. This trip did not disappoint. Best stay yet. We had a tremendous amount of snow. The backyard makes for the perfect sledding getaway. The house is very well equipped and cozy.

Beautiful home and a wonderful time!!!!!

This is the second year in a row that we have stayed at this property, and have plans to continue coming to the same place as long as it is available! This house is extremely clean and so welcoming - and the amenities are plentiful. Plenty of towels, many appliances available, etc.......very equipped with everything you might need. Everything is there to make your stay as comfortable as anyone could be!!! We have rented several cabins over the years in the summer and winter, but this is the only cabin we have ever stayed in and want to return to over and over again!!!!!

Great stay in extremely comfortable home.

The property is perfect for 2 couples or families and has plenty of sleeping space for everyone. My children loved the bunk beds and all of the toys that the owner allows guests to use that are his grandchildren's. The new BBQ grill on the big deck is amazing and we BBQ'd quite often. The property is well apportioned with all necessary utensils and oils and spices for cooking which is great as we ate there often. The owner Ed is extremely friendly and attentive and even shared ideas on spots for us to take the kids to swim, hike, and play. Overall great experience and we will be returning.

The Snowiest Truckee Stay Ever

Sooooo much snow!!! St Johns Rest was perfect for a white Christmas. The hill in the back yard was great to keep the kids and some adults busy during the snowiest winter we’ve ever seen. The house had games for the kids on their breaks from snow and the kitchen had necessities for family meals. The snow plow came by daily to help keep roads and drive way clear (had to shovel in front of the garage which is no problem). Ed (the owner) was easy to contact when I had any questions (which was many). Only down side, there were a few neighbors from up the road (not sure if they were visitors like us or actual residents) trying to slide down the sledding hill that we worked hard to dig out and maintain with all the snow we had. While we were there, we had about 3-4 feet of snow. Mahalo for a great winter :)

Cozy home, wonderful location

St John's Retreat is a wonderful home away from home. It was our first time staying there and we were not disappointed. The home is located on a quiet back street and backs up to open space so it is restful and serene. Even so, being located in Tahoe Donner it is close to restaurants, numerous ski areas, etc. The backyard is perfect for sledding in the winter ---and since there was a big snow our daughter had the chance to try it out! Ed, the owner provided all of the information we needed before, during and after our stay and was always very responsive when we contacted him. The home was clean, well maintained and well appointed with all the necessities and then some (including games, some movies, etc). Usually when we visit Tahoe we eat out a few nights but this time we decided to cook the entire time we were there--one reason was the snow and the other was that the home was so cozy and well equipped we didn't want to leave after a day of skiing! And an added treat was the wood stove. We truly couldn't have been more pleased with our stay, will recommend it to friends, and will definitely be back again!

Fabulous Vacation!

This was such a wonderful place to stay - I book places to stay according to the reviews on the property.....the reviews on this property were wonderful and every review was true!!! I've stayed at several cabins and/or homes over the years, but this home is by far the best one ever. It seemed much larger than it is - the open area is so spacious so everyone can spread out with no problem and enjoy each other's company. The beds were very comfortable, with plenty of linens for everyone - plenty of towels and plenty of everything you might need. It had a lot of really nice touches for everyone to enjoy - you truly felt like a pampered guest in this home. The cleanliness was unbelievable!! The furniture was so comfortable with plenty of room for everyone to relax. The kitchen is so spacious - again, the floor plan was so open that it was easy to cook together and visit with each other all at the same time. We actually had some snow to play in, and it snowed while we were there so we were able to enjoy the beauty of this area. The woodstove was an added bonus - definitely makes it toastier! If we come back to the Truckee area, I would absolutely stay here again! Thank you so much for sharing your home with all of us!

Well stocked home, perfect location

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. Ed was terrific with communication. You can tell his home is well kept and maintained. Have stayed at many rentals in the Truckee area and have never found a home as well stocked as this. From the expected pantry staples and pots, pans, etc. to the crock pot, popcorn popper, and baking supplies, if you need it this home has it available. The rooms were very nice with comfortable beds. Lots of extra blankets around if needed and an abundance of extra towels available. Really appreciate the small extras that often would be overlooked. The hair dryers, step stool for smaller children in the bathroom, and the first aid supplies. At one point we needed to utilize the first aid supplies and this is definitely something you don't fully appreciate until you need it. We did experience some harsh weather and lost power for a day during our stay. Thankfully the wood stove worked very well and kept us very warm (overly so at times), definitely no risk of being cold during a power outage. With such an amazing area right outside the back deck there wasn't much time to dwell on the lack of power. Everyone spent the day making snowmen and building and perfecting some pretty impressive sled runs, complete with banked turns. Already there is talk about how we can improve these next time. We will definitely be back, thank you Ed!

