Lovely year round house on the shores of Lake Oscawana in Putnam County, just 1h 15m from NYC, and very close to Fahnestock State Park for stunning hikes. The views and tranquility are wonderful, and the house is very cosy.
3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sauna, dock, lake front, 3 walls of windows, fully stocked kitchen (everything you could want pots and utensils-wise, plus spices and everything), big deck, and use of 2 paddleboards, 1 kayak, 1 canoe. It is a sunny delight, very quiet and beautiful.
Entering from street level, the dining room, living room, kitchen and deck are all accessible with no stairs. There is one King bedroom with en suite bathroom and one Queen with another bathroom upstairs; downstairs there is a family room with two Twins (or two Trundles), and a study with en suite bathroom. Two bathrooms have bath tubs (one is a claw foot tub) and showers, and two have just showers.

Quiet lake-front retreat
Everyone enjoyed their stay. The property has lovely views of the lake and is a well-maintained and comfortable retreat. The interiors are warm and welcoming and Gaby is a lovely host.
Beautiful location right on a lake. A bit of a drive on windy back roads to most attractions, but the house made it totally worth it. Lots of extras, like sauna, fire pit, water toys…gabby was a wonderful host.

This was our family's second trip to this lovely property. It is an ideal location for spending time together inside, outside and on the water. The deck off the kitchen at this house is one of my favorite places to be in the world!

Thanks, Tony! So glad you had a good trip. Thanks for all the tips and feedback. Best for the rest of the summer. Gaby
It is a lovely comfortable home on Lake Oscawana.
After three summers there we are beginning to think of it as 'our summer place' although, of course, it is Gaby's place, and she is a delight to deal with.
The house was right on the lake with a beautiful back yard and boat house. The house was well stocked with any kitchen utensil or basic supply you might need. Just about every room had a beautiful view of the lake. The surrounding area was very quiet and relaxing. Only a 1 hour drive from NYC. The owner was easy to work with and very accommodating.

We had a lovely stay at this lakeside property. There were minor issues that popped up, but Gaby was able to address them promptly. The kitchen is well stocked, the couch comfortable. We got the peaceful escape we were looking for and are happy with the getaway.

This is a lovely place to stay for a vacation. The house is gorgeous: beautifully decorated with lots of windows and space. The light-filled kitchen is stocked with literally everything you could possibly need. The deck with a wisteria trellis overlooking the lake is divine. The house is located on a quiet cove off the main lake, providing a really serene and peaceful place to relax and appreciate the symphony provided by the frogs and crickets. We hope to come again!

Best for the Fall. Gaby
Upon arriving at Gaby’s beautiful lakeside home we were overwhelmed by the views of Oscawana Lake. The accommodations were superb with cozy beds , spacious living quarters, well appointed kitchen and interesting decor and collection of books. Gaby was very attentive and accommodating to our needs . I would highly recommend this home to large families who enjoy the beauty of upstate NY while being only one hour from NYC Thanks Gaby !!
Gaby was very good with communication. We had a couple snags related to weather and she was helpful with solutions. The downstairs bedrooms run a little hot and stuffy as the AC is only upstairs, however, this should not be an issue at most times, we just happened to be there during a heat wave!

Eric, thank you so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure to have you stay there and love it so much. Best, Gaby
This was a perfect place for us. There were 10 of us and we had plenty of space. The trundle beds under the the 2 twins made for a great bunk room for our 4 boys. We ate many of our meals on the beautiful back porch. We hiked on the AT, took the train into NYC several days, and went to a football game at West Point. Gabby was a great host and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend this peaceful, relaxing home.
We stayed here for my nephew’s West Point graduation weekend. House is very cute, had plenty of beds for 8 to sleep comfortably. It does have a few quirks.. there are 4 bathrooms which is amazing, had a little issue with water pressure and drainage but it got straightened out. I would advise not all showering same time but to break it up some in evening and some in morning. Everything else was wonderful! Plenty of seating, plenty of towels, kitchen ware, etc. would rent again! Amazing views!!!! Clean and cute accommodations.
It is a beautiful house located near a small lake with a nice outdoor area. It is comfortable with all the amenities you need. We had a relaxing trip and would definitely return.

We had a great time at Gaby's house. She was very responsive and gave good advice about the area. The bedrooms are large, as is the living area, with great views of the lake. Wifi was strong, and the neighborhood is about 15 minutes from shopping. Great variety of books and games too. The 5 of us enjoyed our stay.

About the host

I'm a Brit who moved to the States in 1999 and never left, although I spend a fair amount of time in Europe still. I work in the media industry.
Why they chose this property
I've been coming to Lake Oscawana with friends for years, and was looking for a house up here for at least 5 years. They don't come up too often, so when I heard that Cayuga Road was for sale, I dropped everything and ran up to see it before it went on the market. I fell in love with it, and put in an offer immediately after seeing it.
The house has an incredibly good vibe, so says everyone who comes to stay. It is just a lovely, happy house. Apparently Babe Ruth used to get his hair cut in the front bedroom of the house, which in the 1920s was the barber's place.
What makes this property unique
The views are stunning: it looks across the water to a nature reserve. It's a lovely community, and Cold Spring, which is charming, is a mere 16 minutes away. Amazing hiking, access to the Hudson River, and fun on the lake: what's not to love? Oh, and the claw foot tub in the stone bathroom? That's my favourite room in the house! ;-)
