About this property

A sudeley castle cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Named after Princess Elizabeth, who visited the castle on several occasions and who would later in her life become the infamous Queen Elizabeth I of England, this lovely cottage was originally part of a paper mill, which was restored to make two cottages (Lady Jane Grey and Princess Elizabeth) and two apartments (St Kenelm and Oliver Cromwell), preserving the original exposed walls and beams throughout. (St Kenelm sits directly above Princess Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell sits directly above Lady Jane Grey.)

The accommodation is arranged over two floors. Guests enter from a covered porch into a small hallway, with handy coat hooks, and pass-through to an open-plan and very well-equipped kitchen with under stairs storage (baby and cleaning equipment). The kitchen windows look out onto the private courtyard.
Off the kitchen, and down three stairs, is the dining area with a large oak table, comfortably seating 4 guests. At the end of this large open-plan space is the living area, which leads out to the private courtyard.
Upstairs there is one double bedroom a king-size bed and one spacious twin bedroom, as well as a family bathroom with a full-size bath and over-bath shower.

Ground Floor

Kitchen:
The kitchen at Princess Elizabeth is very well equipped, with plenty of storage space in the distinctive, off-white cabinets with wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, crockery, and glassware you need for a self-catering holiday, including a Neff cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, washing machine/dryer, and Nespresso coffee machine. A welcome pack of teabags, Nespresso coffee pods, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, jam/honey mini pots, boiled sweets are provided for your first day at the Cottage. (See ‘Facilities' above for further details.)

Living/Dining Area:
Step down from the kitchen area to the dining/living area which is dominated by the paper mill's original stone wall. The dining area has a large circular oak table, seating 4, while the other end features a large, sink-in sofa + 2 armchairs, a flat-screen TV and DVD player, and oak coffee table. Double doors lead out to the courtyard with a table and seating, the perfect place to relax in the evening sun after a day exploring the Cotswolds.

First Floor:

Bedroom One:
This pretty bedroom features a king-size double bed with an oak bedstead and headboard. Facing the river at the rear of the property, with a large sash window, this bedroom is light and bright with plenty of storage space in an ornately carved hanging cupboard and bedside cabinets with reading lamps, and a lovely dressing table with a large fixed mirror.

Bedroom Two:
A spacious twin room, with the beds arranged to provide some privacy between guests. This front-facing bedroom features original oak beams, a decorative original fireplace, and the mill's exposed stone walls. Guests share a dressing table with a fixed mirror, while each bed has its own bedside table and dimmable reading lamp.

Family Bathroom:
The pretty bathroom with Shaker-style panelling and the exposed stone wall has a full-size bath with an over-bath shower, a large sink with a mirror and shaver point, a dual flush toilet, and a heated towel rail. Handy hooks on the door are provided for your clothes or robe. Complimentary toiletries are provided including hand soap, shower gel, handwash, vanity kit, shower cap, and toilet paper.

Outside
Guests have access to Princes Elizabeth's private, gravelled courtyard with a table and seating for four.

Lovely cottages

This is the second time we have stayed at the Cottages, and we love them! The location within the village and on the grounds of the Castle make it a memorable stay.

We enjoyed our stay at Princess Elizabeth

We had a nice time there, with everything needed on-site. Cleanliness rated poorly because we found hair (not ours) in almost every room. The kids would play and come back with other people's hair on their clothes. Even in the kitchen we would find other people's hair. Also, the bathroom & sofa needs some refreshing. Would also be nice to have some unbreakable dinnerware for smaller kids. The outdoors dinner table was great for dinner, we really enjoyed the little time we used it.

Week stay in September 2025

Lovely cottage in a great location. Nice welcome pack on arrival. Comfy beds, good shower and large parking area, couple of mins walk to pubs, cafes and restaurants. Recommended and would definitely stay again if holidaying in The Cotswolds.

Great Cotswold location

The cottage exceeded expectations. Super modern kitchen and appliances gave us the atmosphere of an ancient property with the comfort of a modern building. Furniture and beds also comfortable. Location was great with nice walks on the Castle grounds. Highly recommended.

Excellent stay at Princess Elizabeth Cottage

We enjoyed our stay and look forward on coming back. The cottage had all the amenities as a home with a full kitchen and living room. We also enjoyed the convenient location to the center of town.

Perfect days

We stayed because we were going to a wedding at Sudeley Castle. Location was perfect, a few minutes drive away. The cottage had everything we needed and was a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.

