From being a young teenager I’d always wanted to visit Sutton Hoo. Now in my 80th year and with mobility problems, I’ve achieved my ambition. Shearer’s cottage was everything we could have wished for. Helen, our host, was friendly, helpful provided us with Additional furniture to take into account my particular needs.Being so near to the NT entrance, I was able to have several visits as we were so close to the site. Thank you!
The cottage is set in peaceful wooded location, it has lots of space and an enclosed outside area which was perfect for our pup. There is lots near by such as a gastro pub, unruly pig, lots of lovely walks, nearby fishing and golf too. Perfect for a UK get away so much so we have visted twice in 3 months and look forward to visiting again soon.

Excellent stay!
We stayed in this lovely rental for a short stay. It was easy to find, the owners were helpful and the interior was superb - really comfortable and well maintained, with great appliances and lovely touches such as soap. The welcome pack was most welcome! Lovely part of the country and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, despite the 'big' storm coming along at the end!
Very easy booking procedure. Good communication before arrival with hosts. Welcome bottle of wine and milk was lovely. The cottage was clean and well presented, spacious and comfortable.
Helen is friendly, welcoming and helpful!
The cottage is perfectly situated for those that like long dog walks, offering both costal and forest paths nearby. We have stayed here twice now, and will be returning next year
Lovely spot near Sutton Hoo, which we visited. Helen is an experienced host, who welcomed us but let us get on with our holiday. Nearby if there was a problem. Cottage was warm and inviting. Kitchen well equipped. All very good and we would be happy to come again if we were in that area! Thank you. Barbara, John and Carolyn 3 oldies

Needs some TLC
Positives are property is in a great location, walkable to Sutton Hoo & near Woodbridge. Unfortunately the property needs some TLC & attention. Namely: the shower cubicles & screens are caked in limescale deposits looking awful,we know this is a hard water area as we live in East Anglia, but this build up has just been left & left,a bottle of white vinegar & a scrub would work wonders once a month! The shower head has small squirts of water yet again choked up with limescale they need descaling urgently! Also mould growing at the back of the broken tap in the “poppy” bedroom, obviously not cleaned for a long time!
The outside area around the side entrance & the small seating area are neglected and tatty, a sweep up of all the dead leaves from autumn (it is May) & weeding of the patio area and beds would be so easy and make such a difference, lack of care. The garden furniture was shabby, stained & uncomfortable. The peace of the area and enjoying the sunny weather by sitting outside was marred for us by the owner digging big holes in the garden with a bulldozer most of Saturday and Sunday very irritating & annoying. The cottage is infested with ants, we put our food in a kitchen cupboard but found it completely infested with ants & had to throw it all away.A health hazard, there is ant powder in the cupboard so the owner must be aware but ant powder should not be used in food prep areas or near pets and children. Beds are comfy & clean, smells damp we bought scented candles
Nice place. Location good for what we needed. Thought it would be quiet, but some radio and machinery noise from the farm/neighbour. Fairly clean, though one bed had a hair in it (not belonging to guests), and there were 3 flies in the kitchen. No fly spray. Only half a loo roll on one bedroom, and I would have expected there to be a box of tissues on the main area. As a self catered cottage, some kitchen essentials were missing - no mixing bowl to make pancakes for example. No decaf coffee. Not enough sugar - had to buy own. Lot of sag in sofas.
Perfect location for our visit to Sutton Hoo, just a short walk away. Great communication from our host and we were able to check in early, which was useful. Wine and milk in the fridge was really nice touch. The property has EVERYTHING you need, games, dvds, utensils, washing liquid etc. Very comfortable bedrooms with their own en-suite and there is a day bed for larger groups which has access to a toilet. Lovely spacious comfy living area, dining table, and fenced garden area with BBQ.It really has every thing we could have wanted, a real home from home. Loved our stay
Easy check in and check out. Very spacious property. Had everything you needed. Very well locqted for the wedding we attended at woodhall manor

Helen, the owner, was helpful but I would not call this Cottage luxury. It is dated, faded and needs a deep clean with a large dose of TLC. Information and pamphlets all need to be updated. It could be such a cute spot. Right next door to Sutton Hoo and handy to Woodbridge and the Suffolk Coast.
My wife and I took our two grandsons to Sutton Hoo for their half term break. The boys found the accommodation met all their needs with plenty of space outside to play their ball games. The facilities were excellent and would be ideal for anyone having an extended stay. In the area there was much to find for our lively grandchildren plus Sutton Hoo just five minutes up the drive. Would almost certainly visit again as a couple.
We stayed here to attend a wedding at Butley Priory, and it was a wonderful stay. There was plenty of room for me, my fiancé, and my friend, and it was a very clean and comfortable environment to spend a couple of nights in. Helen was extremely accommodating and communicative, and the location right next to Sutton Hoo was fantastic
This was the second time we stayed here and it was still up to standard for what we needed. The fact it has three bathrooms was a lifesaver with two small children. It is conveniently located for Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge for shopping. Helen the host was a star in an emergency. We would definitely return.
Lovely stay. Property very well appointed and ideally located in the magnificent Suffolk countryside. Wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Helen Shand
My name is Helen Shand and I and my husband Garrow bought Castle Farm in 1987. We are from suffolk farming stock and wanted our four children to have plenty of space to play in safety. Shearers cottage was at that time an old sheep shearing shed in our front garden and we felt it would make an ideal holiday cottage. That was 24 years ago and now Shearers Cottage has been extended and re-furbished to a very high standard. We are therefore on hand if our guests need anything.
Why they chose this property
We bought Castle Farm, a 50 acre farm, to have more space for Garrow's contracting business and for our children to have plenty of space for horses, cars, bikes and loads of fun! We love this part of Suffolk as there is so much to do, the varied countryside, with woods, beautiful coastline and wide open spaces to explore, has something for everyone.
What makes this property unique
Shearers Cottage has plenty of living space and beautiful surroundings while being close to lots of Suffolk's best amenities.
