About this property

Village Cottage with an Amazing Water View

Located in Historic Castine Village with spectacular views across the harbor over to Cape Rosier and of the grand schooners coming in under full sail.

This charming, rustic but fully equipped, cottage is just sixty feet from the waters edge and has easy steps leading down to the beach.

A unique blend of a small New England town with a common and seafaring village, Castine is exceptionally picturesque. Many of its homes date back to the American Revolution and the streets remain lined with majestic, hundred year old Elm trees.

Not many towns can boast more in the way of recreation, cultural activities and community services, yet remain so unspoiled by commercial tourism. There are no traffic lights and no fast food chains but amenities include sailing, kayaking, golf, tennis, rowing, the Maine Maritime Academy fitness facilities, churches, a library, restaurants, museums, two small grocery stores, and a doctors office--all just a short stroll from Moonrise Anchorage.

Top level has a queen sized bed, and 2 single beds. There is a second small bedroom with a pop-up trundle, that can be a configured as a single bed, or 2 singles, or put together as a king-sized bed. The living-dining area has large sliding doors facing the water, which lead out to a large deck that has a a panoramic view the harbor with a charcoal grill, plenty of outdoor seating and an umbrella to provide shade. There are steps in front to take you down to the beach.

We had a lovely week in Castine at this cottage. It is very well-appointed and the light and breezes during the day were beautiful inside and out. There is a gorgeous view of the Castine Yacht Club harbor and Castine is nicely located for a variety of day trips. The town itself feels smaller than expected but its quaint and charming, and there are nice nature walks nearby. The Pentagoet Inn is definitely worth a visit. Pictures and description of the cottage have been updated since I made the reservation but there were two things I wish I’d known: 1) the one bathroom is on a different level than most of the beds, and 2) the king sized bed is a trundle bed. If you can manage either of those situations and will be in Castine, you should give this place a look.

It has a beautiful view of the bay with an easy walk to town and Maine Maritime. There is a great little deck overlooking the bay with a BBQ, a perfect place to grill.

We look forward to returning to this cottage each year! We find it especially clean and comfortable. The cottage is stocked with everything you'll need for your stay. The view is incredible and it's so easy to sit on the deck and watch the boats for hours. The breeze is perfect for sleeping with open windows. The town is beautiful and daily walks are filled with the friendliest people and stunning views.Communication with the host is quick and easy.

Beautiful Historic Town a

Weve stayed here several times and find the location to be perfect with a serene view, comfortable furnishings and a very walkable town. The cottage is always clean and communication with thw owner very easy.

We really loved our stay in Castine. The cottage was clean, comfortable and a great location. Our hostess, Janet, was super responsive. It was great for a dog, too, as the front porch/deck was fully enclosed and had full view onto the bay. I highly recommend this property!

This was our 2nd stay at this quaint cottage with an amazing view of the bay! Walking distance to everything, the harbor, restaurants, book store, small grocery and much more. Nearby hiking at Witherle Woods. Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Pentagoet Inn. Thank you for sharing your well kept, pet friendly cottage, would definitely stay here again!

Awesome place in an awesome town

Charming cottage next to the water

My family enjoyed our stay here. The balcony was quite lovely overlooking the water. There are stairs across the street down to the water. It is an easy five minute walk to Main Street in Castine.

Perfect Maine stay

We had a seamless experience with Janet and the cottage. It’s a perfect size for a small family, made all the better that we could bring our four-legged member as well. The location is within walking distance to the small center of Castine, and quick drive to the highlights of the surrounding area. We look forward to a return visit in years to come!

Delightful cottage with a view of Union River Bay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Gray Cottage. The cottage itself is well furnished, clean and comfortable. It has a wonderful view of Union River Bay. When we stayed in and took a day off from exploring the surrounding area, we simply relaxed and delighted in the view. Dee, the property manager, is easy to work with and made sure we were satisfied with the accommodations.

A wonderful week in Vacationland

This was our second stay at Janet’s property as well as our second stay in Castine. The home is clean, welcoming, and the perfect location to soak in the beauty of the surrounding area. The views off the deck are stunning, it’s within walking distance to downtown Castine and other points of interest in the area, and is helpfully situated for a quick drive out of town to explore Downeast Maine. We hope to return again and again!

Castine Cottage

Overall very good stay. You just can’t beat the view and the access to the water right out the front door. Everything was very clean and organized. The front deck was great to use at night and during the day. My only critique would be that the bed could be a bit more comfortable but overall everything was as expected for a cottage on the shore. My family and I had a great time.

Good location, convenient to Castine center

This is our 4th time staying at this cottage. I am a kayaker so I like the convenience of having a beach across the street to store my kayak and the location close to Castine harbor. The view from the cottage is amazing. Negatives would be access to the cottage is via steep stairs accessed from a damp basement.

Peaceful Oasis

We've stayed here several times and will come back for as many years as it's available. It's our favorite spot in Maine. The house is very clean and has everything you need. Janet is very easy to communicate with. The view of the bay is unbeatable. The town of Castine is the most lovely on the coast and the residents will treat you like a neighbor. I'm always sad to leave this place.
