About this property

Breath taking water views & sunsets, a most appealing ambience throughout home

With amazing water views (some of best on Cape) this wonderfully comfortable house is lovingly furnished (Persian rugs, antiques, authentic cottage furniture, custom made coaches, chairs, day bed,and stuffed rocking chairs) and as such has a unique ambiance. Unlike the typically constructed house, Windswept is a post and beam structure (all wood inside and out) that is also an incredibly bright/light home. In addition the homeowners wanted a house that was a quintessential cape cod house from the street side view but wanted much glass on the water side of the house to to take advantage of the amazing views. It has an open floor plan (but also with niches and crannies), 15 ft. cathedral ceilings and enormous numbers of 6 ft by 6 ft windows showcase the amazing panoramic water views and spectacular sunsets. The living area is essentially a huge screened porch (if the gliders are open and the A/C off).

This house provides it all. You need only bring yourself and your own personal items as Windswept is totally set up for you to start your vacation from the moment you arrive. No making beds, lugging beach gear,or anything else for that matter. Only SHED LESS dogs are permitted.

At high tide, you look right ...out at a mesmerizing view of sailboats, skiers, and other watercraft... whether the sea is calm or in a there is ''chop''. At low tide, you will be struck by the plethora of amazing flocks of water foul (not to mention more than a few oyster gatherers). Windswept's view is looking out toward Great Island.

Windswept is close to many of Wellfeet's ocean, bay, and pond beaches, including its own. There are more bay , ocean, and pond beaches in Wellfleet nearby...more than any other town on the cape.

Windswept is within biking distance (less than a mile) of the entrance to the Cape Cod Bike Trail and about as far in the other direction to the largest Audubon Society in Massachusetts. Every day and evening you will have an abundance of activities from which to choose. There are the Shakespeare performances, nightly concerts, poetry readings, historical lectures, book signings, and much more.

The Windswept home itself has a very large open living space (LR, DR, and kitchen.) It has multiple clusters of seating areas so groups with differing agendas may enjoy an assortment of activities.... while remaining together on one floor. All floors are covered with authentic Oriental Persian rugs or hand made area rugs.

In the sitting/dining room there is a huge (4 seater) coach, a day bed, Morris chair, platform rocker, and Bose music system. This room also has a claw and ball antique table that can seat from 6 to 14 people depending on your needs. Unless watching TV or needing different rooms for different clusters of family members, this is ''everyone's'' favorite living space.

The LR also has many gliders and has equally fabulous water views. It has a seating arrangement that has 2 coaches, a large matching stuffed chair and a rocking chair. This room has the upstairs TV with an extensive cable subscription.

The new (2012) gourmet kitchen has hand made wooden counter tops, custom built shaker style cabinets made of white ash, a huge island with recycle bins, new commercial grade stainless steel appliances (gas stove), and a lovely new slate floor. ( The woodworker is hoping the kitchen will be written up in Fine Home Building Magazine as was the bathroom he did for us a couple of years ago.) The amazing lighting artwork/ fixtures in the kitchen is the signature piece of the kitchen. The kitchen is provisioned for even the most sophisticated gourmet cook (between the pots and pans, baking dishes, every gadget imaginable, and more spices than you could imagine.

In both primary living spaces, you will feel like you are sitting right ''on top'' of the bay.

There is a new double room outdoor enclosed shower with a dressing suite as well. The new outdoor shower has a private entrance from the master bedroom. There is a second outdoor shower adjacent to the back door.

The first floor has four bedrooms. The MB has a king size bed with a Temper-Pedic mattress and three 6 foot by 6 foot glider windows showcasing more fabulous water views. Also, the MB has its own sitting area, cable TV, a second Bose Music System, and its own master bath. The other three bedrooms all have access to the main bath off the center hall. One bedroom can be set up with a king size bed or two twin beds, another bedroom has a set of twin beds and the fourth bedroom has a double bed. All beds (other than MB have either custom made mattresses which are usually comfortably and always commented on.

At Windswept, the vacationer will have access to umpteen non fiction books about Wellfleet and Cape Cod. There are always plenty of top ten recent fictional books and fictional books either written by local authors and/or set in local cape cod settings.

