About this property

Bear's Cottage, Wood Norton, Norfolk

Bears Cottage in Wood Norton offers a unique, off-grid escape from the everyday with total tranquillity. Set amongst 200 acres of woodland down a one mile driveway, this special location is the perfect setting for the whole family.

This luxury detached self-catering cottage offers pure escapism, yet is just a short drive to the beautiful Norfolk coast and many pretty villages and towns.

The established woodland which surrounds Bear's Cottage contains many famous specimen trees, planted in the 1850's and the woods harbour an abundance of flora and fauna, with over ten miles of private paths and tracks to cycle, ride in or explore, allowing you to completely get back to nature.

Restored in 2016, the cottage has lost none of its individuality and charm and the old stables have been converted into what is now a large kitchen and open-plan living space. The house now offers all the modern conveniences and luxuries you could wish for, with a large kitchen, dining, living area with vaulted ceiling and beams, wooden floorboards and bi-fold doors opening up onto the lawned garden and woodland beyond. At the front of the house there is a cosy snug with wood burning stove, where you can relax on an evening, plus a practical downstairs shower room and a separate utility room. Downstairs you'll also find a twin bedroom and en-suite bathroom, perfect if some members of your party want a little more privacy.

There's a twin bedroom downstairs with en-suite bathroom. Upstairs you'll find three further bedrooms, two of which have king-size beds and wash basins and a children's twin bedroom plus a spacious family bathroom with feature freestanding claw-footed bath.

Outside there's also a separate games room barn with table tennis. Bring your bikes, bring your dogs, bring your binoculars and come with a deep desire to discover more about nature and a strong willingness to let go, unwind and enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

Amazing

A lovely place to stay and unwind in the middle of a 200 acre forest, No crowds of people just birds and nature around us it was heavenly. Just one thing spoilt the peaceful setting were very loud bangs from gunshots going off daily that ruined the tranquility of peace and quiet. Kindest Regards Tom Watson.

Dear Thomas, Thank you for your feedback following your stay at Bear's Cottage, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Norfolk. Sorry to hear that you were disturbed by the gun shots, during certain seasons of the year this can be more noticeable within the rural areas, however we do have many more properties that may be more suitable and would love to welcome you back to Norfolk again very soon Thomas. Best Wishes Norfolk Hideaways

6/10 Okay

Peace and quiet, but totally no frills

Enchanting setting -we loved venturing through the woodland to find such an unusual property and the peace and solitude was just what we were looking for. Sadly, being absolutely surrounded by acres of tall trees meant very little/no breeze so interior, especially bedrooms, were very musty and soft furnishings smelled damp. Standards of cleanliness were not what we had hoped for the price; housekeeping had not provided sufficient towels for every guest, and those they brought next day were laundered poorly. Also, someone else's (used) underwear was found in one of the dressing tables! The dogs' welcome basket was a lovely touch, but sadly the towels left for the dogs had not been laundered, so we used our own. In the end, the wasps, gnats, flies and ticks won and we left for home early. It was an adventure though, so we're glad we tried it, if only to rule out a return visit. Would recommend to more hardy individuals who were looking for a step away from camping/yurt holidays. Take lots of insect repellent, and maybe your own towels.
