About this property
An Oasis In The Land Of Enchantment
Located in the valley below historic Taos, NM, the "distillery" is set under very mature trees, surrounded by extensive gardens while still overlooking the sacred Taos mountain. The original house was built during prohibition and brewed bootleg liquor for the speakeasy in town. We use the house now as a platform for the distillation and exchange of ideas. Our home offers a quiet retreat in an area rich with history and arts. There is something very calming about staying in a house made of the earth. Adobe is a traditional style of architecture which suits the land here. We have added a new kitchen and master suite to the old house, maintaining the charm of houses from this area. There are grand spaces as well as cozy spaces. Warm fireplaces for winter and cool refuges for summer. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a library, office and drawing room as well as patios for al fresco dining. The extensive vegetable garden and water feature offer lovely outdoor settings in warm weather. We have a roof top deck which offers spectacular views and the opportunity to sleep out under the stars.

Amazing home with plenty of room for our friends and family to spread out. The artwork was stunning as well as the outdoor spaces. Great location to sightsee at several places. We would definitely stay here again!
It's a living library and art gallery that embrace you with a sense of history, literature and Taos art, much of which was created by the owner's family. With a large yard in town, it is a quiet refuge. It is not new and shiny, but very comfortable and rapidly becomes home. The great-room and kitchen are fantastic.

Large Unique Home Conveniently Located
House was large and slept everyone comfortably. There is a bunch of great art and reading materials. We thoroughly enjoyed the rooftop fire pit and large kitchen.
The house and property are delight, full of wonderful artwork, literature, period furniture and numerous spaces to either gather or to find time alone in one of many niches. After eight weeks, I was still discovering another piece of art to appreciate. The four bedrooms, and several bathrooms provide ample space for guests or family. The kitchen/great room is large and open with a terrific stovetop and setup for anyone who likes to cook. The large walled-in yard provides privacy and a peaceful setting with shade trees, a real plus in the summer. The location is another plus, just a twelve-minute walk to the center of town and minutes to grocery stores and other services. Do know that this lovely house is a Taos experience, not a chrome city hotel. If you want a Holiday Inn, go elsewhere. If you want Taos, this is it. We were there for nine weeks, and it became home. We loved it.
On our next visit, we will plan to spend more time. This is truly a home away from home. It is beautifully furnished and has many comfortable spaces (indoors and out). The kitchen demands use!
If you are able to stay at the distillery i highly recommend it. It really helped make our stay in Taos special.

Great stay!
Lots of space for your family to spread out. We went in the winter and the house was warm and comfortable. Lots of hot water. The rooftop deck has a great view. The gas and wood fireplaces were enjoyable. Great location near downtown.

Gorgeous and unique home
Four of us girls had a girls weekend in Taos and stayed here. The home is incredibly unique, beautiful, filled with books and art and multiple areas to sit and relax. Great location, well-stocked, and comfortable and clean. Our only feedback was around the comfort of the beds and the second bathroom - we wished the beds were more comfortable and that the second bathroom had a shower, or at least a shower head that was installed to stand on its own. Four of us had to share the one master bath shower as we didn't want to take baths. Additionally a functioning hair dryer is essential! Otherwise, the home is beautiful, artistic, with a great kitchen and dining area with plenty of spaces to relax.

Beautiful, well-appointed house
This beautiful artist's home has every comfort a family could ask for: fully equipped kitchen, large fireplace, comfortable beds, books galore and board games for cozy evenings in front of the fire. Within walking distance to downtown Taos, and yet the house is very private and quiet. A close drive to the ski slopes, the old Taos Pueblo, and the Royal Gorge. It was a memorable New Year's stay for this family, and we could easily imagine returning for a visit during the summer months as well.

Large home that made for a great launching pad for our adventures
My family of 5 stayed over the New Years break and had a great time. The house is large and beautiful and there was plenty of room for us to relax and enjoy our stay. We all danced and watched an amazing sunset of the roof patio for New Years Eve.
Thank you!

Great setup for outdoor entertaining. A unique indoor experience.
Postives: Many outdoor entertaining options. The indoor is spacious with many rooms. Great kitchen! Pantry well stocked. Not far from taos ski valley - around 30 min. Grocery store close - 5 min.
Negatives: All these negatives are easily corrected. Also the context of the stay is important. It was myself, my wife, and my kids 12,14,16. So unfortunately we did not make use of the outdoor space as we mainly stayed inside at night and out and about during the day. The first issue is the house was dusty and I believe it could have been clean much better given the price point. Second the place had a lot of decorations and art work - actually was cool to walk around and view it all...however i had some kids who have active imaginations and probably watch too many scary movies/trailers. They would not sleep in some of the rooms due to "scary" dolls and art. Rooms also dimmly lit which boosted the spookiness. There is an attached home on the property with a person that lives there. I am a light sleeper and they came at around 2 am and did something and left. The wifi did not work very well...probably old router not used to so many devices at once. One can see the above being easily adjusted and I could see myself giving 5 star.

A 10 minute walk from the historic Taos plaza, we are conveniently located while maintaining the feel of a quiet retreat. The area is historically significant: The Taos Pueblo is a UNESCO site as the oldest continually inhabited structure in the country, and continues to engage the community with traditional dances and events. Before becoming a part of the United States, the area was settled by the Spanish and hosted a number of outlaws. In the early 20th century, Georgia O'Keefe and DH Lawrence helped to establish the area with the Taos Moderns as an art destination. The community continues to thrive with all of these historical influences. Taos Mountain is renowned for outdoor enthusiasts and offers top notch skiing in the winter while the Rio Grande is well known in river running circles. Numerous trails offer outdoor opportunities in all seasons.