Myself and my daughter both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You have thought of everything !! The cottage was so lovely and clean everywhere. We spent a whole day in the castle - fascinating history. Learn a lot ! Best fish and chips ever from the village pub.

Free entry to Sudeley castle is a nice bonus. Assistance with issues (they were only small ones) were dealt with promptly. Good proximity to village and supermarkets

Enjoyed our 5 night stay.

We had a wonderful time at the Princess Elizabeth Cottage. The setting is second to none. Beautiful scenery and only a 10 minute walk to the castle. The only negatives no dishwasher tablets, and the frying pan was not compatible with the induction stove top.

Princess Elizabeth Cottage

We had booked two adjoining cottages for our daughter's wedding. The location is perfect if you need to be close to Sudeley Castle. However. On arrival I had no hot water and had to ask another cottage to use the shower. The windows didn't stay open and could be dangerous if children were staying. The windows needed to be propped to stop the Sash falling down. Sadly a few neighbours (quite scruffy looking) father by the garden wall smoking and walking around near by. The owner have a small refund to reflect the lack of hot water.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Princess Elizabeth Cottage. We’ve spoken with the property manager regarding your feedback. They advised that the hot water issue was resolved the morning after your arrival, as soon as it was reported. They’ve also arranged for their maintenance team to look into the window you mentioned. This hasn’t been raised before at any of the cottages, so they’re grateful you brought it to their attention. The windows, shower head and hose are also being reviewed and will be replaced if needed. We’re sorry to hear about the individuals sitting on the bench and hanging around the cottages. As these activities took place outside of the cottage, we’re unfortunately unable to manage this directly, but we do appreciate you letting us know. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you enjoyed the wedding.

Convenient Cottage but in need of attention

Arrival time was 4pm, at this time of year it was dark, location of key box was in the shadows, no light to see or instructions on how to access key, only code sent to us, had to ring Sudeley Estate Office, staff came quickly and opened box. Would be useful to have information on this in email sent with your key code prior to arrival. On entering cottage found it very cold, no heating on, located boiler which showed low water pressure, again had to ring Sudeley Estate Office, same staff member came and sorted the problem. There had been fresh milk and tea and coffee left for our arrival so obviously someone had been in the cottage so can’t understand why the heating hadn’t been checked. The overall condition of the cottage was good but bathroom needed attention, dirty sealant around shower screen. Shower was quite dangerous and left itself open to being scalding - only 2 - 3 millimetres separated VERY HOT to VERY COLD water (the safety button on the temperature valve was stuck in) Location of cottage was very good for the Christmas Light Trail at the castle and for the village.

We're very sorry that the cottage was cold on your arrival and that the water pressure was low, though we’re glad to hear these issues were resolved quickly. They will be speaking with their housekeeping team and have asked the maintenance team to check the shower as soon as possible. We hope to welcome you back to the Cotswolds again soon.

6/10 Okay

Princess Elizabeth cottage

The cottage was large enough. the people before us, checked out late, so the cleaning staff were rushing to get it cleaned up for our check in. the floors were not very clean and it looked like something had been splased on one of the kitchen walls. The furniture in the living room, very tired and worn out, not comfortable. One of the dining chairs was all torn. We were disappointed in the cottage`s condition. I stayed at the Gate house five years ago and loved it.

Great location, but cottage in serious need of maintenance

Princess Elizabeth cottage is in great location near Sudeley Castle, and walking distance to Winchcombe. The location of the cottage is undoubtedly the main positive aspect, as well as the large and well equipped kitchen. The rest of the cottage is unfortunately run down and in serious need of maintenance. The couches are worn out, the brown carpet is also worn out and stained, most windows have black mold on them, one of the beds had missing slats, various things in the bathroom are not working, and generally it needs a much more thorough clean. Overall, this is disappointing and not good value for money.

See below

An excellant cottage with easy parking. The hot tap in the bathroom basin needs urgent attention as the whole tap is loose and could cause a leak. There is a hook missing from the curtain in the rear bedroom. It would be helpful - especially with olde tenants like us 80+ year olds - if there were handholds on the short steps when carrying food for the table from the kitchen. Nothing too intrusive - maybe rope type handholds or some thing similar. We enjoyed our stay and recommended the cottages to friends who also came for Prescott.

Wonderful stay

Everything was wonderful . The only issue was the lantern outside that went on and off every 10 seconds and would shine right in bedroom window at night .

A very nice and idyllic place.

You found every thing you needed in the house. Close to the town center , access to lovely food paths right beside the place, A fine gesture with free tickets to the castle. Can definitely recommend the place/house.
