About this property

An outstanding 2 bedroom cottage on the golf course.

This seaside home located in Sandwich Bay, has one of the most privileged positions in the area, tucked away within the private estate which is accessed via its own toll gate. It backs onto the famous Championship Golf course of Royal St George's so perfect for golfers. A short distance away along a private road are Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club and Princes Golf Club.

Sandwich Bay itself boasts 5 miles of private and sandy beach. The beach is one of the best for shrimping in the UK! The picturesque Tudor town of Sandwich is 2 miles away and has a rich cultural heritage as one of the Cinque Ports. It has lots to see and do including an independent cinema, delicatessan and grocers, and many events in the town centre throughout the year. Kent's calmer coastal and inland waters are ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Aficionados paddle the three spectacular routes that set out from both Sandgate and Sandwich Bay, or make for St Margaret's to glide below Kent's remarkable White Cliffs.

This would be an ideal golfing holiday or indeed for a family seaside break. The cottage offers short breaks all year

4/10 Poor

A very disappointing holiday. Only stayed 3 night out of 7.
We were not aware of the access requirements prior to arriving (estate security etc), would have helped if in instructions. The Seating was old, worn and uncomfortable. The kitchen blind was dirty and a bedroom blind damaged. The TV signal was poor. The WIFI stopped working on the second day. A lot of traffic noise / speed on the Sunday from beach goers and golfers. Dogs barking continuously for 45 minutes on the Sunday. A gardener turned up at the main house on the Monday and was using two stroke petrol tools from 08.30 to 15.00. The gardener was having discussion with a third party in the Stable cottage garden, and transporting waste from the main house to the composting area next to stable cottage throughout the day, we had to keep the blinds closed because of the intrusion to our privacy. A poor choice by me, should have read previous reviews about the furnishing and gardener intrusion. The fact that previous reviews had been ignored suggested there was no point in complaining. Left after 2 days, very disappointing as the break was to celebrate 40 years of marriage and 60th birthdays. A couple of nice walks along the beach. Would never plan another break here.

Lovely quiet beach break
A fantastic location for accessing a lovely part of Kent. Clean comfortable cottage ideal for 4 guests with a real feeling of privacy and seclusion set in a beautiful garden with rear views to a meadow .

Lovely location but improvements needed
Loved the stay at Stable Cottage, location was ideal nice and quiet (apart from when Gardener was about at 8am in the morning with his noisy machinery). Big garden. Shops are either 5 min drive into Sandwich or Deal but the road is down country lanes and very narrow. Ideal location for visiting south Kent . There were old leaflets in the drawers advising of local attractions but they seem to date from 2014 upwards - there was no folder which normally advise of nearest places like vets, doctors etc normally establishments have this info. WIFI was good The cottage was clean and beds were comfy. Large rooms Showers are very powerful and had some snacks and tea/coffee/milk. Negatives as mentioned in lots of previous reviews the furniture needs updating their was a sofa which was not comfortable (seen better days) and didnt feel it had be cleaned for ages. There was dirty looking cushions which the cushion covers had never been washed, an armchair again sat in it and you sunk in it and a little chair whether for a small child couldnt see point. and some wooden chairs dotted around. Sorry I am not a snob far from it but this furniture is fit for the skip. After a long day we all needed something comfortable to sit on. On last day we were advised to strip the beds and we did but in error we took the mattress topper off (they advise you to leave this on) and when we did 2 of the mattresses had " heavy stains on them like someone had an accident in the night" As said I can see others have reviewed and mentioned the furniture situation and seems mentions of Keepers replacing the furniture - if they have done recently goodness knows what previous furniture was like. Overall we enjoyed the stay, could have done with a few more touches. Would I recommend this property to others is question below ? Yes but would advise them furniture. Would we go back undecided. We have stayed in many properties it wasnt the worse it wasnt the best.

Couple of changes needed
Came to stable cottage couldn’t find it either put name on front gate or say house name next to so easier to find and save a phone call and going up and down the road several times. Dog friendly garden and was lovely but 1 of our dogs is not dog friendly and the carer for the main house had her dog running around the garden and shared driveway was fine when we told her but could have been a bad outcome had my dog been out. Booked for a total chill out but 8.30 3 days a week the Gardner is walking around garden gardening and started strimming all the hedges , understand jobs need doing but again had it been a nice day and we were sitting in garden wouldn’t want him walking all around the garden back and forth to compost pile and he was there all day also an issue with ants all over the back door mat, not a problem but maybe some ant powder under the sink may have helped us get rid of the problem. The house rules were to put items in dishwasher and leave when we left but no dishwasher so we washed up and put away again not an issue but shouldn’t put rules in there are generic and dont apply to individual properties had a nice break but always on tender hook watching dogs all the time as 1 dog doesn’t like dogs and other dog wary of strangers so with carers dog and gardener being in couldn’t relax and leave dogs outside as making sure main gates to road closed all the time and nobody around

Lovely setting but needs TLC
The setting is lovely in a very quiet spacious garden, perfect for dogs, on a private estate. Inside the cottage there are very spacious rooms and comfy beds. Fairly well equipped but would benefit from glasses and china having an update, but no dishwasher. However it needs some serious TLC. The furniture is a mishmash of 50s-60s items that really need replacing. We did have discover a few problems whilst staying and found the gardener was very friendly and helpful, and Keepers have hopefully been able to rectify most of the list we gave them. Plus the owner has apparently said she will update furniture ( but I found a similar comment 4 years ago, so fingers crossed this time!)