Our goal is to provide a unique home to Cape Cod vacationers. We are committed to insuring that Windswept provides a feeling of casual luxury, a home with exceptional water views, and a home that is exceedingly welcoming upon arrival. The house has a team of cleaning people including the owners who spend at least 24 hours between departing and arriving guests, cleaning/readying the house for our incoming guests. You, the vacationer, need only begin your relaxing, special and comfortable vacation. Every bed is made up with 600+ percale cotton sheets. Every room has been cleaned from top to bottom. Windswept provides beach towels, bathroom towels, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards, and other items upon request. It is our hope and wish that, with the fabulous breezes, the comfortable and luxurious feel of the house, and the majestic views, you, our guest, will feel immediately upon arrival.

Windward forever!

We had a magnificent week staying at Windward in Wellfleet. The property and setting was even better than the photos and the owners could not have been better hosts. My parents- 86 and 91- enjoyed the master bedroom and spent days out of the sun on the lower patio enjoying spectacular views of Pleasant Point and Great Island. The rest of us enjoyed days lounging on the second floor enjoying the cozy spaces, fabulous kitchen and spectacular views. Windward is a real home- and becomes that for the people who stay there. We will treasure our memories of this week - and so grateful to Elisabeth and David for taking care of us- and their lovely Wellfleet retreat.

We had a wonderful week at this beautifully maintained home that had clear views of the water. Everything was spotless, tastefully decorated, and clearly cared for with love. The house was stocked with absolutely everything you could possibly need — from plenty of fresh towels and toiletries for the showers to a fully equipped kitchen. Because the home is so nicely appointed, families with young children will want to be mindful, but it’s a lovely space for creating special memories together. The location was great. A short walk took us to a nearby marsh area full of fascinating ocean wildlife — we spotted crabs, shorebirds, and other beautiful coastal creatures. Wellfleet area has lots of fun places like an animal sanctuary and drive-in movie theatre. This is truly a great home for a relaxing family getaway.

Well loved house with great amenities and an incredible view

This house offers a lot (well equipped kitchen, great bathrooms, lovely deck, big table, comfy chairs, tons of beach equipment, etc) in a relatively small space. Small children will need lots of supervision (I was warned!) and if you are a big group you may feel a bit crowded. But the neighborhood is great for walking and the view is phenomenal. Plus, getting the place perfect for renters appears to be a passion project for the owners and nothing that could be done to make your stay more comfortable is neglected. Has a 'charming B&B feel' with great sheets, towels, etc. We ahd a great week.

Magical stay in South Wellfleet!

This was truly the most magical vacation home we have ever stayed in. The views alone are enough to recommend this home, but there is much, much more. The house is fully stocked with absolutely everything you could ever want or need - from cooking supplies to towels, extra blankets, plenty of beach reads, and even a personal caddy for every guest that includes all the things you might forget, like sunscreen, shampoo, aloe, and razors. The decor is casual and elegant with plenty of seating for a spectacular view of the marsh - whether from inside on a cloudy day or sitting on the deck, or on the hammock in the ample front yard. The Ingrams have thought of everything to make guests feel welcomed and cared for. We have already booked our stay for next summer and cannot wait to return.

Relaxation at its finet!

Watching the ever changing landscape of the tidal marsh, gorgeous sunset cocktail hour on the deck, plenty of comfy couches for lounging and reading and every detail thought of sums up our week. Elisabeth and Doug have created a beautiful oasis and are super conscientious in ensuring you have the best, more carefree vacation at their house. This is the 7th house I've rented on the Cape over the last 20 years and definitely the best. Honestly the photos don't capture the specialness of this home.

Great House, Amazing Views

This is one of the most stunning homes I've seen on the Cape. The sweeping views from both the living and bedroom levels (2 of 4 bedrooms) exceeded my hopes and dreams. It is a very comfortable and expansive living area and the kitchen is equipped with everything imaginable. There is also a lovely deck with ample seating and a dining table so you can enjoy a cocktail meal or just relax in the sun. If you have the opportunity to rent this house, GRAB IT!