Lovely home with a scenic backyard with a little sledding trail in back. Thank you!

Thank you for such a comfortable and well equipped home. We used the snow saucers and damaged one, which we replaced. All towels are washed and I think you’ll enjoy how nicely we left your house.

Cozy snow getaway

The house was perfect for our little family of three. Child and I had a lot of fun sledding down the hill in the back. Guests from other houses were coming to the back of this house to sled and play as well. I am not sure if this is common in the neighborhood or we got unlucky … There are many houses in the area, so you won’t feel like you are away from it all but it is easy to get to and the house was well appointed. Everything was as described. Kitchen is updated and very nice. We made a lot of yummy meals. There aren’t food delivery options, so you should be prepared to cook meals or go into town in Truckee. Safeway is about a mile away for grocery shopping. The wood stove looked cool but we didn’t use it. Bathrooms are small and not updated but we wanted two working toilets, and shower and toilets worked well. Beds were very comfortable. The property owner was very responsive, friendly, and helpful. Master bedroom had room darkening curtains. Not many vacation rentals have this, so we appreciated it. Other rooms have light filtering shades. We enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely beautiful, well stocked, and comfortable cabin in Tahoe Donner area.

The owners of this cabin have it very well laid out to accommodate families with a very well laid out house and well stocked kitchen with all the cooking supplies you could imagine. The cabin is nicely located off Hwy 80 in Truckee and nicely situated between Sugar Bowl resort to the west or Northstar to the northeast. We loved the fire place and comfortable front room that allowed us to relax in the evening and enjoy each others company.without feeling like we were on top of each other. All of the bedrooms were nicely appointed and comfortable. We will be going there again!

Great Truckee-Donner family getaway

We stayed here in July, two families, two couples and a 6 year old. The house was totally comfortable, neat and clean, and met our needs. Two king beds, quite a treat for our tall family! Plus a Queen and a set of twin bunk beds. Plus there's an extra twin mattress under the bottom bunk and a queen aerobed. If you use the aerobed it would have to be put in the living room. Once you climb the stairs the front drive or the garage to enter the main part of the house the living/sleeping is all on one level which my husbands and my old knees appreciated. Great deck out back with BBQ, chairs, and a good sized dining table. The kitchen was well supplied, we had an additional 4 adults, one child over for dinner and had plenty of dishes and serving pieces for all. And had an enjoyable dinner on the back deck. We appreciated having keurig coffee pods, hot chocolate mix, basic spices, olive oil and condiments already there in the house. We were entertained by tiny squirrels (look like chipmunks) running all around the open area in back during the day and my grandson and adult kids loved walking up the path and through the common area through the back yard and beyond. There were extra bath towels, paper towels, kleenex, TP, cleaning/laundry supplies - very much appreciated. Extra folding table/chairs in garage and you got to park in the garage. We enjoyed the provided access to the community swimming pools and to the Donner Lake beach and kayak rentals. This was a great home for our family getaway and I would highly recommend it to others.

We are Sonoma County, California natives. We both work for our family business, Pedroncelli Winery. We began visiting Tahoe Donner in the 90's with some friends who have a home here. Then another friend bought here. We were sold!
Our son and daughter-in-law and two grandsons live outside Reno--this is the perfect way to see them without invading their space...we encourage them to invade ours!
This is our second home in TD. We love it here. Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall there is no limit to the activity available just outside the door. Sometimes, though, we enjoy just staying in. Our home is the ideal place to just relax. It's what we do every chance we get. We hope you'll enjoy our home as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We chose this property for a few reasons--number one was its seclusion. It's on a dead-end street, off and away from any busy thoroughfares. Additionally, the way the house sits on the lot we get both morning and afternoon sun--the sun gleaming through the windows just makes you feel alive. Watching the moon set while lieing in bed is also quite a delight.
Check out the path out the backdoor. It leads to a special place for meditation, or a great snowball fight!

What makes this property unique

This is the second time we've had a vacation rental, and we use them often when we travel for business. We have 14 years experience in this area. Attention to detail and comfort of our guests is something we take very seriously.
