Built in the 1890's, the Libby House sits in a tree-filled, sunny neighborhood abutting the historic residential district that was once home to a colony of summer "rusticators" comprised of New York Philharmonic Orchestra luminaries.
Location! The Libby House is one of the largest rental properties in downtown Bar Harbor proper, offering 5 bedrooms (7 beds) and 3 full baths, parking for several vehicles, and sizable, verdant grounds filled with a variety of flowering trees and bushes.
The central business district, with numerous shopping, entertainment, and dining options, as well as the ocean, town beach, Shore Path, Village Green, local museums, and the main station for the complimentary Island Explorer shuttle are a (genuine) 3-5 minute walk away. Once settled in this central location, most guests find they can leave their cars parked for the duration of their stay, avoiding the traffic congestion and parking fees that are common to Bar Harbor in the summer.
Although almost everything that you will want to see or do in downtown Bar Harbor is a quick walk away, the property is well-sheltered from the noise, congestion and lights of the downtown. The house offers contemporary features and comforts while also retaining a number of historic touches such plaster walls, hard-wood floors, detailed trim, claw-foot tubs, and ornate light fixtures. The Libby House is equipped with high-speed internet WIFI, digital satellite TV, and a DVD player. A collection of board games, puzzles and several dozen books are also available to help pass the time.
The grounds are quite spacious, affording considerable room for children to play. Some of our favorite activities include taking an early morning walk on the shore path, grilling on the back deck, enjoying a cocktail around the firepit, and catching a band concert on the nearby Village Green.
During our peak season, guests have access to the entire house, except the cellar, a storage room on the 2nd floor, and the adjacent garage and barn. During our off-season, access to part of the second floor is closed (suspending the use of 1 Queen bedroom, 1 double Twin bedroom and one full bath). This section of the house is open and available but not accessible UNLESS expressly booked.
We do not wish to disturb our guests during their stay. We will not welcome you at your arrival, but we live nearby and are always available to answer questions, tend to any issues that arise, or make recommendations.

Overall good house. The pluses are excellent location, very quiet and serene outdoor space in the back and front of house. The minuses is that it could have been stocked just a little bit better.
Perfect place to stay in Bar Harbor for a group! We were a group of friends for a girl’s trip to see the New England fall colors (ages 30s-70s. It was the PERFECT location and the house was great for our group! Lots of spaces to gather as a group, yet enough for us all the spread out and have space.the host provided some great information about local bakeries, restaurants, and things to do/see. Highly reccomend!
This was a second house for our large women’s hiking group. It was ideal for relaxing and gathering in smaller groups. One bedroom with two twins and a room with a queen are part of a suite in which you have to go through the twin bedroom to get to the queen This could be a great family suite because it has its own bath but it’s not ideal for a group of friends.
Our stay was amazing! The house was super cute and had so much character. We loved the giant dining room table for big meals and board games. The outdoor space was beautiful with lots of seating and grass for yard games. The location was perfect! It's in the center of downtown with easy access to shops, restaurants, grocery store and the bus into the park. The host was easy to communicate with and quick to respond to text messages. I highly recommend this property and we would definitely stay there again. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
The location can’t be beat. The setting is quiet and relaxing. All of us were comfortable, but there are some areas that need attention. New mattresses would help. I appreciate the preservation of an old house, but some upgrades to the upstairs baths and kitchen sink area would make it more comfortable. Communication with Seth was great and mid week when we asked for more paper goods they were dropped off the next morning. There were six adults and four children sharing the house and paper goods went quickly. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer, too.
Hello, great experience staying at the Libby House. The location is perfect, can walk to several restaurants, the waterfront, and the sand bar within a few minutes. But, it's tucked away so you definitely have privacy from the business of town. The house was spacious for our two families that included four kids. They enjoyed playing the yard as well. Appreciated the laundry machines as well as grill and kitchen items. Would recommend bringing some basic kitchen items if you are able to but other than that, we appreciated having such a nice home for our vacation.
This wonderful home has plenty rooms for all our young adult kids to have their own space. One room with twin beds is large enough to easily fit a a pack & play without crowding the room at all. The living room with three couches quickly became the place to hang out and chat. We all enjoyed the lovely backyard with large deck and tables and chairs and the separate area with a beautiful fire pit. The house is great, but the best part is the location!!! Within a couple minutes, we could walk to all the restaurants and shops and the waterfront!! I don’t see how the location could be any better! We would definitely stay at this house again!
The Libby House was a perfect base for a week in Bar Harbor with a focus on Acadia’s eastern region. It’s very quiet despite being only a block away from the main shopping area. We went to the park every day on the shuttle and didn’t need to use our car. The house has many bedrooms and everybody had enough space. The only possible complaint was that my teenagers wanted more 3-prong outlets in the upstairs bedrooms. :-)
It was exactly as the pictures portray it and the location could not be better for access to all that is offered in Bar Harbor. We really enjoyed our stay there.
The Libby House provided everything we needed for our week in Bar Harbor - very convenient location to walks, stores, restaurants - plus a wonderfully quiet home and large backyard to relax in. The newly added pergola was used by us everyday! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We have stayed at the Libby House twice, and loved it both times. The location is wonderful, the house is clean and comfortable, and the backyard is lovely. It works well for three generations of our family to have a great vacation, and we look forward to visiting again!
We had a wonderful, quiet Christmas getaway in Bar Harbor at The Libby House. The house is hidden from the Main St by a bank, which at first didn't sound too endearing, but it is perfectly placed so one can easily walk to the shops and to the harbor and walkway, there, and, yet, still it feels very private. And it was very easy to access Acadia NP. The house was the best stocked VRBO house we have visited and every request made prior to arriving was answered. Seth even produced a live, lit, Christmas tree for our pleasure. Might just become an annual event for us!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Libby House in Bar Harbor. Location is great. We were able to easily walk everywhere and close to everything, but tucked away in a quiet and private spot too. Wonderful house - we will definitely stay here again!
We were in town for my sister-in-law’s wedding and we rented the house for us, our three children and my husbands parents. The house was absolutely beautiful and very cozy. The beds were all amazingly comfortable and we all slept great during our stay. We all agreed we wished we weren’t so busy with wedding festivities so that we could of enjoyed the house and large yard more together. This house is perfect for multiple generations or families to gather together and with easy walking distance of the town. We would 100% stay again on any future trips to Bar Harbor.