Glorious Week at Windward

My wife and I stayed at Windward for seven nights at the beginning of July. In one word, our experience was "exceptional." Elisabeth and Doug were wonderful, attentive, hosts who provided is with all the information about Windward that made the week fly by. So the sunsets from the deck are amazingly beautiful; the changes in the bay waters are a wonder to behold; the accoutrements in the house are very tastefully and aesthetically pleasing; very user-friendly kitchen, SPOTLESS house, quiet, and serene. Close to restaurants and five minute drive to center Wellfleet. We highly recommend staying ate Windward. What a find!

Great Cape Stay

This impressively updated Cape house has a beautiful view on the bay side and is close to many things on the lower Cape. It was perfect for a visit with kids, grandkids and relatives. We aged from 2 to 86. It was well set up for socializing, cooking or heading out to explore. It is near one of the Audobon sanctuaries for any birders. Everything worked very well and grill and washer/dryer were especially appreciated. There is sun on the deck or shade below depending on time of day. The owner will check in with you periodically to see if you need anything(information or other) and is most gracious.

Immaculate!

Besides the spectacular views and incredible sunsets over the water, we loved the care the owners have taken in presenting this property. The kitchen is fitted out as if the owners live there - the first time I've found a garlic press in a vacation rental. Bathrooms include soaps and shampoos etc, like a luxury hotel. The house was immaculately clean. Cape houses can sometimes feel damp and musty. Not this house! This was our first time to Wellfleet and we fell in love with the location. This is a quiet neighborhood with water access and it's an easy walk down the road to a beach. A 3 minute drive from Marconi beach. We fell in love and hope to return.

PEACEFUL

Windward was just a great home for our get away week in Wellfleet. The house is truly a home made cozy and comfortable by Elizabeth and Doug. There is all one needs for a relaxing vacation from the great upgraded kitchen with every conceivable tool or gadget, to the comfortable beds to the stylish remodeled bathrooms. The two days of fog/rain/drizzle made no difference to us as we settled in “at home” watching the changing tides, sky and weather from the house. Those two days made the bright sunny days even better. . Best words to describe Windward.....Warm, cozy, comfortable . Thank you Elizabeth and Doug.

Beautiful Windward

After being hunkered down all spring and summer, we decided we needed a change in scenery. We found the listing for Windward, and immediately knew this would be the place to find some serenity and natural beauty. We were not disappointed in the least!. The house if fantastic, just what you think of when you envision a house on Cape Cod overlooking the bay with an unobscured view. The owners took everything into account and made it very easy by equipping the house with everything you would need. We spent the days driving around and coming upon picturesque beaches and coves, exploring the other towns, and just plain old relaxing. We had some cloudy days and rain, but it didn't matter - the peace and quiet and listening to the rain fall onto the roof while a fire was going in the fireplace and lounging around reading or napping on one the many comfortable seating arrangements in the house worked out just fine for us. We have been to Wellfleet a number of times, but this was by far the best experience we have had and would not hesitate to again to take advantage of all that Windward, Wellfleet and the Outer Cape have to offer. You will not be disappointed! Thank you to the owners for sharing their "special place". Cape Cod is beautiful off season!

A Peaceful Retreat

Upon arriving at Windward and pulling into the shell driveway, my sister and I saw a quintessential Cape Cod home in a beautiful setting overlooking the water. Already we could feel the peace that surrounds this place. But stepping through the front door of this home immediately brings its wonderful character to life! Up the oriental carpeted stairway, to the left is a gourmet kitchen. Top-of-the-line appliances and everything else one could possibly need - from every imaginable utensil - to small appliances - to an array of alphabetized spices stretching across a shelf from one end of the kitchen to the other! Off the kitchen is the dining room with a huge table for eight. And views. OH THE VIEWS! The website photos cannot do them justice. Every nook and cranny holding books, dried flowers, candles, more books, and then a clock that also shows the timing of the high and low tides - immediately putting you in tune with nature here. Watching the tide come in and out, and sharing wine together seeing the awe-inspiring sunsets each evening was heaven. Then, off the kitchen and dining room is a living area where comfy couches and chairs stuffed with pillows and throws abound -- with MORE VIEWS! On the first floor of this reverse living home are four warmly decorated bedrooms. Each one is color coordinated with finishing touches like extra quilts and shams, simple but lovely window coverings, and colorfully decorated wall tiles. I slept in the Master Bedroom and never closed the curtains at night. What a joy to wake up in the morning in a big, comfortable bed and see those VIEWS! The renovated bathrooms are amazing. Beautiful fixtures, clean as a whistle (as is the entire home) and fluffy towels all ready for each guest. When we arrived, we met Doug, a soft-spoken, charming man who gave us a quick but thorough tour of the home to get us acquainted. We were not able to meet Elisabeth, but I texted her on occasion and she was immediately receptive and gave us great recommendations for hikes and dining. They did not miss a thing at Windward to make it comfortable and enjoyable - it truly is a sanctuary, a peaceful retreat, which we all need especially right now, if only for a short while.... Thank you Doug and Elisabeth! We can't wait to return!

