Many lovely coves for swimming and relaxing. Most with a handful of restaurants that offer authentic Spanish cuisine. Not a chip shop in sight! Five minutes drive to several beaches nearby, including Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Fornells and Aiguablava.
Girona, Spain is closest airport, just 45km to house. Fly cheap on Ryanair from most UK airports. Also EasyJet to Barcelona. Barcelona airport is a 90 mins - 2 hour drive from the house. From USA, Continental has direct flights from Newark, NJ to Barcelona.
One mile drive or walk to centre of Begur. Other villages and towns like medieval Pals are only a 10 min drive. Day trips to Salvador Dali's home and museum are well worth the 1/2 hour drive to Pubol or 1 hour drive to Figueres. Further out on the coast, visit his summer home in Cadaques, a beautiful little fishing village. Girona is a lovely medieval, walled city with a stunning cathedral. Walk the town walls and see the university. Great shopping, restaurants and easy parking that's free!
We have a property manager in Begur who can help with questions about the area or the property. He speaks excellent English, French, Dutch, Spanish and Catalan. In addition, the tourist information office in the town is outstanding. It is recommended that guests hire a car for their entire stay, in order to get the most out of this extraordinarily beautiful area. A few guests have, however, gone without a car and made do with a combination of buses, taxis and walking. During the high season, there is a regular bus every half hour from the town centre to the main beaches at Sa Riera and Aiguablava.

About Gerard DeGroot
We live in the magical Scottish town of St Andrews where Jerry is a history professor and a freelance journalist and Sharon runs her own media relations business, with clients in the oil, high tech and tourist industries. We have two children, aged 20 and 23. We love St Andrews because of its tranquility and charm, not to mention the fact that we hardly need a car. Our home in Begur is essentially a Spanish translation of what we have in Scotland, namely a comfortable, cozy hideaway in a quiet neighbourhood, near a town that combines cutting edge classiness with intoxicating historical charm. We love travel, great food and fine wine, interests which influenced our choice when we came to buy a house in Spain. The only thing wrong with our life is that we don't get to Spain often enough.
Gerard DeGroot purchased this villa in 2004
Why Gerard DeGroot chose Begur
We had been planning to buy a house in Marbella, but were put off by the fact that it didn't seem 'real', but instead something manufactured for wealthy tourists. We happened upon Begur entirely by accident when Jerry booked a golfing holiday in Spain and had his accommodation changed at the last minute, ending up at the Hotel Aigua Blava, about 10 minutes from Begur. On the first morning, he was sitting in the charming square enjoying a coffee and phoned home to say: 'This is where we have to buy a house.' A month later the whole family came out to look for a house to buy. We were scheduled to see eight properties on the first day. Casa Buena Vista was the fifth. When we got inside and saw the stunning views, we quit looking. We had found everything we wanted.
What makes this villa unique
Every time we go to our house, we love it more and congratulate ourselves on buying it. We love the fact that we can enjoy all the benefits of one of the loveliest towns in Catalan Spain, but are still conveniently distanced from the town itself in a quiet neighbourhood walking distance away. The same goes with the beaches - they are gorgeous, but it is nice being that short distance away, especially in the summer. We love our house because, the minute we walk in the door, we get that wonderful feeling of decompression and calm. We slow down, breathe deeper, and feel no pressure to do anything other than relax. One of the nicest things about the place is being able to sit in the jacuzzi, watch the moon reflected on the Med, and just let that warm feeling of contentment engulf us.
