L'Ancienne Distillerie – Gîte Otard
In the heart of the prestigious Grande Champagne vineyards, this former distillery building has been transformed into a charming 1-bedroom gîte – the perfect countryside retreat for a couple.
Located just 10 minutes from Cognac, it’s a peaceful and authentic base to discover the Charente together.
A historic estate
L’Ancienne Distillerie is made up of 4 gîtes, once the buildings of a traditional Cognac distillery. Each one is independent and not overlooked, offering the perfect balance of privacy and conviviality.
Direct pool access
Gîte Otard is located within the secure swimming pool courtyard and has direct access to this space. For this reason, it is not suitable for children.
Comfort and authenticity
Inside, you’ll enjoy an open-plan living space with lounge, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The gîte features 1 spacious double bedroom with a Super King size bed (180 cm) and a private ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet.
French doors open onto your private terrace (and the garden beyond) with barbecue and garden furniture – perfect for sunny breakfasts, long lunches or romantic evening meals!
Leisure and relaxation
During your stay, relax by the secure 13m x 6m pool, stroll through the landscaped gardens or enjoy the games room with table tennis, table football and a pool table. Couples can also explore the surrounding vineyards, visit Cognac houses and enjoy walks or bike rides through the Charentaise countryside.

Lovely welcome and beautiful property
We recently stayed at L'Ancienne-Distillerie-Otard during a house hunting trip in the area. The welcome was warm and friendly and the accommodation very spacious and comfortable. The location is tranquil and restful. The attention to detail in the tourist information was the best we have ever come across on our many trips over. We would have no hesitation in returning or recommending this haven to friends and family.

Having moved to France in 2021 to spend more time together as a family, we are a couple in our late forties with 2 teenage children and a passion for exploring the world. We love meeting people, eating good food, sunshine, exploring the outdoors, walking, hiking and cycling and discovering beautiful new places on our gorgeous planet. Life motto - Life is too short to be unhappy!
Why they chose this property
We chose this property as we felt it perfectly match what we were looking to do; not too big that it was impersonal not too small that we would not be able to give our guests the space they needed. We felt that it was important for guests to decide what sort of holiday they wanted; peace, quiet and tranquillity or if they preferred to be able to join together with other guests to share events, games, BBQs and experiences. So we have created a mix of private areas and public areas around the site so people can escape or join in as they please. The property is also perfectly located for visits to Cognac town and visits to the local cognac producers, the coast and easily accessible from the Uk and Europe.
What makes this property unique
When I think about France I dream of blue shutters and grape vines. Here the vines cover the gentle rolling hills and lead down into the picturesque river valley. We have the dream and we are happy to share it with you.