A little piece of heaven.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Windward. The setting of the home right on the tidal marsh and the style of the home itself were incredibly dreamy and relaxing. The furnishings were charming and cozy, with the rooms being of nice proportion. There were ample spots where one could retreat and curl up with a book and a glass of wine. The owners keep a very well stocked kitchen, and items are stored in a manner that is easy to understand and access. The roominess of both the kitchen and the dining area made eating in a delight. The bathrooms are modern and elegant while still maintaining a rustic charm. The level of cleanliness in the home was so impressive and thoroughly appreciated by my family, as we have some allergy sufferers. The owners clearly love this home and do everything they can to make renters feel like they are at an inn. Everything is thought of, from the stock of toilet paper to the toiletries provided. We could not have been more delighted with the amenities, the features and the location of this property.

5 star rating. Property as described. During a 3 week stay as many as 6 adults and 4 children ( ages 4 to 12) were comfortably accommodated. Perhaps not a property for active children as the grounds around the house are protected.Perfect for a beach/lake vacation .Beaches and lakes are within a 10 to 20 minute drive. I loved the shades that kept the house cool but yet allows you to see the great views . I am an avid reader so I loved the reading nook I ended up reading 5 books while enjoying the view . I am a semiretired clinical phycologist who specializes in children, adolescent and family counseling challenges. As experienced at Windward one can see that I am passionate about interior decorating and quality of workmanship. I have loved Wellfleet my whole adult life and have experienced it to be one of the most unique outer cape communities because of its many beaches, cultural activities, theater options, Audubon Society, activities for children, its downtown village charm, many exquisite restaurants coupled with very family oriented ones, the people who vacation here return summer after summer.

Why they chose this property

Windward sits on the narrowest band of Cape Cod making it easy to access bay, ocean and pond beaches. We carefully chose this piece of property to build and design Windward because of its location. Windward sit on top of a high dune giving it a commanding view of Cape Cod Bay. It always has fabulous breezes off the water and an amazing sunset. Windward is situated in a non-rental part of Wellfleet and therefore is quiet and peaceful.

Because Windward is on the bay side, the water views are constantly changing. At high tide there is 15ft of ocean water allowing many sail boats and kayaks to explore the bay creating one of Wellfleet's picture perfect views. Equally as spell binding, low tide provides the amazing display of a plethora of birds foraging the sea bottom.

It was also important for us to build a house that combined a feeling of being in an original cape cod home (quaint and charming) but also to provide a feeling of spaciousness and to provide a plush but understated décor by furnishing the house with original cottage furniture and/or antiques, Oriental carpets, and lots of custom built and overstuffed chairs and couches. If you are a fine homebuilding buff, you will also appreciate the wide planking that we located for the building of the interior walls. Also, the joinery work and the details in the joints of the post and beam construction are fascinating. Of course, we also designed the house to take maximum advantage of the amazing and expansive views.

As you will also see, Windward is a home that is cherished; and as such we are continually updating and adding new amenities. We continue to update both the infrastructure of the house as well as to continue updating the more aesthetic features of Windward. In addition, you may find that Windward is the cleanest home you have ever rented. Every spring season we clean every square inch of the house over a several week period.

What makes this property unique

The magnificent water view.
The spectacular sunsets.
The owner provides: linens, beach blankets and towels, beach umbrellas, beach chairs, basic kitchen provisions such as flour, sugar, baking powder, salt/pepper, etc.

Two zone air conditioning system, one for each floor.
Custom built gourmet kitchen centrally located so chef/cook can interact with people in the living room, dining room, and den.
The upper deck railing was designed for un-obstructed water views.
