Christine's Shepherds Hut

Looking for the ideal romantic getaway with the bonus of cream tea or breakfast with a bottle of fizz? Look no further and with prices held at 2022 levels our cosy Shepherd’s Hut will fit the bill.
We can provide the perfect solution to those looking for a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of busy lives. This is an opportunity to really relax and unwind in lovely, peaceful surroundings. With beautiful views in the day, amazing evening sunsets and starry, starry night skies (weather permitting!)
The Shepherd’s Hut is situated in its own enclosed paddock, adjacent to our home, Bridge End. It is ideal for couples requiring a short break in the West Country. Located in the beautiful countryside of north-west Devon, our nearest town is Holsworthy, 2 miles (5 mins) away, with its branch of Waitrose and renowned Wednesday farmer’s markets.
The hut is fully equipped for easy self-catering and has everything you might need for your stay. The kitchen and en-suite shower room are fully plumbed, with hot and cold running water. An electric heater and towel rail ensures you will be toasty warm, whatever the weather. A comfortable double bed folds up to provide a table and two padded bench seats for dining and relaxing. All bed linen and towels are included.
The private area outside the hut is furnished with a café table and chairs for al fresco eating and a fire pit to toast marshmallows and keep you warm.
We’ll supply you with a small “welcome pack” to start your break (either breakfast or a cream tea). If you are celebrating a special event – birthday, anniversary or perhaps an engagement – we can arrange for a bottle of “fizz”, chocolates or flowers to greet you on your arrival.
The holiday town of Bude with its famous surfing beaches is easily accessible (approx. 20 mins by car). Other local attractions include the lovely north-west coastline with sandy beaches and beautiful cliff walks. With the Ruby Way and Tamar Lakes close by; the area is also ideal for walking, cycling, fishing and horse riding. Alternatively, the award-winning gardens of RHS Rosemoor and various National Trust properties, such as Lanhydrock will give you a day out to remember. An amazing place to stay

We loved every minute of our stay in the Shepherd’s Hut. It was equipped with everything needed and we loved the little clever ways of storage and switches as well as the high spec of the kitchen appliances and the excellent level of cleanliness. Christine and David were wonderful hosts and even gave us some lovely scones and a card upon arrival. It was a pleasure to chat to them and we already miss the Hut.

A lovely shepherd's hut in a lovely location!

We had a really wonderful stay with Christine and David - the shepherds hut is very comfortable and finished to a really high standard. We had everything we needed and then more on top. Christine and David were great hosts with lots of excellent reccomendations which really helped us explore the area. We would definitely visit again!

Everything was immaculately clean with every thing you require for a few days break. Christine and David very friendly and helpful. Break only spoilt by the unpredictable weather, but we managed to get out and about without getting too wet

We arrived a little cold had to put heating on the door didn't shut property there was a draft

It's ok for summer not enough storage if you bring food no wear to put it because it was going into lockdown we packed up and went the owner said we could come back but I got a cheque for 75.00 we're it it cost 189.50 we should of got it all back and also I was waiting for results from hospital as now I've been diagnosed with breast cancer

This is the 41st review we have had on Home Away and first to have negative feedback. We pride ourselves in taking great care in following the government guidance and the protocols of the Professional Association of Self-Catering Properties on Covid 19 standards. Because of this extra work our check-in time through the summer has been 4pm. With the clocks going back we changed this to 2pm. This guest arrived unannounced at 1pm. Fortunately we were ahead of schedule and able to allow them access. At 8pm they came to the house say they were leaving because the Prime Minister had announced a national 'Lock Down', starting on the day after they were due to leave us. The following morning following the anti Covid protocols we went to check the hut to find crockery and cutlery left unwashed on the work surfaces and heating still on. On the following day the gust informed us that they had left items of clothing at the hut. These we returned to the owner by recorded delivery at our expense. All agencies, including, Home Away have policies on cancellations. All payments are forfeit if cancelled at short notice or the client vacates early. As a gesture of goodwill on our part we refunded this guest 50% of our income from their booking.

An Autumn break

We had an email a few days before we left, with clear instructions on how to find the place + things to do in the area. They greeted us as we arrived and were very helpful and friendly during our stay. The shepherd's hut was beyond our expectations for facilities, equipment and cosiness. This was our first trip to Devon/Cornwall, but will definitely be returning to see David and Christine.

Perfect...

We were greeted by the most welcoming of hosts, full of ideas of where to go and what to see... nothing was too much trouble. The Hut was incredible a little home from home, so cosy, we didn't want to leave it, outside space to enjoy the sun or bbq, just calm and peaceful.

Amazing Experience

The location of the hut is ideal to discover the gems of north Devon. The hosts, David and Christine have thought about everything to allow you enjoy the delights of the hut. Even down to matches to light the fire pit which we used every night. Only down side was we only booked 4 nights had we known what we were going to, we would have booked longer. Already recommending to our friends and family.

Beautiful place.

A brilliant spot for a relaxing weekend away

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Christine's Shepherds Hut. It was simply perfect and was made even more lovely with the great hospitality of Christine and David. The breakfast they kindly provided was delicious and was very much appreciated. The hut was immaculate and decorated to a very high standard. It had everything we needed! I would definitely recommend staying here to family and friends!

Love Devon, loved the Shepherds Hut just as much! Great experience - given us the inspiration to get one of our own! We were impressed with the design and ease of use of the facilities- special thanks for all the helpful little extras like cutlery/ utensils / shampoo / conditioner etc! Nice hut

We liked the stay at Shephards hut, with the beachhut. Everything is very clean en it is nice to see that all things are related to the beach. The scones with the strawberries were delicious! We recommend this place.

Christine and David retired in 2015 and moved to Devon to be closer to family and our new Grandchildren. We married in 1998 and lived in Northamptonshire before finding our forever home at Bridge End. Between us we spent large parts of working lives in the Pharma industry and NHS.
